This winter contained a rolling 31 consecutive day period that looks like it went below 3.0C for the CET, we will know when February has been finalised. That's 6 of the last 7 winters if verified that has happened.
There was a period when we were struggling we couldn't even get a calendar month below 3.0C to the point that people were questioning whether it could happen again?!
The Manchester Winter Index is going to be in the low 80s, it is clear to me that location has played a massive role this winter, maybe more than usual. Even in the greatest winters or indeed any season for that matter, some locations always does less well than others. Last winter was not that wet here despite it going down overall as the wettest winter on record.
We had more polar maritime airmasses this winter than for sometime and those locations that do well out of these synoptics have done OK. For instance, the field behind me has been snow covered for 7 days and patches of snow in the back garden have lasted in total nearly a fortnight.
Not been the greatest winter but good for a winter with little in deep cold or northerly blocking.
Wow, December 10 was something special ey! -5.8C!
January here was -0.3C below average.
February was spot on average at 4.1C.

This is a new station which I set up on 2nd Jan so not quite a full month. Despite stormy conditions it seems we saw very little rainfall here in the sheltered East. We've already exceeded January's total rainfall in the first week of February. (Thankfully, as i was starting to think my rain sensor was faulty!!).

Well, when you least expect it....
Heavy sleet and hail from around 4am left us white over at dawn. Even main roads were slush and tricky for the rush hour after the ice had formed earlier in the clear gap.
Just had a rain shower now mind so i reckon that's it but it was a nice surprise!

-
Further sleet and hail showers so far tonight. Dew point 0.6c.
Bit slushy and icy out.
-
Glad most have seen some snow now that had missed out previously.
It's been nice to have some wintry weather and after a good dusting yesterday evening i was hopeful for the showers overnight.
Whilst temp and dew point were favourable the showers just didn't want to hit. It seems everywhere within a 5 mile radius had some snowfall.
Loads of cars heading in to town this morning with snow piled on the roofs!
The lack of showers did make for some really icy patches though.
So a graupel dusting was about the extent of this cold spell (and the whole winter) as nothing but rain will fall now on the coast.
Here's hoping for a good ord fashioned 24 hour Northerly toppler between now and end of March! I'd settle for that now!
-
Just started snowing here after a pretty dry night.
Unlike brid! Been hammering it down all night by looks of radar.
Friend on fb just woken up there by thunder!
-
Been watching the radar for a while now.
Showers to the north, south and west!
They've all missed us so far.
Plenty more chances through the night though.
Sweet spots last couple of hours seem to be bridlington and hull.
Really icy out now. Just need the showers!
I'm on nights by the way! I'm not normally this obsessive!
-
Nice! Yeah vizzy looks like we've got more coming our way.
Edit - actually it's probably going to be too far east for me, but you should still get it!
Much in pickering cw?
-
Showers calmed for now at the moment.
Sheet ice formed already. Nice and crunchy underfoot!
Conditions great now if we can pull some more showers in!
Meto forecast shows snow now thru till 8am...
Shame its so unreliable!
-
Just managed a good dusting from that shower!

-
Hmmph! Whats the point in checking dew points? -0.4 before the shower arrived. Now its ruddy 1.0c and sleet!
In the space of like 3 mins!!
Yuk!
-
Had a couple more snow showers, We're just the wrong side of marginal at the moment though with a dew point of 0.7C.
Hopefully it'll drop a bit after dark.
Nice seeing the snow though, it's just not laying (yet!).
-
That snow shower was nice!! Melted fast though. Temp steady at 2c but humidity shot up. Dew point now 1.1c.
Hoping for a bit of evaporative cooling as the next shower heads in!
-
Nice big flakes falling! Dew still -1c. Looking good!!
-
Very light snow currently in Scarborough
Edit - moderate now!
So it is! I was that busy sulking at all the rain we have forecast and working out my Jan stats I didnt notice!

Temp 0.3C Dew point -4.1C, Perfect, apart from the showers are a couple of miles off the coast. So close yet so far. Every aspect of this cold spell has been against us.
Looking ahead, showers tomorrow as mentioned above. Checked Meto text forecast, rain at coast with temp of 3C!
I give up!
-
Snowing here at last. Hoping more showers will crop up tonight....
- 2
-
Yep, there is now no snow warning at all down the east coast until Wednesday now. And that's 96 hours away...
As if!! And thats what ive been waiting for!!
Still should catch some snow showers down the coast surely. Maybe just not enough to warrant a snow warning. Very Dissapointing.
-
Yes more rain here again too. Things looked OK around midnight with a dewpoint below freezing but now the showers have arrived its 3.1C with a dewpoint of 2.2C - not even any sleetiness.
We managed a brief spell of snow yesterday morning before that turned to rain, but we're still waiting for the first lying snow since March 2013. Its getting silly now!
I think the most notable thing so far is the wind, Regularly gusting over 40mph, giving a chill below freezing.
Latest BBC weather showed regular snow showers right down the Yorkshire coast overnight tonight.
-
More rain, as expected really!
Temp 3.9C, Dew 2.3C.
Looking forward to the cool down later cos this is grim!
