At Upminster, it was said that snow fell on 31 days during this year. 

January: 2nd, 3rd, 4th (4inches), 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th (3 inches), 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 22nd, 23rd (5 inches), 24th (3 inches), 29th

February: 14th-17th

March: 9th

April: 16th, 22nd, 27th

May: 3rd

Oct: 30th

Nov: 11th, 12th (3 inches), 14th, 29th

Dec: 1st (3 inches), 30th

 

Annual rainfall at Upminster was 24.5 inches

Gales reported at Upminster

Mar: 12th (SWly)

Apr: 15th (WNWly)

May: 21st (SWly)

Sep: 3rd (SWly), 30th (SSWly) said to be hot as well

At Townley in Lancashire it was reported that the annual rainfall was 38.0 inches but little fell during January, February, May and June

 

General comments

January

24th: Barometer at 2pm at Upminster was said to have been 28.28 inches (958mb) and at Townley it was 27.8 inches (941mb)

29th: thunder and lightning

 

February

14th:  Great snowstorm, drifts several yards deep

26th:   ice 4 inches thick, very cloudy with NE wind nearly all month

 

March

24th: thunderstorm, warm

11th: thunderstorm

22nd: snow fell all day

25th: thunderstorms with fierce hail

27th: thunder with hail

30th: cuckoo arrived, cold April

 

May

3rd: great deep snow all over England

8th: extraordinary great snow and frost 

15th: Very cold, woods like winter

17th: great hail

 

June

3rd: thunderstorm with great fierce hail. 3 inches deep

 

July

9th: thunderstorm

15th: great rain

18th-26th: cloudless

30th: Apples in bloom

 

August

6th: biggest raindrops known, the most last 4 months known, an extraordinary rainbow at Chester between 6pm and 7pm

13th-15th: frosts after which very fine  to end of month

 

October

3rd: thunderstorm

15th-17th: extremely cold nights

30th: much rain

 

November

5th: terrible flood at Derby

17th: thunderstorm

 

December

7th: a hot steam, December was a warm month

22nd: thunderstorm at Warley near Halifax

 

There were still getting in the corn at 22nd December at Halifax
