  1. It shows how this Autumn/Winter is going when you get excited at finding a your car windscreen is frozen at 06.30! After a 2.8c min it has again rebounded into double figures and is currently 10.8c under clear blue sky and sunshine.
  2. I agree re the back edge cloud Mike, was lovely to watch it pass over while I was out working in Melksham. Shock horror the temperature has actually dropped into single figures since midday, 9.8c now and showery/breezy after earlier max of 12.6c .
  3. I think the cloud cover is largely around coasts and hills with it quickly breaking up inland and to the North of high ground, probably promoting a foehn effect temperature wise. Staggeringly I have set my December max record for the 3rd time in 7 days! Warm enough to work outside wearing shorts/t-shirt, windows open to comfortably air the house, washing drying well on the line, the only thing telling me it is really December 7th is the very low sun angle!
  4. Are you sure your gusts were only 23km/h? You must be very sheltered. It was blowing a hoolie here from around midnight until 18.00 with some extremely strong gusts which must have far exceeded 50mph, made a mockery for the local footballers this pm.
  5. Ian warned on his Points West forecast yesterday evening that some places could see thicker cloud and some drizzle at times, presumably a weak area of instability moved up the Bristol Channel area. Been a fine day in West Wiltshire with sunny spells and banks of cloud, comfortably up into double figures again too after a 4.5c min.
  6. Aha I forgot about that detector even though it's in my favourites list, now that shows how rare thundery activity has been lol. I am guessing you added the yellow lightning to it though? Brilliant for zooming in to see where it happened.
  7. Pretty remarkable, 2 rounds of lightning and thunder and epic sheeting rain and wind for about 10 minutes. No lightning showing on the radar detector though.
  8. Hope you foot recovers quickly John, that'll teach you for trying to emulate the residents there! Sat here wishing it was 3rd of May, June, July, August or September (rather than 3rd December) with the likelihood of this current warm sector having provided hot sunshine (would have potentially been 30c+) with the embedded sharp showers which have affected us giving way to a very thundery evening as the cold front arrives from the West. As it is the sun is not strong enough to burn off the low-mid level cloud so we have indeed had sporadic sharp showers, no brightness, temperature around 13c all day and will only have heavy rain later.
  9. I agree with previous posts about the status updates not being fully readable without visiting the member's profile. A few minutes ago I posted in my regional thread and had typed the temperature. Accidently hovering my cursor on the typed Celsius figure brought up a pop up which displayed the comparative Fahrenheit figure. Is that a new feature of this? If so it's clever. Regarding skins, I hope a Christmas one is available soon.
  10. Beautiful day although clouding over from the West, 13.6c right now which is the highest I have ever recorded in December since starting 12 years ago!!! Interesting, I have just hovered over the temperature I had typed and it brought up a pop up window displaying the comparative Fahrenheit figure!
  11. Stood on my patio at midday before going back out to work I was debating if it was 1st December or 1st May. The sun was shining, birds singing, it was pleasantly warm and we have summer flowers still blooming. At this rate the summer blooms will still be out when the Spring ones start lol.
  12. After a half decent morning with some hazy sunshine and blustery showers it's been a shocking afternoon with driving rain/drizzle and a very gusty Westerly.
  13. Fascinating radar with 1 squall line split into 7 separate parts stretching SW-NE across 100s of miles at the front of the band of rain!
  14. I think it's definitely a 'thing' Mike! The type where you get soaked in 10 minutes. Pretty much the same for the 4th day running here with Stratocumulus/drizzle alternating with bright sunny periods.
  15. I've spent the day near Salisbury and fully expected the overcast and slightly drizzly start to the day to continue throughout, however there were several hours of bright blue sky and sunshine this morning which made for a Springlike feel when outside.
  16. Did any forecast predict a band of rain to develop through the morning and be sitting over the SE quadrant of the country early afternoon today? I went out at 07.00 with the temp 9.8c, it's currently 7.4c so several degrees lower than first thing.
  17. Some good photos posted in this thread this morning, it was a cracker of a sunrise for the 3rd Monday in a row! Lovely frost which lingered until after 10.30 making me yearn for days of 'permafrost'. Would truly love today's conditions to be replicated for much of the winter as it's beautiful to be out in bright/hazy sunshine and calmness.
  18. Some non settling wet snow recently and looking forward to seeing if there's any hint of a dusting on Salisbury Plain or Cley Hill, however what has really caught my eye is how rapidly the front raced South ; the leading edge timings of 05.30 at Chippenham then 06.30 at Poole which is approx. 60mph!
  19. The frontal cloud is finally making a shift South with hazy sunshine and a freshening WNW breeze. However although it was cloudy, the rain stayed South of here and I was pleased it was dry this morning as I had 4 hours worth of outdoor work to do to get my week completed. 8.3c at the moment, probably going to be the coldest day since March.
  20. A wet day with some heavy rain for several hours this morning sandwiched by drizzle and sharp showery bursts, it also looks like the front will wave again overnight into tomorrow morning so potentially another wet spell tomorrow before the cold/bright conditions head South.
  21. Highly impressive squall line an hour ago, that's two afternoons in a row! That came after a sunny pleasant morning and the sky is clearing quickly again now. So a very changeable day with one constant being a very strong gusting wind.
  22. There was a stunning sunrise this morning, that's 2 Mondays in a row. A few blustery showers and some pleasant sunshine until it has gone generally overcast in the last hour while also cooling down to 11.6c at present (I managed to prise my sensor battery cover off!). While many seem to be turning their attention to the potential cold snap, which I would not be surprised to see provide wintry showers down the Western portions of our region while further East/inland remains bright/dry, there looks like a real gale coming our way tomorrow evening/night.
  23. Very gusty and overcast, but dry. Battery has died in my temperature sensor and we can't remove the sliding battery cover lol ! At a guess it's 14c (ish) !
  24. It seems an absolute age since a clean convective sunshine and showers day!
