Happy new year to all folks on here. My hope as usual is for a return of mild west/south westerlies. I hate snow and ice with a vengeance and where I live has just so happened to have been in the firing line 2 days running on Monday and Tuesday morning for about 3 or 4 inches of snow. Now the pavements/side roads are just death traps. Snow ice compacted. Glad for the kids and all that who love it but I will be glad when it melts and goes away.
Yes indeed , not everyone has to be a snow and ice lover , I detest it , not great when you have to travel to 15miles to work early mornings on untreated roads wondering weather you will actually get there in one piece, you can be as careful as you want , but there is the risk of other idiots smashing into you , plus inevitably snow goes grey , messy and slushy after a while. More of a storms/thunder person myself , I know that can bring flash flooding and the associated misery or wind damage , but any weather types has risks .

Quite a dumping of snow here on the very low elevation Wigan area during Sunday night /Monday, well for here at least
Whats strange the places a few miles just north of here and higher ground such as the aptly named Winter Hill got very little if any , thats almost unheard of , not normal for this area , but since when has 2020 been normal

North West England , Midlands and Wales have done quite well for storms this year, much better than than the south east actually , which is not the norm

we need to lockdown again , if we want warm sunny weather , it was pretty obvious once lockdown eased the weather would know about it , and be its usuall b****d self , that warm and sunny spring all wasted
-
Lots of crackly sounding thunder here about an hour ago , saw no lighting , so mostly IC , but a few must have been CG with that distinct deep thud type sound
-
Thundery activity seems to have been killed off in Chesire/Merseyside storm , cant complain, had a cracker yesterday and half decent one earlier this afternoon
-
well at least the coronvirius likes the cold charts, a better chance of it spreading
still need warm summer 27c temps to curb it , not coming anytime soon
-
Its that time again , predictions of the first 20c , this time last year it was happening now, This year ?
14th April, just a wild guess
-
We need warmth now , if only to slow down the spread of viruses, which are more muted in the warmer months
Cols spring it is then

Looks like it will remain very wet but getting a bit colder. Joy.
As if incessant wind and rain isnt bad enough and you think it cant get worse, then it does by turning to cold incessant wind and rain, with omnipresent leaden skies , the worst type of weather imaginable , just gross If its going to be wet and windy it might as well stay mild .
Cold is good when its still and frosty, leading to crisp cold sunny days , otherwise no
Please put winter to death and let spring in, my favourite season, when the trees start greening and there is a gentle warmth and blossom scent in the air. Winters are depressing

I am not looking for cold now , I want dry sunny and pleasant temps , so sick to the back teeth of this current set up
Unfortunatly it looks like turning colder , which means the rain and wind will be colder urghhhhhhh
I have a feeling March will be colder than Jan and Feb , because the weather likes to take the Michael

not much wind here, such a boring location for anything extreme, just the bog standard stuff of moderate rain and slight breeze

its gone very calm here
-
nothing extreme here , trees are only moving gently, yet another twig twitcher *storm* for these parts

Just a bit of wet and windy weather here, like a typical autumnal day nothing extreme

In any case the reason i would like freezing weather all year around is because of the effects on wildlife - have a phobia of moths and spiders and it would kill off all of those like permanently - i hate insects.
Of course the bees would die off permanently too , and nothing would grow anyway and then as a result of that , humans are gone, but if thats want you want ,
Just go and live on the north pole

Reasons for not looking forward to Winter, where do I start? at least the night starts getting lighter in just over 5 weeks time .... a faint glimmer of hope, Then the horror of January needs to be ridden out , then its uphill again to spring , Febs not great but dont mind it as most the horror months are gone ,and spring is not too far ahead
You guessed, I dont like winter

Well the other side of the Pennines has stole the storms again , yesterdays forecast showed lightning over the NW, yet somehow I still knew it would be a far east event
-
^ Not many bad summers in the 1990's, it really was a good period , and for thunderstorms too
contrast that to post 2007 , lots appearing in that list of shame, something has changed (low solar)

Cumulonimbus over me now giving just boring rain , not even that heavy, there is no way this one was ever going to be electrical moving over this area

Annoys me how they only start as a whimper overhead here and only intensify after they've passed
Same here, the ones from the south or north wales always seem to fizzle before they get here, yet storms have no problem developing to the north of here and then beefing up more as they push away further still, this area really does kill them today is a classic example of what usually happens ,it is very annoying , still I got to hear a whole 2 rumbles , yay for that

Lots of thunder from a cell here earlier this afternoon, only two flashes seen of sheet lightning though, most of the lightning was intracloud and not directly overhead , but a very loud cannon shell sound must have been a fairly close CG strike, could have been a positive strike jumping clear of the main thunder cloud

Same here , lost my interest in snow years ago now that I have to commute to work , not fun very early on dark cold mornings driving in snow and risking a crash. I drive carefully , but its others sliding into you where the danger lies , I have concerns about the vaccine rollout too , but lets see on that one
Lets get back to normal with this awful winter respiratory virus at the back of us , with some sunny bright days and some storms/convective cloudscapes too
