From the album: PM Photography Weather Photos
Taken hanging from my bungalow just before christmas. -
A real yucky day here In the Boro. Temp hovered around 3C all day with constant moderate rain with occasional sleet in the heavier bursts. I could'nt help imagining what an event would have occured here if the temps were just a couple of degrees lower! Instead a really rapid thaw has taken place, hardly any snow left now apart from the huge piles created by the ploughs. Does'nt look like much of a change here for the next 4 days at least. 100% cloud cover, light rain and a very nippy wind. Great while it lasted! I'm gonna upload photo's very soon and have a good reminisce!

Bye Bye snow! light sleet after a rapid thaw aiding the melting! Still got a nice covering but have a feeling i may see the ground for the first time in 2 weeks by the morning! I did hope for a little snow with a dew point of 0.2C an hour ago, but now it's rising and is 0.9C with a temp of 2.8C. Been a great cold snap though! Time to stop radar watching and uploading the photo's Iv'e taken!

I was hoping that milder air that comes with tomorrows snow would dissapear from the models today but no luck. I think it could be a soggy affair here and I don't see temps decreasing too much after that either so it could be the end of the snow for us here on the coast  That said forecast temps have been at least 2 degrees higher than what Iv'e recorded so you never know! Temp here now 0.8C, (Not the 3C forecast!) dewpoint -4.3C We've had a few light to middling snow showers today but nothing significant. Drifting has been a problem though, We have a field seperating the cliffs and the main road and drifting snow is building some significant accumulation. We only just made it through so tommorow morning should be interesting! Got some great snaps of the raging N sea though which I'll post later!

Great forecast Lewis, Just a quick question, I'm hoping to get out and about with the camera today and so far we have had just light flurries here In Scarborough. I noticed you mentioned accumulations but I'm wondering if you think this is the case North of the region? The BBC forecast maps seem to show a gap from the Whitby area down towards The bridlington area. Do you think this is correct? Any input greatly appreciated!

Looks like we had a couple of light showers after the heavy ones late last night. current temp 1.3C but dew point -5.3C which has left a layer of dry powdery snow which is drifting considerably recorded a gust of 26.9mph at 04.56. It's on;y gonna get worse! I keep looking out thinking it's snowing again only to realise it's the wind drifting the snow! Looks like we will get more today, particularly heavy this evening. I'm at work now till 8pm so everyone enjoy!

Cheers mate! Just had another pasting! First decent snowfall we've had since Tuesday morning. All you guys in the path of these showers should have some large accumulations. Family and friends in Pickering are reporting large totals and a friend of mine is snowed in at Cropton! As for the sand! It's caused a right storm! Apparently it's gonna block all the drains when the snow thaws! The council also had to get a special licence to use sand because it's "the queens sand!". A report in the evening news here said that if the general public were caught taking sand from the beach they could be prosecuted!! I see some more showers forming out in the North Sea, Not sure if they'll hit here. Up at 5am for work, Should be a fun trip!

Thanks for that. It amazes me that there are no official stations from Bridlington right up to Fylingdales. Especially with a town the size of Scarborough. We always get different weather to Brid and Fylingdales being inbetween the NYM and The Yorkshire wolds. Temp now showing 4.8C and there does'nt seem to be a major thaw so must be wrong. Lewis - Did'nt you have a problem like this recently? Did you get it figured out? Does anybody reckon we will get any heavy snow here in Scarborough today? As i said just light showers so far.

Keep missing the showers. Still got laying snow from the first band on Monday and just had light showers since which hav'nt really given any further accumulations. I thought we were in for a pasting about an hour ago but it didn't come off. Surely with this set up and us being right on the eaat coast it's only a matter of time? Temp showing +4.5C but I'm not sure it's accurate as my station is currently in direct sunlight. Can anyone advise? I put my station on the garage roof where I can get accurate wind speeds but on the downside it's not sheltered from the sun so I get Innacurate temps. Can anyone else in the area confirm temps?

Haha! Did anyone just hear on BBC breakfast that Scarborough council are using beach sand instead of grit now! Using some common sense for once! Still not as cold here on the coast but cold enough Temp +1.9C Windchill -3.5C Dewpoint -6.2C Light snow showers started in the last hour, I see some good shower activity today and heavy snow here tomorrow.

Well I might dig out the shorts and t-shirt! We must be the warmest in Europe! Temp 2.8C! Steady thaw overnight, Just 3-4 cm's left now! I do hope John was right and the temp will drop this morning because it's all a slushy mess! That said the wind has picked up and there is a notable wind chill. Off to work I go, enjoy the snow those who have it!

Evening! Just a quick question. We've had some decent snowfall here in Scarborough today (Around 9cm's). We've also had some potent showers tonight mainly of a wintry nature rather than snow. I just nipped out to be greeted by the sound of dripping and thawing snow. Temp at the moment is 1.6C with a dew point of 0.7C. All the forecasts Iv'e checked range from -1C to a balmy +5C overnight! Any ideas if and when the temp on the coast here is going to drop below freezing or are we just going to have an awful slushy affair with the cold spell!
