Thousands of members of the Scouting movement are packing and setting off to South Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree. There has been torrential rain, what is the SaeManGeum forecast?

Heavy rain and widespread flooding before the jamboree. Days of heatwave warnings during the camp.

Now tropical rains possible from the south. UK contingent are now in Seoul, no longer SW,  Jeollabukdo.

Sadly, the Jamboree has now been called off early due to the incoming typhoon and also an outbreak of Covid (Times). A sensible decision and my sympathies to all involved. Japan (1960s) typhoon, Sydney (1980s) cyclone and now S Korea, heat and typhoon, the Jamborees certainly seem to have been fated!

Just published an update. At least the UK Contingent are getting activities and experiences in Seoul. Not the full international Scouting dream that they planned but I'd imagine few of them would have spent summer 2023 in South Korea otherwise. Shame now for all the others onsite too. Ruddy weather.

"South Korea - as the World Scout Jamboree site watches incoming 'Khanun' and more participants leave, the weather has played a major part at #SaeManGeum WSJ with torrential rains, extreme heatwave and now Typhoon evacuations."

South Korea has experienced torrential monsoon rain and flooding before the World Scout Jamboree even started. Then extreme heatwave conditions, and next Khanun bringing tropical downpours.
