  1. Rain earlier turned to sleet then wet snow just before 12, which surprised me as the temperature is 3.0C & dew point is 2.8C! Snow was moderate for a while but nothing settled & seems to have stopped now. So those further west questioning their high dew points you may be in for a surprise
  2. As urban areas get more & more built up they generate more heat, that's why cities don't get as cold as the surrounding areas. Central London is a prime example of an urban heat island, it rarely drops below 0C there & if snow falls rarely settles. So with more & more houses being built these urban heat islands are going to spread out further from the cities, so more areas will see less cold & snow.
  3. Just plain old rain here this morning with a temperature of 4.2C & dew point of 3.2C. Can I also just mention to those in Devon & Cornwall who like to moan that they are snow starved, that pretty much the whole of the extreme south coast is in the same boat as them. Back in January I had a slushy 2cm of snow that melted after 1 day & that was the first snow I had seen for over 2 years! So don't be under any illusion that all those further east than yourselves live in a snowy winter wonderland
  4. Had some rain overnight but largely clear & sunny so far today with the odd cloudier interlude, looking at the radar it seems any precipitation has skirted around Portsmouth, not that it would fall as snow here as it's above 5C with a dew point of 1.9C after a low of 4C.
  5. Well been a lovely day down here out of the wind, peaked at 12C earlier because of the sun, clouded over more now & dropped back to 11C with a dew point of 4.5C. Met Office warning for ice tonight/tomorrow am does not include the coastal areas or the Isle of Wight & my forecast keeps chopping & changing between rain & sleet
  6. South Today were live from Chesil Beach tonight reporting about this, the guy they were interviewing had a Guillemot & he stated the unknown coating on the birds was like a 'resin' that had stuck the feathers & wings together, poor things
  7. Said goodbye to mine last Saturday I am just looking forward to seeing the sun over the next few days
  8. Well it's 4.3C with a dew point of 0.1C in Southsea, so will be rain here but those of you further north may see some sleety snow for a time.
  9. Well it only dropped to 2C last night, the cold snap went out with a whimper here! Not looking forward to MORE rain later, just want some nice sunny days now
  10. So some coastal areas got a dusting of snow first thing, well the Southsea snow shield was up & working, only had a bit of very light drizzly rain here!
  11. May be turning to snow inland but it is falling as rain in Portsmouth
  12. Overcast here, but at least it's not raining again. Off out to go play in the puddles now
  13. Just had a quick drive out of Portsmouth to try & find some snow. Rain turned sleety once off the island & it turned to proper snow by Horndean. Then went to Clanfield & drove on the road to East Meon, which was very scary as the snow was coming down like a blizzard & blowing off the fields onto the road which was already covered. Decided to try & find civilisation (& gritted roads!) so headed to Petersfield where I thought it best to head back down the A3 to the rain on the Costa del Solent rather than risk ending up in a ditch
