  1. Thought would have been here by now, but it is really hard to judge its progression SE via the radar. Had 1cm of snow last night, all from that heavy shower that started at 21:30
  2. Might want to keep an eye on the radar tonight of you on the western edges of the region / high Pennines, as heavy showers are looking possible. Snow showers are likely to stay that way for the next few days irrespective of the front(s) tomorrow. Met Office web site now has us listing as Heavy Snow from 9pm tonight, due to this shower activity. Won't get much into the region but they usually make it to Bradford.
  3. Just to show you the difference being on the top of the Pennines makes in this setup - 20 miles between Oldfield and Leeds.
  4. Personally I reckon Thursday won't happen, or won't be any significance. Monday night / Tuesday even though it is going low it seems that it has a secondary front to its north which will affect us. Its on the Fax charts as well, so Met Office seems to think it will happen. Will only bring a few cm's of snow but given the way snow is in the UK you can't really predict it until 24 hours out, so is a wait and see. Guess we will have an idea from tonight's 0z runs.
  5. I guess the websites 10-day forecast is having a issue as currently shows us to have 32mm of precipitation today aka ~30cm of snow. Is just the GFS output but is usually a good guide to fall amounts but that's just loopy totals.
  6. Possibly snowing in Keswick, based on looking at a webcam. Which is interesting given they are not much above sea level, although the webcam's quality is very poor.
  7. Could have sworn it was 2014 aka year of Tour de France, but just checked it was 2013.
  8. Oh and as was putting the last of the animals to bed for the night 10 minutes ago a few flakes of snow fell. No rain. Radar shows it as Sleet, but is expected to be a 'wet' snow affair which usually does show up as sleet. Still expecting it to be the wrong side of marginal here though.
  9. As this pattern is a downgrade for the South, while a upgrade for the North - if you want snow.
  10. Snow coming from that direction is what caused the 2 foot + snow falls in 2014, although that one didn't have as significant impact away from the Pennines. It is kind of the regular way for the Aire Valley High areas to get very high snow totals - the valley itself generally doesn't do that great as it itself is the gap in question
  11. 12z NMM run has it as snow only for western North Yorkshire for tonight's band, rain everywhere else. Its very marginal so will only take a small change for the snow to be extended southwards, likewise for no snow at all in our region. Also the 12z GFS and ICON runs are cracking for our region, especially Pennines. Tons of snow, and starts on Saturday / Sunday so on edge of FI.
  12. Yes. not just that, but its 2 bands. The first arrives tonight, that was projected to be a rain to snow affair, but NMM and Euro4 now have that as being a snow only event on higher ground. The second band comes through before midday tomorrow and is a weaker affair that will linger though to midnight. The second band will be all Snow, maybe even to lower ground away from the coasts. IF that first front is all snow it could mean we have a reasonable depth of snow on higher ground.
  13. Its been doing something here now for 30 minutes, just not really sure its pure snow, more a heavy sleet mix.
  14. Might want to keep a radar page open today. Radar is showing the band is heavier than forecast, with the heaviest possibly heading our way. Could mean a few cm's is possible.
  15. Weather Warning out now for the East Coast -
  16. Met Office web site is listing its going to snow here tomorrow from 2pm till midnight. Its about the only website I trust for snow predictions. Not going to amount to more than a few cm's but still great to see it falling. Also next Tuesday is a big watch, ECM and GFS keep flagging up potential for a significant snow storm, which would be nice.
  17. Sun Meter self build - www.trolver.co.uk/Sun meter.html Hi add a proper link to the above as the space in your address will mess around most browsers (also its not good practice to put spaces in addresses in part due to this). Also this is a good idea but it could be done a lot cheaper via the use of a server to log all the data instead, then all you would need is a Nodemcu (the Arduino copy) and the light detector, assuming you have a good enough WiFi signal. Cost about £5 total, bar housing and USB power supply - you can even solar power the Nodemcu's as they draw so little power but is likely a lot less hassle and cheaper to just site within reach of an electricity socket (e.g. on top of a shed).
  18. Lost power here for an hour and a half. I absolute hate Freezing Rain, it really is the only type of weather that is no fun for anyone and a complete pain to deal with.
  19. Freezing rain here. Everything now has a few mm thick layer of ice. Really not fun, can see a lot of accidents happening because of this and people not paying attention. Met office got it right and if anything might need to upgrade the warning for West Yorkshire / South Yorkshire to be red to try and stop people going out.
  20. The Freezing rain is so far only North of Skipton. Hope it stays that way as it can't do a lot of damage up there.
  21. -1c here now. We are ****ed. I hate Freezing rain, rain/snow mix is falling now but is light enough to not be of an issue once that first band hits then it's going to be a nightmare to deal with the animals.
  22. Freezing Rain at Holmfirth according to the radar. Does look it is going to be Rain / Freezing rain everywhere.
  23. New weather warning for Southern Scotland and it is for the worst combination that can happen, Snow after Freezing Rain.
  24. Met office has updated the warning. Now starts at 13:00, but as they say, Freezing rain pockets will be before then - which is true given the one already on the radar.
  25. Freezing Rain now on radar almost in our region - to the east of Manchester. This is going to be knife edge.
