Northwest Weather Discussion - Dec 2023 onwards

Recommended Posts

Looked again closer could be a fairly widespread area of moderate wet snow 8am-1pm, very locally up to 2cm but generally a dusting west Lancashire with more limited accumulation east of the M6 until you get above 150m East Manchester, down to 100m North of Manchester.

An air temperature of 2C, a feel like temperature of -4C, a strong E’ly and heavy rain…later on will be grim.

Morning all.  Temp 2.5°C.  All is very calm, under pinks and greens on the radar, fed the birds a few mins ago, it's dry as a bone out. Nothing falling from the sky yet.

not a chance, it’s probably shut already on the chance that we’ll get a flake or two.

if it’s not closed by snow it’s closed by accidents

Not a sausage here.
Chilly. Bone dry and no frost. Terrier poop time extremely minimal so it’s always a good marker of how cold it is out there.

Looking at the radar, the first of whatever is falling will reach here in about an hour which matches the MET app for OL13.

after that it’s showing snow symbols throughout until the evening before things turn a bit more sleety afterwards.

in the meantime though, the winds is already getting noisy around the side of house so an interesting day coming up and anyone on high ground is going to get hammered.

work is a fair bit lower than home although still above 600ft but sure I’ll be looking at the door camera and checking on the speed of traffic going up the hill to the county boundary at the summit.

My met app is now showing heavy snow from 8-1 so let's see 🤔

Day 10 hope everyone’s sees snow although I’m sure there’s some out there who would prefer drizzle.

The met app is a definite improvement, any shift from the hi res models for today?

Should we be worried that it’s currently making no progress north beyond Manchester.

not sure whether it’s stopping or just dying but hopefully the heavier stuff which is catching up will give the first bit the kick up the backside it needs.

either that or it’s the usual Manchester shield setting up.

Moderate outbreaks of sleety rain here in S Cheshire, rain to my south across N Staffs & Stoke at higher elevation. Evap cooling may come into play once any heavier precipitation arrives later this morning  but think it’ll still be on the sleetier side here tbh.

No expect it to turn to snow when evaporative cooling kicks in.

Like I say a big pink patch will start appearing over even as far south as North Wales when this happens. It'sonce that transition has happened widely, if your still in blue then it's game over...

Rain here, 2.9C, I guess that confirms game over for here, unless the snow level is driven to lower elevation in any heavier ppn. Those in the rain shadow at low levels can be grateful!

Some intense echoes widely across Wales on the radar, but no reports at all in the Wales regional thread for the past 7 hours. I'm guessing that's a bad sign for snow prospects.
