  1. My relatively new sensor has decided to stop working altogether! So am in the process of trying to get a replacement and getting frustrated at not knowing the temperature. Besides that we are into the 3rd mostly fine day in a row, although both Sunday and yesterday had a heavy afternoon shower that filled the sandwiched of plenty of sunshine.
  2. My wife has reported a torrential thunderstorm with hail and overhead lightning/thunder at Great Wishford. Here in Warminster a brief sharp shower and I didn't hear any thunder even when it was near Westbury!
  3. I'm a bit confused about Wednesday. The BBC forecast at 13.30 seemed to show Wednesday as a washout for most of Southern England, then the local forecast showed the icon for Wednesday as thunderstorms. If it was the latter I would expect at least a dry start to the day after the overnight front with warm sunshine helping big showers etc to develop from mid morning (as weather09 mentions).
  4. Mike, you and I both know that the clear blue will be until around 10am when Cumulus will develop, spread out and make for bright/cloudy afternoons which will feel cool in the shade and when the sun is not shining. The sky will the clear through the evenings. Not liking the change in emphasis for next week, seriously hoping for work related purposes that it reverts to more ridge influence for us even if that means brief frontal rain. Glorious at the moment and definitely cooler though very pleasant. Looks like the Hampshire/Dorset coast is having some fun though.
  5. As seen from Warminster. Real time lightning shows the strike to have been practically on top of the Frome Flyer restaurant and Travelodge.
  6. Just spots at the edge of the cell but thunder to the N/NW a minute ago from a very well defined CB. Rada suggests Westbury has had a downpour.
  7. Little cell near Devizes heading roughly this way, plenty of energy for it to tap into so am hoping it will be of interest in an hour or so. Enjoy your storm Dorset coastal people.
  8. Charts would suggest that any lingering showers this evening and those clipping the South overnight will be the last rain for quite some time. IMBY 'only' 11mm today whereas some places have had considerably more. Also only 38mm since 11th April so although cool until last weekend it has been relatively dry.
  9. Well yesterday wasn't overly bad with showery light rain/sharp showers and some muggy hazy sunshine in the afternoon, however this morning is utterly vile with low Stratocumulus and moderate rain which seems set to worsen soon, 14.4c and calm.
  10. I never normally welcome rain when I am out working in the mornings, however this morning's occasional sharp showers were very pleasant and refreshing seeing as it's so humid. Some hazy sunshine in the last hour has lifted the temperature to 20.6c .
  11. Really impressive explosive storm development this afternoon. We were up at Westbury White Horse from midday until 14.00, in that time the sky changed from total Cirrus/Altocumulus cover to almost clear blue and hot sunshine to rapid development of Cumulus, TCu. We then visited my parents in Westbury and in that half an hour the sky darkened and produced a sharp shower at the edge of what looked set to be a storm. We then drove from Westbury to Warminster, having indeed realised the first local storm had fully formed near Trowbridge and I spotted further development just to the SW, kind of Frome/Shaftesbury way, and said to my wife I fully expected a storm out of that. The radar then exploded into life around Midsomer Norton/Wells and there must have been some serious hail cores within it judging by the light pink echoes. As for Warminster, not a drop of rain and ended the day with the first alfresco dinner of the year with warm sunshine and the temperature still above 20c nearing 20.00! What a far cry from last week when it was down to 4c at the same time lol. In fact, similar locations (specifically Trowbridge/Bradford On Avon) have had an Arctic air sourced thunderstorm last Saturday and a continental air sourced storm today!

  13. They must be testing their system with the craziest warning possible on the warmest day for 7 to 8 months!
  14. That caused an insane hailstorm and flooding between Trowbridge and Westbury. Makes me wonder where all the energy has come from under a ridge of HIGH pressure.
  15. Insane hailstorm causing flooding between Trowbridge and Westbury an hour or so ago and I daresay more in the Chippenham to Devizes area now judging by the radar. Where has all this energy come from under a ridge of HIGH pressure?
  16. See if you can get the typical April theme from the review of this weeks weather ... Monday ; blustery showers, sunny spells Tuesday ; sunny start then hail/snow showers Wednesday ; frosty/sunny start then hail/rain showers Thursday ; frosty/sunny start, rain showers from mid pm Friday ; heavy hail/rain showers then sunny/windy
  17. Wonderful weather watching day ; a frost, pleasant sunshine, fast formation of CBs late morning resulting in frequent soft hail and snow showers, spectacular skies to enjoy and topped off in the last hour by witnessing a flash of distant lightning while driving home from Bristol which the radar/detector shows as being in the English Channel!
  18. I don't think it's that cold, it felt quite humid out working in the sporadic rain. Today is like that day in midwinter when it's been mild and you know a severe cold spell is coming and you wait for the rain to turn to snow during the day as the cold air undercuts from the North, however that of course will not happen today because this weather is occurring in late April!
  19. Good set of photos Offerman. Disappointingly cloudy today after a clear and slightly frosty start. As I drove out of Warminster at 7am I could see the long straight line of cloud to the N/NW/W and just knew it would become the dominating factor of the day. Dry though.
  20. I was able to discern what looked like an embedded CB just over half an hour ago during a brighter spell and sure enough as that moved over the rain got heavy and convective in nature.
  21. Yes it's turning into another very wet day and interestingly it was possible half an hour ago during a reasonably bright spell to discern what looked like a CB embedded within the generally frontal cloud. We will certainly need the drier spell beginning on Sunday because the ground around here was sodden on Monday, took until late Wednesday to begin to dry out and with today added to yesterday's downpour it's waterlogged again!
  22. 4 rumbles in 4 minutes then quiet with torrential downpour including marble hail and now cleared to warm sunshine!
  23. Odd seemingly pulse type storm, 4 rumbles in 4 minutes then quiet, a torrential downpour including marble hail and now it's cleared away to warm sunshine.
  24. Thunder near Warminster, I've been tracking a discrete cell which popped up to the South and it's slowly edged this way and begun to backbuild, it's the backbuilt part which has turned pink on the radar and produced 3 rumbles in the last few minutes.
