  1. Yea it is a pretty grim day Thundersnowdays. Drizzle for much of the afternoon and very gloomy most of the time with occasional brightness, it could almost be a warm sector day from the Atlantic but this is moving in from the NE!
  2. Sudden clearance from the East in the last 10 minutes, from very dull to bright blue sky and sunshine. Satellite images hint at a lovely afternoon to come.
  3. Raining, showers have pushed much further West today, however it is only the 4th day with rain in the last 20 days.
  4. When we had the settled spell a few weeks ago with the Easterly wind there was barely any cloud at any time of day for a week. However this time around while the Easterly breeze is similar it is following another pattern ; clear sunny mornings, fair weather Cumulus by midday, overcast with brief sunny spells most of the afternoon then clear by dusk.
  5. Altocumulus provided a lovely backdrop to the Vulcan Bomber this afternoon and just a few minutes ago made for a wonderful sunset
  6. I am presuming there's a lot of high cloud spilling off from ex Joaquin.
  7. Carol Kirkwood said on her 06.15 g=forecast this morning that the Northern Lights had been seen from Somerset last night, did anyone on here see anything? I did have a look out at 22.00 but it was quite cloudy.
  8. Much more Autumunal today with early blustery showers followed by a cloudy, windy and occasionally bright day so far. Currently 14.9c with a brisk WNW wind.
  9. Almost certainly. Zoom to BA12 if you have the NW radar and check it out. LOW centre must be right over E.Somerset and W/SW Wiltshire right now judging by radar shower movements going anticlockwise around in a circle with quite an obvious gap between Warminster-Shepton Mallet (East-West of circle diameter) and Wincanton-Bath (South to North of circle diameter).
  11. A very disturbed morning with heavy showers and downpours developing from the South coast and spreading quickly North across this area, some sunshine too. The sort of conditions where getting caught out in a 5 minute downpour soaks you (me!!) to the skin, causes a lot of surface water then clears to warm sunshine. 15.8c now after a recent downpour, however half an hour ago it was 17.9c .
  12. They're nothing particularly interesting, just going to bring some heavy rain. I would be more intrigued if we'd had any warm sunshine to fuel the atmosphere.
  13. Frequent showery rain/drizzle all day so far but nothing particularly heavy. Noticeably muggy at 17.3c and 96% humidity. Bring back the chilly starts and clear blue sky warm sunny days lol !
  14. Today makes it 8 days with pretty much maximum sunshine aside from a little Stratocumulus on a few early mornings and also a few afternoons with scattered Cumulus.
  15. We have some cloud for the first time since early last Saturday! It's broken Stratocumulus/fair weather Cumulus and there is plenty of warm sunshine too.
  16. What's wrong with it? Plenty warm enough and it's actually preventing fog in the mornings which would likely mean 3 or 4 hours less sun on each day this week!
  17. 5th consecutive day with almost maximum sunshine, with added Cirrus in the last 24 hours to provide colourful sunsets and sunrises while not causing the sun to become more than a little hazy! 19.3c at the moment and a breeze from the East.
  18. It's a sundog, frequently occurs in Cirrus at 90 degrees to the sun. That is a stunning photo!
  19. Some great photos everyone, thank you for sharing them. We set an alarm for 03.00 and were so glad we did as the blood red colour was awesome to see as well as being eerie due to some low cloud blowing off Salisbury Plain.
  20. So pleased we set an alarm for 03.00 as to see the 'blood' coloured moon was awesome. It was extra eerie due to some low cloud patches which were drifting across from Salisbury Plain. Wonderful day, nudging 18c and full on sunshine again after early shallow fog/low cloud.
  21. Wow the West Country was in stunning form today for our day out to Sidmouth for my wife's birthday. It's been in the pipeline for weeks and when I first saw a HIGH pressure chart 10 days ago I was hopeful, however the reality far outweighed any hope. Virtually clear blue skies all day, especially on the coast and very strong sun beating down plus reflecting off the sea. Quite a brisk breeze at times but plenty of places to shelter from it while remaining in the sun. Plenty of West Country fare consumed too! Pasties, ice creams, tea and cake and a great spur of the moment meal at Mattia Diner on the A303 (between Sparkford and Podimore services roundabouts) which wipes the floor with its' Little Chef predecessor! Roll on the lunar eclipse tonight!
  22. Clear sky and mist with the temp at 4.1c which is the lowest since early May.
