  1. Odessa, TX

    19-May -2015

Yesterday’s storm chase was a first for me ended up in a flash flood Nr Pecos  e started the day at Childress then headed to our target area the storm started to fire up to the south west of i-20 and a town called Pecos  we headed to shelter in town to let the core  pas over  plenty of small hail and some larger 10p size mixed in . After that passed we headed south on hwy 285 towards Fort Stockton we ran into heavy traffic  and the back end of the this storm was starting to produce a large amount of hail the landscape south of town looked like a winter wonderland with 6-8†hail drifts  as  we cleared the storm there came a report of a thin rope tornado and 4inch hail  but that was not headline for this storm because of the slow  the forward motion at about 5-10 mph the storm dropped about 4inches of rail in ½ hour leading to flash flooding which we got in see pict below(to follow) Nr small town of Coynossa We had stop because of the optical illusion that the cars where sliding of the road  but in reality we were not moving. After that we head to Odessa for the night .

  2. Monday 18th may-8.30am local

    Good morning All

a fine warm sunny morning in Chilldress this morning todays storm chase is going to be in the furthest SW corner of Texas possibly setup base camp somewhere around midland or Odessa.

The conditions are marginal at best due to lack of moisture  this i think is a classic dry line setup as storms fire off the dry-line heading into the approaching moist air from the GOM

tomorrow is looking a lot better as they will be a deeper moisture pool to work with for mid western Texas around Lubbock and to the west.

  3. Hi All.

After 18 hours of travel last yesterday finally arrived at the Days inn Norman, OK at about 9pm local time  just as the squall line hit the hotel, what a way to start the fortnight off.

as the storms are to far away for us to reach today we have traveled to Childress, TX with the view to capture any storms coming up from the south west and possibly New Mexico.

i would have posted earlier but had a connection settings issue with my laptop, all sorted now

  4. Hi All

Just a quick update i finally got around to sorting out my insurance with dog-tag yesterday

i had to go through medical pre-screening, as i take prescriped medication for arthritis, so not too many questions and was not charged any extra as it was deemed not a risk.

As i have already travel insurance with my bank account but that does not cover stormchasing but it still cost me £88.

as i am on another tour with Charles Edwards, i will be setting up my own thread on the fourum to keep everyone updated on the chase/tour.

see you all under the meso  Paul

  5. So guys less then 4 weeks to my tour... Just getting my stuff sorted out .... What's peoples opinions on taking tripods for cameras ?

    Hi Thomas

To get the best from your shots you will need a tripod especially if taking lightning shots, As hand held will show up as bluring on the image, longer the exposure worse the blur

If you already have one it will need to go in your suitcase ,

If you don't wait until you get to usa as they are usally cheaper to buy out there, either from wally-world(Walmart) or Best-Buy :)

  6. Hi Dave

I am travelling to Dallas with BA  but i am on a totally different tour and day

when you booked your flight with BA your should have been issued a 6 fig and letter booking ref number I.e. 48SR7B

    • if you go on line to BA'S web site and to go manage my booking,
    • enter the booking ref no and your last name it will bring up your flight details.
    • from there you will be able to print out the flight itinerary this is all you need(having printed form makes things a bit easier at the airport if there is any queries.
    • when you check in online you can print out your boarding passes or use BA app to your smart phone.
    • you can also check in at the airport at the self service kiosk this is where your booking ref no comes in handy you will probably need to do this at airport on the way home anyway to print out a paper copy of the boarding pass.
    • if you haven't done so yet? Go on BA'S website under manage my booking and fill in the advanced passenger information as this is required.
    • yes you can choose your seat but it will cost and all the better seats have gone by now i would wait to till you check-in and then you can choose your seat for free

    i hope this helps

P.s I forgot to add you will still need to go to bag drop to check-in your hold luggage which is virtually a mini check-in anyway and you will need flight details and passport this where the printed itinerary comes in handy .
