Mapantz Yeah I think we going to miss out by a handful of miles, makes a difference I guess to be stuck on the ‘wet mess’ from the south east opposed to from the south west…

Decided to jump out of bed & travel but Butser was too foggy.

Waiting on a bridge near Liss now. Orange strikes on the way up.

Yep. I'm heading off. The area of heavy precip just to the south of the IoW is growing and that'll subdue any activity this way. Probably due to high PWAT..

Pulled off the phone so not the best quality (saving the M50ii battery for when things get nearer) but the anvil as it was approaching the South Coast is huge. It seems a lot of it has now gotten rain-wrapped with the cells that are currently developing the convective line.

I have never heard thunder so explosively loud before, one bolt sounded like a bomb going off right outside, must've struck directly overhead. Loudest thunderstorm I've ever known.

biddie does that include here, know well get some rain, but not sure on thunder, perhaps the energy that caused the storm earlier is still here.

Completely different to everyone else. Almost entirely just flashes here but incredible silent storm overhead. This might just be one of the weirdesr things Ive ever seen. With lightning every 2 seconds or so for the last 5 minutes and only 1 rumble when it's overhead. It's caused static noise on my phone camera. This might be the coolest thing I've videod. That's not rain as its bone dry and there's no thunder. The lightning has genuinely done that to my phone.

Mapantz That big broad area of heavy precip south of IOW is the stratiform region of the MCS, it's old dissipating cells/anvils being blown away from it's path by system relative upper level winds. Usually they form behind an MCS as a trailing stratiform region (TSR), but the wind profile today favoured a parallel stratiform region. It looks messy on radar but sometimes you can get random massive horizontal intracloud flashes or high amp CGs in them every now and then!!

Are these storms part of the Warm Front or is it Thundery Showers that have developed (a trough) within the unstable humid air that’s pushed up from the European Continent?
