  1. As its really really bad on the high bits. Just heard reliable 2nd hand information (person who works with the Gritters) that West Yorkshire and possibly North Yorkshire will be out of Grit by tonight. So its going to get a whole lot worse - so if you need anything and you have access to a gritted road get it now as the roads could become impassible.
  2. March 2013 was odd, in that over Skipton way it was bad, but just on the border and around Colne & Clitheroe it was a LOT worse. I know a few farmers near here lost their whole flocks as they got buried. 1 small village and a few hamlets that are less than 2 miles away as the crow files were completely cut off for over a week - the main A6068 (the road the M65 turns into) was shut for 2 days. All that wasn't so much the depth though it was the speed it came down just completely stopped everything.
  3. March 2013 was the highest snow I have experienced round here, but the cold is akin to dec 2010 - thanks to the windchill. If this snow carries on it will beat 2013 though, it really is silly especially given there is no real breakdown in sight - apart from the GFS being the GFS.
  4. Ok this is getting silly now given we are only under yellow warning. Got large drifts everywhere, had to dig out the backdoor to be able to try and get the dogs and cats out, all the cats refused as they don't want to go in 3 foot+ drifts! Actual snow height is haven't a clue, will check later when have to go out in it.
  5. Heavy snow on and off all morning. Yet we are in the gap between the amber warning areas God knows how high it is now, is over a foot on chairs and tables near the house but on the fields I try not to stay still long enough to work it out due to the cold.
  6. We had another 3-5cm overnight, but its the showers this morning that are just stopping that have brought an absolute ton. Its dropped almost another 10cm in the past 2 hours, paths that I cleared this morning now have snow above the tops of my feet in my whellies. Its gone from being nice to being really deep very quickly. Could well imagine somewhere to our North East has over a foot of the stuff by now.
  7. The one or 2 schools that have opened round here could see their headteachers being in trouble if that comes off as per the radar. Lunacy they opened given its about 5-10cm's widely, side roads unpassable and looks like possibly another 5cm+ coming by midday.
  8. 3 Distinct heavy bands now over Yorkshire moving inland. Should mean everywhere will get a few cm's in next few hours.
  9. Whitby is getting a hammering. Already reportedly had a lot overnight, yet the convective showers are hitting it hard if the radar is right. All their schools are already shut thankfully. School closures widely around Craven and Keighley areas. Also school closures in Bradford but Bradford schools seem to close at the first snow flake.
  10. BTW snowing heavy again here. Not to rub it in the faces of the snow less
  11. ITS SNOW! It can be hard to predict where its going to land even 3 hours away never mind a day away. Lamppost watching is the only reliable way of seeing if its going to snow
  12. Currently got 8-10cm here, so the warnings were needed but they just got them to far East. Still moderately snowing as well so could end up with a few more cm's.
  13. Its so far looking like the HIRLAM was right its a lot more wide spread than predicted yesterday, but is moving fast. Way its progressing does mean everywhere in the region should get at least a cm of snow, with the Pennines and the Whitby part of the North Yorkshire Coast the sweet spots.
  14. The low is now on the edges of the UK Radar! Also according to the radar there is snow almost over the whole region currently, its just light expect it to get heavier once it gets dark and the temps drop.
  15. Dont be - Everywhere is going to be hit if the HIRLAM is right and its increased in size. Just the bulk is going to be on the Pennines, with everywhere from Liverpool to Hull getting a few cm's - i.e. its possible everyone is going to get a good amount of snow.
  16. Ok HIRLAM now has it barreling through our region dropping 4cm an hour almost everywhere as it goes, carriers on through to Wales only dying out there. Means a good chance of 5cm's widely but anything beyond that is unlikely as its only going to be heavy for a few hours with the bulk gone before 6am.
  17. 12Z HIRLAM already has it larger and a touch more west than its 6Z predicted for the same time. Makes landfall about the same spot but is larger area of precip.
  18. Now goes to the border of Lancashire. Wouldn't be shocked if they move it again if the 18z's follow suit
  19. It is definitely not going where the current amber area is for. The met will have to move it at least 50 miles west, the 6z runs have it needing to move 100 miles its that out of position.
  20. No thank you. Currently predicted to hit us head on, so no more movements allowed
  21. Snowing enough here to already be white over. Given we don't even have a warning at all for us, then its unexpected.
  22. Exactly. The Mod thread for times when the south might get snow is almost best ignored, as its very 'schizophrenic' and unreadable if you don't know the particular commenter's. If anything the GFS output is slightly better for the North, shorter term as would mean massive snowfalls later next week.
  23. You will be very lucky / unlucky for that to happen. The pattern that seems to be forming will produce a snow event of some sort at some point next week, irrespective of the convective snow.
  24. Heavy snow here. Looking at the Radar, its going to get even heavier - Western Pennines are going to get a pasting.
  25. Look earlier, it flips it goes through a spell of rain for a few hours before. NMM seems to be going for a with height only event - which is tbh what its likely to be, but those with height could really get a lot.
