Hamburg hitting 42 inches but reports just coming in that a few places have just hit the 4ft mark...

Some of the pictures coming out of the area are just insane...

It's officially record breaking.

The highest lake effect snowfall ever. 

Previous record was back in 1994 according to CNBC.

And it's mid November!

How do they make these kind of measurements? 66 inches?  Do they have a great ruler in the ground?

Some great videos there the nearest we came to that here was in late November early December 2010 as seen in my avatar.  Had never seen walls of snow like it coming in off the Moray Firth stretching back to my childhood in the sixties.

To be fair, you’d expect it early in the season when water temps are at their highest.

A northwards shift in the snow streamer, so the areas that were getting pummeled are having a rest bite now. Amazing you could be a  mile either side of the streamer and get nothing and in between there could be 4ft of snow lying.

I would  imagine the surface temps have dropped dramatically as well as a lot of evaporation from the water..

The snow band today seems to be mainly north of Buffalo...I'd be absolutely spitting feathers

As much as i  would love a good whiteout, imagine this. Having to get the snow off your roof because you are worried about the weight of it.
