  1. I've just emptied 24mm from my gauge for the 2nd consecutive morning. Although it's drier now I'm giving work a miss and hoping for 4 better mornings to come. Bonus time with my wife and boy!!
  2. I said the same to my wife earlier, only with last nights deluge included to have made it a double whammy. We're only about 3c too high.
  3. Merely 24mm in Warminster, wettest 24 hour period since 27-28 March.
  4. Temperature is dropping at 4.8c, could be evaporative cooling given the rain but won't go far enough for snow. However it must be lower on Mendip.
  5. Very disturbed frontal cloud spreading in this afternoon, all cloud types as listed by Knocker and also a few rows of rare Kelvin Helmholtz cloud displaying the differing wind directions. Also quite rare to have frontal cloud encroaching while remaining instability with CBs and sharp showers are ongoing.
  6. Great to see you Gibby, I agree re tomorrow and it could be particularly wild when the trough passes through early pm. I seriously fear for some people's sanity when we have such wintry potential at close quarters and long term yet there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. God forbid if things were like 12 months ago!!
  7. 14mm from the heavy rain and subsequent sharp showers first thing this morning, now a lovely bright and breezy day.
  8. Here's hoping your last winter on Mendip is one to remember!
  9. The last major snow was 18th January 2013 so closing in on 4 years! We moved house 2 weeks after that and since being at our current house there hasn't been more than a dusting, be it slushy or powdery snow.
  10. Mine too, but it's far better than the mild, SW airstream rain which we had time and time again 10 to 12 months ago. This year seems/is vastly different and we're much nearer proper wintry conditions. There have already been 6 ground or air frosts, did we even get that many during all Autumn/Winter 2015/2016!?
  11. As with Friday a very poor forecast which showed scattered showers moving SW into the region but the reality has been a band of heavy rain. Could be icy in the morning considering the temperature is dropping already, hopefully the councils are ready for gritting.
  12. Unexpectedly wet here too, 9mm between 10am-1pm. That was followed by a lovely end to the day and now pretty crescent moon setting in the West.
  13. Wonderful not to have low cloud or fog this morning, a slight frost which led into a mostly sunny fresh day. The sunset has been marvellous to watch while feeding my boy but unable to take decent photos through the window.
  14. I have had that continually scrolling page issue a few times too though have been able to quickly click the reply button and enter a post, give it a try if the issue recurs. Were they the horrid Harlequin ladybirds? They seem to come out on warm Autumn afternoons looking for hibernation places, might be worth a look in your window frames if you aired your house in the warm sun like we did.
  15. 41mm in October, far and away the driest October in 12 years of recording rainfall.
  16. As with many places there have been a number of foggy mornings recently. However they are very variable in nature, on a few occasions I have been working in Trowbridge/Bradford On Avon in sunshine only to return to fog in Warminster then again on a few other occasions the exact opposite has occurred. It was the latter this morning but with the fog only clearing as I got within half a mile of home. Fog is the one weather type I do not understand! Glorious 'last burst of summer' afternoon!
  17. It has rained overnight but not a jot showing on the Net Weather radar which I have reviewed every 5 minute update of.
  18. I'm not sure it that exceptional, if you look back to archived charts from the last few years there have been several warm Halloweens.
  19. 10mm of rain yesterday and overnight took the monthly total to 41mm which barring a surprise looks set to be the final total, therefore a dry October.
  20. 10mm of rain yesterday and overnight took the monthly total to 41mm which barring a surprise looks set to be the final total, therefore a dry October.
  21. It's far too early to be able to forecast, however the basics are if the weather is coming from the East or North it will be mostly dry/cold and potentially wintry. If it's from the West it will be a mixture of chilly/showery and mild/wet. If it's from the South or South West it will be mild/balmy and frequently wet. The latter is what we had for virtually all of December last year with max temps of 13c-15c and min temps remaining in double figures.
  22. I saw a fantastic long, bright meteor at about 06.30 this morning as I was leaving home.
  23. Forecasts suggest thundery possibilities spreading NE early tomorrow and again tomorrow afternoon. I have just emptied 4mm from my gauge which fell in pre-dawn heavy showers on the last 2 mornings. October now at 18mm. Besides those showers it has been a lovely week.
  24. Just parked up in Trowbridge only to be greeted by monsoon like rain. This was most certainly not forecast by any tv or model prediction that I saw last night.
