  1. Edit that went a bit wayward see below for another attempt .
  2. Snowing here in North Hants for the past hour and settling. Note on some of the animated charts above where the precipitation bumps into the colder air denoting the leading edge of snow with a large swathe to the west where temps are higher. Currently 1 deg here 47 % humidity. Elevation 95 metres . Noted just now when I drove down the hill the snow is finer so I must be somewhere on the 2m temp freezing range. In the heavier precipitation we have a bit of evaporative cooling with bigger flakes so bit of a knife edge situation. Be interesting later (tomorrow) if the present front line transition area moves slightly further west to keep the warmer air at bay coupled with heavier precipitation. Could be a good dumping or a lot of rain. Anybody's guess.
  3. Yep I'll second that Stoxs, blowing a hooley and a drop of rain to boot.
  4. Cripps I didn't know that. He used to be my neighbour when I lived at Weyhill Road . He was in his in between phase,t hat is running low on cash before Wet Wet Wet took up one of his songs. Tip my hat to him.
  5. Here's the U.S take on things for us in UK and Ireland http://www.meteotime...ge-weather.html For the diehards here is the associated vid
  6. 2cm of new stuff (snow) in the past 2 hours and still coming down.
  7. First burst just arrived here. Looking hopeful. Heavy but fine snow which is instantly settling.
  8. Snow here heavy but small flakes, just started so on it's way to Newbury shortly
  9. http://www.weatheraction.com/displayarticle.asp?a=512&c=5 Whoops that's jinxed it
  10. Well if it's any consolation, just heard one of Ian's colleagues , David Braine on radio 4 at 6pm describing cold air pushing up from the continent and interacting with the atlantic systems to give potential snow for the south. Have to say haven't yet verified that myself by looking at any met charts, as mentioned above the whole thing is stressing me out with Ian Brown and others versus the rest of the model forum. Thank goodness for Ian F who takes a more level headed professional detached view.
  11. That'll be one of our new members then. Spotted earlier in the mod tent, sorry I mean room - "naturist-holiday.com" Just in case I'm on the wind up check in the member search but best log out first else you could get approached
  12. Daisy just turn up the volume on your PC and you can hear the din coming from the model discussion room
  13. Rob Mcelwee but then again depending how old one is you could mean Bert Foord
  14. Last year with the mild weather changeover period from 2011 to 2012 everything kept growing notably the strawberry plants and I have never seen "so many" ladybirds during 2011. In contrast to now a year on the strawberry plants are still going but hardly a ladybird in sight this year and as autumn approached they seemed to fade away ?
  15. Just to add to the replies above in addition to any sustained level of sound one also has to pay attention to the rate of sound pressure increase as the ear will try to compensate for an increase in SPL but a sudden burst does not give the ear mechanism time to adjust catching it unawares in effect. In addition exposure to high SPL's over a period of time tends to have a cumulative effect. Not sure what the noise spectrum of thunder is but any particular band of high intensity frequencies (again repeated over time) will lessen the ears ability to transmit that particular range of sound to the brain. The morel is always wear ear muffs to bed just in case As an aside one of my favourite oldies is "there's something in the air" by Thunderclap Newman
  16. Here at the dish the squall line has just passed through, about 15 mins worth. Rain intense. Wind force hooley
  17. Hmm interesting. Just went to that biology link above and then found a link from this to youtube. https://www.youtube.com/user/adreambeam Well have to say that every vid that she put up as a "relaxation" trigger produced tingling but in an extreme opposite way for me. Notably the crisp packet crunching and whispering was for me the equivalent of nails being dragged down a blackboard so I am thinking that I may have been wired incorrectly at birth. Maybe I can still get a refund for incorrectly supplied goods. Will have a further search for an antidote.
  18. If anyone is looking for cold type synoptics this bloke is upping the anti. http://willcooperweather.weebly.com/long-range-forecasts.html
  19. In fact it is now seriously snowing. Yeay get that sledge out
  20. Oh blimey that's blown it. Hampshire has flipped over into spring watch and MILD convo's. Anyway how are everyone's daff's, snowdrops and primroses? Our roses have hardly had a rest, they must be knackered . "Me I'm just a lawn mower, you can tell me by the way I walk"
  21. Have to concur there Gotto. Might be a couple of days premature but looks like the "alternative" sources are looking shakey although they are holding steadfast at present and even GP had a glimmer yesterday albeit the infamous "ten dayer" line. I think as many have said this season the good stuff has always been pegged at 10 days. Tends to grind us all down in the end. Funny, when I was a kid I actually used to look forward to March in anticipation of snow. Oh well roll on November. Thats All for now folks.
