A squall line looking feature(?) associated with a cold front passing through today, or more likely IMO just possibly wind shear ahead of the front which may account for the windy conditions @scrat mentioned.

Giving some notable falls of rain here though.  Glad for a day of staying indoors.

A few stats about the rainfall we are currently experiencing.

The SE have had measurable rainfall from 09/10/23 - 06/11/23 and counting - 29 days.

Going back to 2019 the longest period of measurable rainfall in the SE is 76 days (21/11/2019 - 04/02/202) and this was in the period of 21/09/2019 - 16/03/202 where there were only TWO dry days out of 176.

Would be interesting to go back further.....

It most certainly not here lol. Mind you that storm was named high rain totals rather than wind.

Absolutely horrendous journey to work today, torrential rain and it’s so dark. I’m shocked there isn’t a weather warning out. The roads are are full of water

Thanks for the heads up, Donna; I'm travelling through Rye in half an hour or so. I think it's the 4x4 not the sports car today...

It was a very bumpy final 30 minutes or so flying into Gatwick this afternoon through the storms over northern France and the Channel.

On our way out to Verona on Sunday, quite a lot of flooding was visible over southern counties. I took this pic from the plane, possibly around Hastings but I'm not sure. Is that flood water running off into the sea... or something else...?

Edit: bottom left corner creating a swirl towards the middle is the bit I'm asking about.

but looking closer, there seems to be an outlet of water at around 0700 on a clock that is darker than the sea, and spilling into the coastal waters.

That's the one! There's even a hint of the same at the top of the pic.

That is shoreham port where the river adur enters the channel. I think a lot of that is mud run off from the downs.
