Just had a really heavy squall up here....probably dropped nearly a cm in about 10 mins....
-
Rothbury looks a hundred times more accessible than Consettshire

Still plenty incoming which seems to be intensifying as it reaches us.
Orographic effect then....ramping up as it hits the hills. It does seem generally lighter now I think. Currently at 10 hours of non stop snow though now!!!
-
For you maybe, would you like me to post some pics of our snowfall which is approaching 1ft?
Its a joke in Consett but for the opposite reasons right now.....temps and DPs slowly edging down, but has the most intense stuff now passed northwards?
-
Is anyone tracking the temperatures up here in Consett area? Just wondering what the trend is now, when I was looking at the models last night the 'marginality' seemed to be at its greatest around 9am (now)
-
Those that left for work could have a problem later with snow and temp dropping. Also snow looks to be intensifying. Deep and drifting in lower Consett. God knows what it's like in Consett itself!!
A dump like always lol.

-0.4/-0.5 at Medomsley weather station
-
Canny snowy. That's the science bit. So the snow may last until the early hours of tomorrow now, extended again.
-
Shower activity is still picking up ahead of the System....we might get a bit of a covering before the main band arrives
-
When's it expected arrive into our region?
3 hours from The Wash to Humberside is progress so far....so I for one wont be waiting up!!!
-
Temps and DPs are fairly consistent up and down the east coast from East Anglia all the way to T&W, so that should give the coastal peeps some hope given the snow appearing to the coast.
-
Skegness now reporting snow as intensity picks up, one assumes evaporative cooling in that location. Wet snow reported in Grimsby with Highways reporting +1.8C/-1.1C there.
-
Snowing lightly now, fresh dusting. Temps dropping still but DPs rising noticeably (-0.5/-2.5 at Medomsley)
-
Snowing in Sprunehorpe....
-
Probably 40 odd km knowing our luck
I reckon around 5 to 10 miles, though in the NE is obviously variable due there being some hilly areas near the coast.....
-
"Sleet here - looks like the coastal influence is being felt up to 10 miles inland, we've got a strong and blustery ESE wind, which is obviously having a moderating effect on temps and dews." Quote from someone in the Lincs forum at 60m asl....early days though for them.
-
Duration extended again by BBC into Tuesday....a degree or so drop in temperature and this will be widespread chaos.
-
Snow into Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire now, but rain in Skegness at the moment.....
-
If it rains in Newcastle I may have to get a bus to Consett to see what its like, if they're running of course!
they were off yesterday morning....so yer good luck if this comes off ha ha!!!
-
speaking of the East Anglians....heavy lying snow is being reported in Lowestoft.....if you are unsure check on the map....
-
And don't forget east facing high ground in the NE is predicted much higher totals than East Anglia was!
Indeed, I thought that but decided not to type it for some unknown reason lol....the orographic effects of the system slamming against the Pennines can give some huge PPN totals as we saw in the summer with rainfall.....so, lets see...but I think 30-40mm of PPN is not impossible....
-
In line with MetO and NWP modelling, opportunity for 20-30cm for Consett, 30-45cm in the North Pennines, where is Mark/Tucco/Teesdale?
Well, yes, but some are saying now it is exceeding their modelled expectations, especially given it looks like they will have this system over them for some hours to come, I did notice the BBC extending the duration of the snowfall into tomorrow night, which could represent almost 24 hours of snow....
-
Some of the East Anglians are reporting between 8 and 15cm snow so far and they are still sat right underneath the system......also I have noticed the shower activity slowly pepping up in advance and the band has rapidly expanded up toward Humberside now....
-
Definitely snow showers here now, but I'm sure that I wasn't mistaken when I said it rained earlier as I even opened the front door to check.
You werent going mad, i deffo saw it too.

BBC did a tremendous job of making Consett looking very nice, I am not actually sure they were in Consett to be honest but hey ho....the reporter on News24 described it as 'knee deep in places'.
