COP27 (UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties) Discussion

So as COP27 is now mere days away, now is the time for a new discussion thread.

A lot has happened since COP26, new agreements, new targets, the promise of updated NDCs didn't happen for the majority of countries that pledged to do so. (Only around two dozen did out of the 200 ish countries)

The war currently ongoing between Russia and Ukraine has lead to countries leaning back to coal, more oil and gas while on the long run may "quicken" the process of going green.

In some glimmer of hopes, The IEA thinks that "Total demand for fossil fuels declines steadily from the mid-2020s" which is hopefully the start of a trend.

Solar/Wind power continues to grow at a moderate pace but no means it is quick enough at the moment.

Sadly, I do fear that progress will be limited while time is needed very precious.

If you are interested in reading a couple of papers which have been released a few days ago I will leave some links before.

This comes after Boris Johnson had made the decision to go after being invited, U turning from a few days ago saying he was focused on the economy and the mini budget which he was too busy to go to.

Without a secure baseload  we are literally throwing our energy needs to the wind , also why is it an annual event like Glastonbury albeit with an airport full of private jets

Oh dear, someone has their priorities mixed up: What do we need most -- a posh-people's train set or a nuclear power station?🤔

The £25bn nuclear project could be delayed or even axed as the government tries to cut spending.

Some forty of the 119 countries that pledged last year to slash emissions of the powerful greenhouse gas methane will unveil their plans to do so at the UN climate summit next week, according to a senior U.S. official.

The United States, Canada and Vietnam are among the countries that will put forward details, according to the official in U.S. President Joe Biden's administration, who asked not to be named.

The world’s top two largest methane emitters, China and India, are not signatories to the pledge, and other big emitters like Brazil are not expected to have plans in time for the talks.

If these countries are going to complain about so called L&D, then what account should be taken of “gains and benefits”(which outweigh the former)that might accrue to developing countries as a result of the impacts of climate change? Not all changes in weather and climate hazard as a result of human influence are detrimental to human welfare, and the principle of symmetry would demand that a full cost-benefit analysis lie at the heart of such a legal framework.

The European Union, UK and "Alliance of Small Island States" support India's "phase down" of all fossil fuels this to be included in the first draft, China/Saudi Arabia won't be too pleased with this so expect a middle ground on this.

Time is running out for the human species. It's such a shame there are those among us who will (like Monty Python's Black Knight) die while still insisting that nothing is wrong?🤔
