Rush2019 Same here, and there's not much in the way of dry days coming up either. Out of the last 27 days, we've managed only 5 dry ones. A grim but unsurprising statistic. We are either incredibly unlucky, and in the midst of a prolonged wet spell, or something has changed and this could be what the future holds. I really hope its bad luck.

Quite the downpour here although there's been no lightning activity associated with it, maybe a second round before midnight according to the Radar.

Chris.R yes, I was keeping an eye out for any lightning, might have had a chance of seeing it, had I been looking in the right direction. 🤣

PennineMark not the best weather for minipilling  I would have thought  when we built our kitchen extension the footings  filled to the top with water  and that was just normal weather

A cluster of strikes around Leek and then further NE near Bakewell.

One strike to the South of Macclesfield

Scuba steve  I mentioned it before, but the past 9 months have been the worst for working outdoors, since we started 15 years ago. There's been plenty of wet spells before, but nothing compares to this.

The grim stats

1264.5mm since the start of July last year until the 4th April for the region.

There were only 8 years that were wetter than this for the region.   Just 8 years and that is a 12 month period.

Absolutely belting it down with rain here this morning. It's relentless.

However, I can just see it now, when we finally get a prolonged dry spell, they'll be talking about the possibility of hose pipe bans a couple of weeks in!

Morning all.  Feels like we've gone a couple of months backwards.  Temp is almost half of this time yesterday at 8°C and it's miserably dark.  Stepped into half inch of water outside my back door to feed the birds which unusually were not in sight, couldn't even hear any.

Could hear the rain without undrawing the curtains.  OK, I like all types of weather ( accept strong winds) but l have had my fill of this wet.

I'm off to Matlock Bath in bit, hope for a few dry hours.  A week now into April and not one single completely dry day/evening yet. Enjoy your Sunday what ever you're doing. 😁  oh, there's a glimpse of blue sky, bring it on. 🌞

On Saturday morning the forecast said some moderate showers passing through overnight. Well, as usual these days it was much worse. The squall line that passed through last night about 9pm was unlike anything I've seen before. For 5 minutes it was crazy. It passed, and then it was steady rain until at 7am this morning it was chucking it down again. Only now has the sun poked through. Outdoor plans scuppered again.

I'll be honest, just based on my gut feeling, this is a permanent change.

Lovely sunny sky now after the earlier deluge, nothing else shown to be incoming on the radar yet, but presumably showers will develop as the day progresses.

We missed the worst of last night's showers.  Only 3.9mm picked up this morning.   That's now 49.5mm so far for April.    Brutal gusts at times.   Make outdoor activities hard work.

Weather-history What site are you using for your region?    You noted 1264.5mm  rain since start of July 2023.    Up here in the foothills of the Bowland Fells at 150m ASL, 500 ft approx, we've collected 1929.9 mm for the same period in the manual daily gauge on the Met Office site.  Would be interesting to know what other sites in the north west have recorded.
