They've always been there this year I think

This has now gone much further than the tri-state tornado did (250 miles roughly including occasional lift-ups) there was rapid circulation and the radar was incredible. Interested to see the rating it's given from the damage survey reports (assuming they haven't done it yet)

Aren’t Tornadoes unusual during December months I Always thought spring and summer months .

There can be a few strong tornadoes in December, this however is likely to have broken plenty of records like longest track tornado ever (longer than the tri state tornado, this went over 4 States) I've not been posting the daylight damage pics but have been watching the live news from kentucky all day and hundreds of tweets, very upsetting sights and amount of deaths Joplin was in my mind last night and the scenes so far are resembling closely especially in Mayfield, on the same track with equal or potentially more significant damage places like Bremen, Kingston Springs and a separate destructive tornado at Bowling Green.

Good to see you joining in now the damage has been done..with your expertise, you should be contributing to this thread all year, but just after a catastrophic event.

Horrific. Tornadoes have got to be the most terrifying event, especially when you don't have time to run, you just have to hide and hope.

Even more so during the Night time as your chances of seeing the Tornado or debris are hampered

Does this tornado beat the 'infamous' tri-state tornado for longest track? Since it seems it passed through 4 states?

They are already calling it the Quad State Tornado, preliminary thoughts are about 230-40 miles....which beats the Tristate.

Nothing smart to post but I'm heart-sorry for everyone who's lost family, friends or property.

Has to be a possibility it was one of the strongest tornadoes of all time I'm still confident of it being EF5

Looks to be even further looking today I guessed at around 250 miles when looking at the radar, will be interesting to see

Has there been any estimates of windspeeds?
