  1. I've had the Davis Vantage Vue for about 5 years now.

Never had any issues with it, it's been well maintained and survived 2 house moves!

Noticed a couple of weeks ago one of the wind cups had snapped off. I've brought it off the roof, done the usual maintenance, replaced the cups and added new C123 lithium battery.

Since changing the battery I've struggled to get any signal. When the  console receives data it's ridiculous values (68c temp etc).

The station is transmitting on 1. Now here's what I cant get my head around...

The station transmits for a few seconds AFTER adding the new backup battery, then it dies.

I left the backup battery out of the transmitter last night, and put the station out again, no data received overnight. This morning its receiving data again, obviously the solar element is working fine.

It all seems very backwards to my simple brain! Is it possible to have failure of the backup battery component? And I've used 3 different batteries so no issues with them!

Any advice would be massively appreciated!

i agree Chris , the snow starved East Riding could get some snow tonight  ( Beverley and Hull deserve some luck ! )

It's a shame the back end seems to be more sleet/ rain.  Wintry showers following on for the coast. Metoffice seem to have removed the snow warning now for tomorrow. Still in place for Saturday.

  4. Hopefully we'll get some decent snow showers here on the coast when the northerly kicks in on Friday. Met warnings for the coast so hopefully not a marginal situation!

I feel snow may be overshadowed here by the immense sea's expected.

High tide Friday pm is at 6.07m. Storm jude was 6.34 and there's a he'll of a lot more fetch this time. Surge with 13-15ft swells expected.

These pics are from today with tide at 5.9m and a westerly!

  5. Just a single degree cooler it eould have been snowfest here in scarborough!! Been sleet and wet snow all day.

Racked up 13.4mm so far and still coming down.

Some local accumulations causing bother on the roads.

As i said earlier though. The winds been the main issue with numerous trees down.

    This one from hackness.

Edit - eyms busses just tweeted victoria road closed due to structural damage to a building!

I'm In Dalby Forest it's amazing!!! Only a few inch at the top but the flakes are huuuuges and accumilating quickly.

Sweet! Saw your vid. Looks ace... 8mm of wet slush fallen so far today! What a waste!!

Doesn't even look like any coastal showers after the band which was initially forecast. (thats what i was pinning my hopes on!!)

  7. It's easy to forecast drier after the relentless rain we've had! racked up another 10mm so far today. That's 68.4mm here since 1st Jan.

Onto next week and the cold is definitely coming! The usual favoured spots should do well for snow, the NYM and the coast depending on marginality. Of course features could pop up anywhere nearer the time.

The issue with the MOD thread is that it's never enough! The main issue seems to be how long the cold will stay in place. The ingredients are all there! It just depends where the cards fall i guess. There is also a large amount of IMBY posts in MOD, bear in mind the majority are down south!

I eagerly await the next Meto text update at around 4pm. As it stands their forecast of a brief cold spell followed by return of Westerlies is difficult to find in any of the model output but who knows what MOGREPS is showing!  (Only them!).

  8. Wow! May not yet be overun with the white stuff but it's certainly windy!!! Not experienced winds like this for a long time! gutted my weather station isn't mounted cos I'd love to know the gusts. Brid recorded 50mph but feels loads more than that!

Here's hoping the showers later on can provide something decent!! :)

  9. Indeed!! First few flakes of the season!! :)

Unfortunately temps will rise tonight associated with the band of PPN. All rain event here i think.

I'm more interested in the convective showers tomorrow. Wintry mix daylight hours but after dark we could get some accumulations providing the showers continue.

  10. With all eyes to the weekend I didn't see last night coming!

Impressive squall at around 9pm. Regular lightning, counted at least 10 strikes! Rain rate of 30mm/hr with some impressive gusts!

Spent all summer tracking storms and then that hit out of nowhere!

As my good mate Viz said above, Probably nothing much here on the coast tomorrow in terms of snow, Saturday probably looks best at the moment. There should be some decent convection due to warmer SST's.

We've had many surprise snowfalls here in Scarborough in November. Stronger convection = heavier showers, Remember a few years ago, Hudson forecast rain, woke up to 3 inches of the white stuff. It didn't stick around long but some surprises may well pop up!
