Sunny_AS I think the heaviest precipitation has now passed - probably Harrogate to Rippon faring best. Still, should be heavier pulses on and off as we head into the evening for Leeds south, before a turning to rain as we move through the late evening

We are setting off up to Sheffield in about an hour, hopefully, the traffic will have sorted itself out in 2 hours when we get there...

matty40s  Is it an essential journey?  I would avoid driving in Sheffield atm if possible, a lot of roads are blocked.. anything with an incline (most of Sheffield!) has multiple incidents.

Well something of a surprise here, almost 2 cm of lying snow with complete cover, still slight snow, temperature went up to 3.4 C for a time it's now on 0.6 C, been there about 2 hours. I expect this winter wonderland will be gone this evening, certainly by tomorrow morning.

I suspect it'll keep back building so heavier pulses still for the region. Becoming increasingly marginal from 5pm.

Pipine its a concert due to start at 7.30 in City Hall. I reckon the snow is nearly finished watching the radar and it will take us a couple of hours to get there on Mway.

Even the Metoffice says rain from 5pm now.

A good 3cm now where snow originally stuck with roads and pavements white over. Will head out around 4pm given it will be gone by morning! Should remain as snow into the early evening. Will be interesting to see whether the precipitation moving WNW out of Liverpool maintains intensity, reaches north Bradford / Leeds and falls as snow.. High res suggests marginal from 18:00, but given it is already slightly overestimating dewpoints and temperature we might get an extra few hours..

Bit more info  for Matty.

The web site will not allow copies but the 1220 on roads spoke of the A6 being closed at Toply Pike, Taddington, this is on the long pull up from Bakewell, other roads are said to be badly affected in the area. Not your concern but A53, A 54, A 537 are closed, they are roads out of and west of Buxton.

Good luck

Up toward LBA it should stay as snow till 1am. So potentially plenty more to come. But could also be a bit too marginal for any notable accumulation.

Kathryn Atkin yes we’re just up the hill from hunters bar, a lot of the roads round us have had multiple accidents and have got blocked with cars unable to move.  Even the main routes are blocked.

Now up to 4cm of snow and still coming down nicely. Temperature has remained at 0.2c for the last few hours. Looks to turn heavier again around 4 before turning lighter and no doubt drizzle as temperatures begin to climb. Should just about make 5cm by early evening..
