Wasn’t in yesterday but probably warmest of the year. 23c is what the car was saying.

Cloudier start as previous posts have covered however that strong sun has broken through. Currently 17.6c, should reach 24c today…

Will look back on May 2023 as a dark horse. Slagged off on the MOD thread (SE bias) and not so good in the East however over here despite no real heat it’s been deceptively good.

Just 25.4mm of rain (31% of average) and lots of sunshine.
The average max according to the met office is 15c for May here. We’ll have smashed that, I no longer keep records but would anticipate an anomaly of  +2/2.5c. Nights far closer to average though, consistently chilly.

June is going to start off in the same vein. It can stay warm but we really could do with some rain…

So much for the forecast cloud breaking by lunchtime! Still 100% low cloud cover with no signs of brightness even as far West as I can see. 12C

Yes the satellite images show the extent of the grey gloom over eastern and parts of central Scotland. Can’t see it shifting now from here. 12c here too. Last day of the month and sunshine totals will finish in the region of 60-65% of normal for eastern coastal areas. Dry but dull sums up May in these parts although as @SW Saltire points out others have fared better.

Unfortunately the start of June doesn’t look too great here either!

I went for a walk at lunchtime and could see the low cloud to the north and East of Glasgow. Nice and warm already 😎

As @dryfie said earlier, the cloud just evaporated about 11am.

Currently 23.7c and climbing. Wee bit of a breeze, perfect.

I actually went for a walk from Cellardyke to Crail this afternoon and just as we finished up the sun came out as we enjoyed an ice cream in Crail. For a change it did not come out North of the Tay. Still cloudy here at 14C.

It’s a nice stretch. I love having the coastal path on my doorstep. It seemed to clear south to north today rather than the usual west to east. I wonder how we will fare for the rest of the week….

From the looks of the local weather station it took until around 1pm for the cloud to clear from above Alford, but from looking out the windows of work it took another couple of hours longer than that to clear from Westhill. As a result the max temp of 15.7C in Alford was a good 3C below the max temp yesterday. Tomorrow looking on the cooler side again, before hopefully a warm up into the high teens again for the weekend?

Visited the beach last nice, was a cracking night and had it pretty much all to ourselves. Excellent visibility over to the lake district.

As others have said, a very cloudy start. The sun started breaking through about 30 minutes ago and the temp has shot up from 15c to just shy of 17c. To be the coolest day of the week

June starts as May finished over here with grey gloom. Spot of drizzle in the air and a cool 11c. Things look more hopeful for tomorrow fingers crossed we see the sun!

Yes, despite seeing several references to the cloud being thinner today, it has taken longer to dissipate.  However, well on the way now, and temp responding nicely.  Must make a visit to the Riviera (Kippford?) ourselves this week.

That is indeed the riviera (I do love the jubilee walk) however no, that photo is from Powfoot. Quite often walk the dog on the beach and then get dinner at the hotel (Depends how recently payday was!).

Mainly sunny now but that wind is quite keen. We briefly reached 21c but have fallen back, hopefully warmer tomorrow.

Loved this capture from the Dundee Satellite yesterday, so clear seeing the easterly feed definitely more akin to the convective winter setups

I mentioned in one of my posts in the mod thread it's quite intriguing how the Atmospheric state has been so retrogressive for ages, I wouldn't be shocked if there's still lagging effects from the strat warmings / final warming

Pretty confident there won't be any big shifts in the pattern evolving over the next 2 weeks until mid and particularly 2nd stage of June

An extra update 🤠

As the MJO is heading through phase 8 currently and El Ninò continuously unfolding, we really shouldn't be far away from official classification here IMO + taking the phase 8 w/Ninò through May into June delivers these composites

nino-8-mag-mid.png nino-8-giu-low.png

Similar with the +PNA once again the patterns through the next 2 weeks go hand in hand

wk1-wk2-20230530-z500.png

We don't have a consistent signal for the next progression into further MJO phases ATM though pretty high confidence there shouldn't be any significant changes to the above patterns until Mid and especially 2nd Half of June 🧙‍♂️

What you mean is it'll be largely dry, sunny and settled until the start of the school holidays, then it'll turn more unsettled and wet?

I could have told you that without looking at any 'patterns'. 😁

Another superb afternoon after low cloud and  drizzle cleared in late morning was 21c yesterday afternoon cooler this afternoon.

Much cooler this evening as it has stayed clear and now 6.5c Ground frost by early morning?Could contain: Field, Grassland, Nature, Outdoors, Grass, Sky, Horizon, Land, Savanna, Ground

Ground getting seriously dry now drought signs beginning to appear in grass and crops in this area particularly on sandy soils near coast. Extremely low humidities compounding the problem as well.

Palpable relief as the sun returns to NE Fife! 😀 Never going to be warm here with this set up but 13c and sunshine is acceptable. 😁

Another very acceptable week of weather overall, even though the harr/low cloud muck from the North Sea tried its best to spoil things (for example never cleared around here until after 5pm yesterday and the ground was actually wet to start with thanks to some overnight drizzle)...

Could contain: Field, Grass, Plant, Outdoors, Car, Transportation, Vehicle, Nature, Grassland

Evening though very nice, if a bit chilly (overnight low 2c and the bedding geraniums now have bronzed leaves as a result)...

Could contain: Nature, Outdoors, Sky, Field, Grassland, Pasture, Horizon, Grass, Ground, Scenery

Cracking day today though, fresh easterly wind taking the edge of the temperature but still a very pleasant 16c in the sun...

Could contain: Horizon, Nature, Outdoors, Sky, Landscape, Grass, Field, Scenery, Grassland, Land

No appreciable rain for a fortnight now but local burn still looking full enough...

Could contain: Ditch, Outdoors, Nature, Plant, Vegetation, Water, Creek, Stream, Grass, Land

It did feel like there was a notable lack of sunshine during spring. Usually that’s the time of year that the sun can be most relied upon here.
