  1. And as predicted significant flooding all along the Aire valley, 6 flood warnings already for it. Levels in a couple of places are not that far off Boxing day as well, which is a bit surprising as the rainfall this time isn't that much there just isn't anywhere else for it to go but the streams. Its becoming a yearly occurrence.
  2. Probably around the same here, very surprising considering wasn't expecting any. Now I worry though its just going to add to the flooding tomorrow.
  3. Snow is settling here now due to the massive flakes. Unexpected thought wouldn't settle due to all the rain.
  4. Warning issued for Sunday for Rain, covers the Pennines in our region. Was hoping they were going to get this out today as potential for a lot of rain, given there is surface flooding around here today with only these 'small' amounts it shows that there is going to be issues on Sunday. Could well see it upgrading to Amber tomorrow if the high totals keep appearing.
  5. Currently fairly moderate snow here. Not sticking as was sleet for 20 minutes before hand, could show promise for tomorrow. Now turned to heavy and starting to show signs of settling, this is quite bizarre given it wasn't at all forecast.
  6. Met office have moved the Snow warning in effect out of the region, it now only covers Hawes so the few thousand people that live around there might get some. More issue is the wind, the higher res models keep showing the possibility of 80 MPH winds later in the day for the Pennines.
  7. There probably is a clear case for a red warning for around the Bristol Channel (North Devon, Bristol, Swansea/Cardiff). Elsewhere not enough data, so any other red area you would assume they will wait till tonight before issuing.
  8. Already a significant amount of power cuts across the region, not like Arwen but still pretty bad already. Only checked as got another email from Northern power grid, so they must be worried.
  9. First time the top of the scale is hitting the North of England. Its definitely moved North, at least on UKV.
  10. North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire its likely. South Yorkshire / East Yorkshire its more a possible. Dudley has arrived here, strong winds and heavy rain, just in time for the School run
  11. Its going to be more than 'a bit windy' if it goes as per most of the models are predicting, they don't handle 60mph gusts well, never mind the 80+ forecast. Warning out for us now for Friday for Snow and Wind -
  12. Red will be very late tomorrow. Will be the 12z runs that will provide the first pinned down track, as until them the model runs will be running without the storm actual existing. As such going to be after 3pm at the very earliest before any decision over Red's could be made.
  13. This is the big problem with this one. Met Office needs to get the red warning issued on Thursday due to the expected time of day for the storms so schools & businesses etc can take action, but the track likely won't be pined down to within 50 miles till the 12z runs on Thursday, so they may have to issue a red(s) without being fully confident.
  14. Amber Warning now issued for Wednesday / Thursday covers from Harrogate northwards. I expect them to increase the size of the area southwards if it stays as is nearer the time. Also a warning now issued for Friday, but its more a 'we aren't at all certain warning' just potential for extreme winds across England/Wales and Blizzards for Northern England / Scotland.
  15. Potential is putting it mildly. Full blown multi feet blizzard is a possibility, which has come out of nowhere, all be it if it happens will be a 1 or 2 day affair.
  16. Its only mid January! We are only 1/3rd or 1/2th the way through Winter depending on which definition you use. Also the high that is over us will shift at some point in the next couple of weeks, models seem to keep having it go Northwards.
  17. Very heavy cold rain here, which is the worst weather in existence, it has a habit of turning the ground into muddy mush as well. Last night was horrendous here with the Ice where even gritted roads froze over, it was thankfully gone by morning.
  18. Looking on the North Yorkshire Road Cameras only places with a full covering of snow are Cowling and Ribblehead. Settle has some but, guess height was the limiting factor there. Really was a tops of Pennines only event as far as Yorkshire is concerned. Edit: Grassington has a good covering as well, would guess that camera is high up as doesn't look to be in the village.
  19. Only had ~3cm's of it so far here. Bit disappointing given have done well in similar set-ups before.
  20. The heavy stuff has hit here now and its just sleet. Totals for tonight look potentially 10cm's+, could see many schools shutting if it happens given staffing etc at the moment. Especially as it looks like it will just be a pure snow event, so likely to settle.
  21. Been snowing here (with odd change to sleet) now for 45 minutes. Had to make a quick jaunt down to the Aire valley and was nothing but rain down there. If the radar is right it looks a bit heavier than forecast, wouldn't be shocked if the heavy bit is just snow.
  22. The radar is showing false echo's so can't be relied on. People in the North West thread saying its about 30 miles wrong; its also snowing in Liverpool at moment, which is probably a good indicator for prospects here.
  23. FYI there are 2 warnings now for Snow - First one is tomorrow daytime- 10:00 to 16:00 Second is for tomorrow night & Friday- 20:00 to 11:00 Friday First one is Pennines only, other one is bigger and touches Sheffield and Leeds. The new first ones text -
