Just got in from work, so what's happening? How are we for this eve/tonight? News 24 just now seemed to indicate heavy stuff over moors and into Wales later, with northern parts of the wider south west region getting patchy snow. Am i reading this right or just being pessimistic?
If i'm interpreting it right, much as Ian F predicted i think.
Light to moderate snow here for the last half an hour.
Pretty wet stuff. Not adding to the lying snow.
-
the whole thing is stopping and turning north i knew this was gonna happen maybe better in long run coz of all the ppn to the south of bristol
Really starting to come down now. Settling.
-
Getting heavier, snow not that wet. Supprisingly.
-
Really stong wind. Snow started falling.
-
First Flakes in Yatton.
-
Bloody hell it's moving quick! Won't be long before it hits us.
Thats what I thought. Sure the forecast had it arriving much later for N.Somerset. Oh well.
-
I am currently in Nailsea working, so I don't know whether it is snowing or not in Weston.
lol! Maybe i will get it before you now. We will see!
-
Hoping because the winds are coming from the south east, being near the coast should make (hopefully) no difference.
Yep good shout. The wind here is picking up a bit. According to the NW Radar it is right on Westons doorstep.
-
Looking good on radar, the leading edge right across the front is showing as snow on the radar. Some if not most are going to see snow fall north of say Minehead in the next couple of hours.
You should get it just before me in Weston. Hope you get snow there mate, I know what being near that coast can do! Good luck.
-
Much sooner based on what?
Local BBC yesterday were having snow into Somerset by the afternoon. Looking at the radar as its still doing whatever its doing over Lands End we would be looking at a good few hours yet.
No snow forecast into North Somerset until after 18.00, moved in much quicker.
-
Precip just entering Dorset and Somerset, quite a bit sooner than anticipated.
Very much sooner.
This could all rush in over the next five hours then that might be it!!
-
Plenty of rain in cornwall and devon now.
-
To be honest i cant see any excitement now for Cornwall and Devon because by 6.00 am wednesday it will be raining. Even across the moors.
Somerset into N.Somerset will hold on just to the colder temps so sleet or snow (patchy) ....north of Bristol patchy snow tomorrow morning dying away.
Also the snow into Gloucester looks like dying away and patchy at 5.00am tomorrow. Seems to just get above Bristol then start to fizzle out.
-
Rain heading in to Cornwall and now approaching Devon.
Not even sleet yet according to the radar.
-
Once again i will say it. After the GFS at 3.30 a Massive Downgrade for snow potential for Gloucester.
I said this before Ians blog update, but again nobody listened.
Also a downgrade for North Somerset (my area) Bristol etc.
Kept saying this.
BIG BIG BUT...this evolution is great in my opinion for increases the chances of cold holding out until a re-load next week.
LP's diving in France...perfect..........This means the BLOCK IS TRYING TO HOLD OUT.
Just shows how strong this block could possibly be.

i watched bbc news 24 at around 6pm, a reporter (cant remmember name) stood at top of gloucester (assume at birdlip) saying major snow fall hitting gloucestershire this time tomorrow 6pm tues, people already panic buying ready for major snowfall.
better stock up on milk and bread then
If you watch the forecast snow dosent reach you until 3.00am, then it starts to die away and fizzle out.
We will just have to watch that radar.
This time tomorrow no snow over Gloucester.
Early today it was forecast to hit Bristol at rush hour...not any more.
Early hours for Bristol too.
-
Aspire , show me the downgrade.
I haven't been here, been working
edit or James
Easy.
The 14.30 forecast showed lots more snow further north.
GFS 3.30pm =
18.30 forecast, much less snow totals north of Bristol.
Much less snow totals IMBY too.

MASSIVE DOWNGRADE FOR GLOUCESTER ON THE FORECAST 1 - 2 CM
ONCE AGAIN I WILL POST MY CHART OF SNOWFALL.
I WAS RIGHT WHEN I SAID SNOW STRUGGLING TO GET NORTH OF BRISTOL.
Dogs32 and the other Cheltenham guys you wouldnt listen, all going SE into France across Devon and parts of somerset and north somerset.
-
Does anyone know how another blanket of snowfall will effect the rest of the week with regards to the models with so much cold air at the surface?
-
Good i dont want it to go that far north at all, up to gloucestershire and worcestershire is where it best stall then slip south slowly.
Watch the radar for the PPN from 12.00 onwards.
Should be very interesting to see where the PPN goes.
All should get something.
-
Personally I think it will stop 1.6 miles SW of Yatton!
Shame for you too then. That means you would get F all!

EXACTLY..SPOT ON!!!!
I watched the forecast..I wont say who he was, but the forecast was heavy rain after some snow maybe..
They where so confident of this S/W Lp was going to kill the cold.
We all was convinced that Glos wouldnt get the snow or Southern part's
Didnt bother staying up that night as we expected rain.
Instead I woke up to an amazing site of blizzard's and high wind's with power cut's due to the snow sticking to the pylon's.
Awesome experience as a kid...
Very simialr set up as today...
Watched these BBC charts now since 1972 AS A SMALL KID.
We do have a great potentail from this,The event in 1981 or 82 did eventually turn to drizzle.
But after dumping so much snow and high drift's.
Dursley recieved 15" if I remember correct( while Chelt had 1ft..
very simialr to this event as the LOw struggled to push East.
Date's might not be 100%..when I was young I didnt keep a record...
Guess it was 18th of January but not sure..
We had a few of these James..If your father can remember.
I have said through out these weeks that Channel low's or South Westerly's are the one's to watch for.
Not the Beast from the East for The South West.
Nowcast memories are sometime's the best
Have you seen the latest PPN for your area?
-
Latest NAE accumulation.
Will it reach far enough NE for Gloucestershire to be affected?
Exactly....... Dogs32???
Latest chart hardly anything in Gloucester as I just said...going E/SE.

I was just under that deeper pink patch on NW radar. This PPN is not that heavy so far.
