  1. 18z... no real changes with regards to precip location, still looking good for our region. NMM coming out in half an hour should be interesting.

Not got much time to check the data. Just browsing the MetO forecast which has heavy to light snow here on Saturday. NetWeathers forecast which i believe uses GFS shows heavy snow Friday afternoon, all day Sat and into Sunday. Met's warnings don't cover us so still as clear as mud.

    Any thoughts?

  2. Sleet and snow through the night. Wrong side of marginal though and nothing stuck. Just wet and miserable out there but snow falling now.

Thanks to everyone for pointing out my readings. I wonder how long it's been wrong.

Colin pointed it out last week but i thought it was just a one off!

My station has a fault that means as soon as Dew Point drops below 0.0C it reads -170.5C! Instead i take the temp and RH and enter them on this website to calculate dew point.

Is it my station or the website?

I'd appreciate it if someone who has access to a dew point reading would use the website and let me know if it's correct. If so i'll be looking for a new station! smile.png

MO showing heavy snow here for Saturday rather than Friday. Chances will be better than last night if the front positions right!

  3. Spent the afternoon in Dalby Forest, around 10-15cm there after a good 24 hours of hefty snow showers. Really quite stunning up there! Only a few cm back home which has mostly thawed now with just a patchy covering left. Back in York now and there's been a some big hail showers as even parts of the roads were covered coming inot town. A fascinating day for a weather fanatic biggrin.png

Our lass will be pleased. She works at GoApe In Dalby! Always good up there. They have to climb the wires to open the course. Not nice climbing the zip wires when there's a few cm's of snow falling on your face from the wire!

  4. A really decent amount of heavy snow showers here today. Turned a little sleety around lunchtime but back to snow this afternoon. The showers this morning were heavy enough to leave a covering which melted each time between the showers. Nothing disruptive but lovely to see massive flakes coming down in the heavier showers.

Still forecast showers tonight too, though lighter than earlier the temp should have dropped enough for them to give another dusting.

Ruddy marvellous to see the sun in between the showers too. It actually feels quite pleasant and warm when you're in the sunlight. Any laying snow didn't stand a chance!

Here's a pic from one of the heavy showers this morning after the nights snowfall had melted there was no snow on the ground at all 10 mins before taking this.

  5. Heavy snow shower now and the good news is that the wind has dropped out completely, so if you catch a shower it will last a bit, not like the last couple of days.

One car made some tracks through the village and 5 minutes later they were covered over again. Let's see what the night brings.

Grand view of the wolds slopes this morning. Wight over.

Woke up by a mega shower last night, hail, snow, gusty wind and a rumble of thunder thrown in for good measure! a complete white out! T'was reet grand! Looks like the rest of the showers were of snow as nothing else woke me up and we have around 3-4cm's cover.

Wind really dropped here too allowing the temp to drop of enough to freeze everything. Temp is now 1.0C, RH 80% with a dew point of -1.8.

Squally showers forecast for the rest of this morning before turning lighter this afternoon and overnight. My sister in law is heading back from Gibraltar today too! She's gonna be freezing!

Awww, damn gritters just been past. Bye bye snow!!

  6. I'm surprised your dew point is that low, it always seems to go up during showers (with the humidity) even when like yesterday it is well below freezing.

In fact looking t yesterday's graph you can see the showery spells as the humidity saws up and down

Aye, Iv'e noticed that before. This time though the humidity rose from 34% to 50% during the shower so it was already very low. Whether that's accurate or not i'm not sure. Never recorded humidity that low before.

Had quite a few decent showers today. Started as heavy snow then progressively turned sleety. Temp now 2.7C, RH 73% = Dew point of -1.4C.

A rather interesting forecast on the MO for tomorrow.....

  7. A couple of decent showers blown in in the last half hour. I'm so used to it being marginal on the coast, Iv'e not seen snow like this for a long time, It's really dry and powdery, Really swirling about in the wind. Not laying great, I'm expecting a 10 foot drift at the bottom of the street when i go past because that's where it looks like it's all headed! !

Checking back at the radar the Wolds look to have done well overnight and some in other parts of Scarborough reporting a couple of cm's. Very hit and miss.

  8. It's stopped raining here now and the wind has strengthened quite a bit. Temp starting to drop too. colder air must be arriving with the front clearing.

Temp 2.1C with Dew point 1.9C.

According to the meto's warning the showers tomorrow and Monday will organise themselves into bands of snow. Hopefully we end up under a few of them.

Climbed Snowdon last weekend. Would not like to be at the top of there the next couple of days!!!

  9. A cracking day here now after the low cloud and fog cleared. Temp now 7.9C. There's still a few patches of snow about from yesterday.

It's looking increasingly likely winter isn't done with us yet too. Most models going for an Easterly mid to late next week. Worth keeping an eye on.

Just had an Amber alert from Aurora watch sent to my inbox. Will be worth checking the sky tonight if it stays clear!

  10. The second band arrived an hour ago, pure freezing rain, still -0.4 and only rising very slowly. Very nasty stuff, ice everywhere.

Same down here! The cold surface air is desperately clinging on -0.2C here and the second band has brought back the very odd icy rain which has left a solid sheet of ice on my front windows! It's starting to melt off now but i have given in and put the heating on!
