And I bet we don't get a red warning either like wales did for 20cm of snow, Bishop got 20 odd cm the other week did they see a red warning? did they hell it was amber
All hell will break loose in the MOD thread over the next 24 hrs if the south gets rain and the north gets snow, it will make for good viewing but I won't be posting in there now for a bit I'll let them fight it out amongst them selves
or the 35cm of snow Consett got....the closest we got to an amber snow situation is when the cat went outside and peed in it....

The GFS Op runs are on the mild side of the cluster, almost an outlier in truth, the mean and the control being much cooler/colder from the 9th/10th onwards in the 'reliable'. The ECM has the centre of the low slightly further south, but critically with a less 'flabby' low which keeps most of the north of England in the sub -5 uppers, this seems to be the pattern the BBC are following at the minute. I wouldnt be surprised to see an event similar to that of January where Consett got 14" and the coast got nothing.....
-
well that was all remarkably un-exciting....

just started in Durham now.....but very very windy
-
Well the thaw is well and truly underway. Not sure on totals, but in terms of actual snow fallen, I think this area must have recieved something in the region of 70-80cm in total. Fluvial flooding could become a real issue over tonight as the DPs rise rapidly, there is a lot of water locked up in the hills at present, and the soil surfaces being frozen will result in some fast run offs. Not as dramatic in terms of cold as some previous years, but I cant remember another spell in recent history where we have had two falls of around 30cm (1 foot) in the space of 6 days, plus other smaller falls between. You always know its been a good 'un if the Council have to use JCBs to get the roads open....
-
much colder out there today isnt it? feels like real winter. snow drifting around the streets of Durham....cant wait to drive back to Consett later....:-/
-
Don't see where the minus 4s and minus 5s are coming from tonight, very misty out there with temps hovering just above freezing.
-
Snowing steadily in Durham, sky very dark and roads covered
-
fresh dusting in Durham now, few more showers on the radar too.....
-
We've got similar problems.
I took this on the way back from the pub - its the path from the Travellers to Knitsley Lane: https://www.dropbox....4a1yd/Trees.JPG
Owwww very nice.

Clear skies here now.,...brrrrrrr.....
-
Wow. That looks like heaven, although it also looks like any more snow for you guys would be extremely dangerous.
Avalanche Warning on Blackhill Bank

send it to scotland
Whole streamer is expanding with some much brighter echoes mixed in, and the temps have dropped by around 1C in the last 30 mins so the snow volume will be far greater I would assume too....maybe it aint all over....
-
Yes. It might as well be rain.
I really hope GP is correct and we get a GH in around 10 days time. Little chance of rain here from those as the sea warming effect is not as prominent.
well thats dog s***t.
Not sure about the prognosis, models scream zonality into next week, not sure I am on board with that yet though....
-
Reckon Consett will get some of it or too far south? Not that I should complain if we don't. Share the wealth and all that
Snowing again now but I think the heaviest PPN is north of us
-
Something you don't hear often these days
Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
-
This band of showers is looking very much like Newcastle's win....reports on the ground??
-
Then you'll probably have to cope with being snowed in tomorrow.
I already have that problem, in the scheme of things an extra 5 cm isn't going to affect how much digging ill be doing lol.
-
You might, I don't and this is looking less marginal, so hopefully it'll give us a good amount of snow nearer the coast..
To be fair, id like to see the entire region wake up white, crispy and powdery.
-
What does this mean then? Sorry I'm an amateur
Sometimes behind the main system, a linear feature of convective activity (heavy showers) can occur. Being convective they can appear and dissipate fairly rapidly. The 'oh dear' is because we have enough snow thank you.
-
It's certainly getting heavier mate, looks to be intensifying every second. This could be a fun night after all.
Small squall line seems to have appeared out of nowhere behind the main system....maybe this ain't over....oh dear....
-
As an aside, Id like to see how some places east of the A9 do overnight, some of the towns like Braemar, Pitlochry, Ballater etc are going to get the full effect of orographic forcing as the SE wind slams square into the Highlands....worth a check in the MacForum in the morning...
-
Please tell me that you're 365 metres not 365 feet asl...?
That shot was taken from around 190 m or 630 ft....
-
well it seems to be slowing right down now, I reckon a quick dart out to clear the car will be needed before it freezes up
