  1. A heavy shower woke me at 05.30 in Warminster but it's a lovely, bright chilly morning working in Trowbridge .
  2. A very surprising heavy downpour in Trowbridge at around 10.00! Otherwise cloudy and bright today.
  3. I thought they were fallstreak holes. Here they are as seen to the South from Trowbridge and a little later from Westbury. What causes them to form? Pretty spectacular sight.
  4. I'm assuming a trough has moved South overnight bringing the light rain/showers that have not only dampened the ground but introduced pleasingly clearer air, totally blue sky as sunrise beckons and temperature dropping at 8.6c .
  5. Truly wonderful blue sky throughout today, maximum sunshine and a very gusty SE wind. 17.6c tops and really pleasant. With the forecast of more cloud tomorrow and shower risk into Friday (as well as colder wind) I can't help feeling there won't be another day like today until the Spring.
  6. The breeze actually feels reasonably balmy tonight, perhaps something of a fohn effect off Salisbury Plain? It was quite therapeutic hanging washing out under starry skies.
  7. Fantastic day ; a cold and patchily frosty/misty start accompanied by a colourful sunrise due to scattered Cirrus. Virtually unbroken sunshine with scattered small Cumulus this afternoon and the maximum was 17.7c recently. The minimum at home was 4.9c which was the lowest since 4th May.
  8. Not hard seeing as it's the 1st!! LOL. Fantastic sky watching afternoon with CBs aplenty and rapidly forming downpours amidst plenty of sunshine.
  9. In the last few days banner ads for Santander have appeared on the Extra Radar page on my mobile. They enlarge without me clicking them then take over the whole screen. This morning I have had it occur 3 times with them then returning to a banner, only there are 3 banners! I appreciate that ads are necessary but please remove these dominating ones. I need to use the radar for work purposes without complications when rain is around. I do not need Santander!
  10. Quite a strange morning to be out working. At face value the sky wasn't particularly threatening for 90% of the time, including some decent periods with brightness/hazy sunshine. However it rained at varying intensities more than 90% of the time, quite often from no more than thick Cirrus. This combination allowed weak rainbows to form and let there be good sight of mid level instability/embedded convection.
  11. The wind was very gusty this afternoon. We have had a number of warm/hot and windy days from the South this last few months.
  12. Yes it is rather balmy this morning with the Southerly breeze, plenty of Cirrus and hazy sunshine, 16.4c and given continuing hazy sunshine I would be disappointed if we didn't reach 21c.
  13. Summer has returned after a showery/misty start to the day ; warm sunny spells and scattered Cu/TCu, 20.4c .
  14. Today has been the worst day in a long time , not even a hint of brightness although it was clear on the Eastern horizon at 06.30 . Dull and misty throughout with showery heavy rain until about midday and drizzly most of the afternoon. Also the coolest day since 29th June with the max being 16.6c .
  15. Some people must have draught problems if a brief outdoor single figure temperature makes it cold enough indoors for heating! We didn't max above 27c here last week and have had a few nights into single figures this weekend, however the coldest part of the house (hallway near front door/stairs where the thermostat is) hasn't dropped below 21c! Heating will not even be considered until that area drops to 16c and that will be unlikely until November.
  16. I'd like to know how much fell a few miles NE of Winchester. On the current 24 hour accumulation it is into the pink colouring and there was probably some before this time yesterday.
  17. 23.4c and very warm/humid. Noticeably hazy in the atmosphere and some interesting AltCas has been moving over all morning.
  18. Was it a CG? The same site showed one approx. 500m from me at lunchtime and that had stonking shotgun thunder!
  19. Several close CGs in the Warminster area, cannot believe how this is so similar to Saturday 27th August. Right overhead now. Daytime storms are a real rarity but my goodness I wish this had been at night!
  20. What script was this in? Verging on a repeat performance of Saturday 27th August! Both in timing and outcome so far. Near constant thunder just to the West/South and some bright lightning when the flashes are close enough, might get a direct core hit judging by the radar. Yet again, this would have been stunning at night! Err edit, rather close CG and shotgun thunder!
  21. Not strictly true. 18th September 2014 had an intense thundery plume that destabilised near midnight producing fantastic electrical storms from the South coast and moving North a long way inland.
  22. They are coming from mid to high level cloud, hardly anything reaching the ground as it's evaporating.
  23. Glorious in Great Wishford for the schools 3k and 10k runs. I can hardly believe we're set for another summery midweek followed by a late week cool down and likely wet Saturday!'
