  1. The area for the Warning only covers the Western parts of North and West Yorkshire, so its likely you will miss out. Touch and go for us here, as we are at 350m height, so we should get it but with these kinds of setups it can be different than forecast. Its been light sleeting here today, so already had the first 'sign' of the white stuff.
  2. Storm has picked up here now. Our weather station is playing up so no readings, but wind speeds seem to be in the ~70mph area as predicted, maybe more as Bingley which is lower level than us recorded in the 60mph range already. Got to go out in it once it stops sounding like a train to check on our livestock, going to be fun
  3. Quite worrying as that is a bit on the early side for such a strong gust, might be even stronger to come in the next 2 hours.
  4. Forecaster on the BBC said expect maybe more than 100mph winds on Anglesey - good luck Salopwatcher and anyone else unfortunately enough to be there.
  5. We are also due to get ~70mph based on the MetOffice site and we are 30 miles inland on the N.Yorks Lancashire border. This really has potential to be damaging over a lot of the North of England. Stay safe all, and prepare! Already checked all our trees and buildings to ensure they should be safe, but who knows.
  6. We have had the worst rainfall we have ever experienced here. Got some neighbouring properties flooded, believe some of the main roads are partially flooded and our dam (small dam only 2 meters high 5 meters wide) is in danger of failing as the water is topping it by over a cm across the whole length. We have had some bad rainfalls before but this one has been the worst by a notable margin. At least looking at the radar it should end in about an hour, so will give us a bit of respite before the next band hits.
  7. Thought had 30c and above temps, and might have done at one point today but looks like the temp sensor is going kaput. Its in the shade yet is recording now 34c, and keeps increasing, yet 2 old analog sensors are saying temp is about 27c. Seems we have our first casualty due to the hot weather Funny the temps it was saying were matching up to the normal bulb thermometer near the house until at least 2pm.
  8. In case you guys aren't aware seems like many people in the US are getting very worried about today. Seems like a few of the pro's are saying this has all the patterns to be a repeat of the May 3rd 1999 outbreak. Going to be watching this one tonight, as its got potential for a lot of trouble, and maybe something historic. Good luck those of you out there in it.
  9. Heavy to moderate snow here at the moment. Been snowing all morning here, but mostly light. Still many of the roads round here are still 1 lane including one of the main trans-pennine A roads. Saw 2 plow vans parked off the A road next to the stretch where its 1 lane and you could see they couldn't figure out how to shift it, well given its higher than their vans in parts its not surprising they are struggling!
  10. Its not just cattle feed its dead animals. I know of 2 farmers who have lost over a dozen sheep. Also heard from our Vet that many farmers are having to order skips they have that many carcasses to get rid of. If we get another bout like the last one it could well leave a permanent scar on livestock farming in the North UK. Thankfully the models are showing (bar one run a day ago) that the north will be largely unaffected by the Easter storm. Way its looking this Easter storm is the last dangerous pattern as nothing even in deep FI has thrown up anything that is anywhere near a repeat of last weekend.
  11. Ok that's a first. Our milk mans delivered the snow on Sledges
  12. O this is the worst we have had it. We have had more snow than this (the 12 hour spell a few weeks ago brought more for instance) but the drifting has just made this killer. We have lost at least 2 animals due to it. Its bizarre we have had drifting snow before but never like this, in places its scoured the snow clean off the ground and you can even see the grass but then a few meters away where there is just the smallest ridge in the field there is a 3 foot+ pile of snow along the whole field. Highest drift is about 5 foot, total accumulation is easily over 20 cm's exact amount is hard to tell but only place that has been remotely sheltered by the wind that has snow on it - a stone bird table - has about 25 cm's on it. And even though the snow isn't falling much now the wind is still shifting it all about, and will probably continue to do for next 48 hours.
  13. Its the Keighley Snow shield Just go up on the hills they are plastered. We aren't that far from you and we have had none stop snow now since (at a guess) 4 am. Depth is unknown as I am not going out in it till morning, but is past 10cm's. Given the signs (and the METO) indicate this going to go till at least the crack of dawn there's going to be at least the 20 cm's as predicted. Looking at the radar there's got to be some places in South Sheffield that will be getting a massive total of snow, as seems to be constant 'heavy' intensity there.
  14. I am up the hills a few miles to the south of you nearest place to our farm forms part of my name We are 200m higher than Skipton so very different conditions than what goes on in the Aire valley.
  15. Now getting the first sizable flakes of the day, about 5 mm big. Already got 10 cm on the ground.
  16. Getting intense again here, it seems to be coming in off the Irish sea, the front isonly moving 10 miles an hour eastwards so its really hard to notice the movement but its there.
  17. Yeh seems like its moving in a ENE direction now, guess a few hours and will be on us at the rate its going.
  18. Getting heavy here, and we are getting it once it clears the Manchester snow shield. In someway surprised you are all disappointed as you must all know Manchester and its surrounds just don't get snow. But be positive this is only the start based on the radar and will be going on for another 24 hours.
  19. Starting to get heavy here, looks like its cleared the Manchester Snow shield and is now intensifying again.
  20. Thats what the METO fax charts were showing they expect it to do, and it looks on track to. Going to be a 'fun' day if it does.
  21. Ok its silly out there. Already got 1 foot drifts with about 5cm covering on flat ground, but its really difficult to really get a true amount. Really horrible out there.
  22. One thing most of you seem to be overlooking is the wind speeds. 60 mph gusts seem likely here, and given that the models are still predicting very high snow fall totals (6h NAE says the worst places hit are NI, then followed by the NW, with the Pennines areas of Yorkshire doing as 'badly') its going to be very dangerous. Will be surprised if the METO don't issue a Red Warning tonight for NI and the Western slopes of the Pennine's as there will be loss of life if people try and carry on as if its a normal day when there's a major blizzard going on. /edit: Typed that before that post appeared This really does have the makings of a historic storm, and hope the general populace start to realize it and not just people who follow the weather.
  23. Been snowing since about 7:30 here, but before that it was sleet / rain and the ground as a result is very wet. Its settling though on most grass, but looking at the radar wont be long before we start to get some more intense snow and that might make it settle elsewhere.
  24. Final totals for the storm have been published by the US NWS http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=OKX&product=PNS Hamden got the highest at 40" Honestly if you have the time have a look at some US based forums as some of the pictures from the region are astounding (e.g. snow depth higher than their post boxes)
  25. About the same for me (Temp 1.5c, have no dewpoint reading though). Looking at the radar will be hitting here some time between 01:00 and 02:00. Although not heavy as the radar shows its very light in intensity.
