  1. Mets already issued a warning for that - in the form of heavy rain - 15-25mm's. If that happens flooding will be widespread anywhere there is still snow. In many ways got to hope it falls as snow, as almost a foot of snow we could deal with, but flooding and then it freezing in the night would really break the country. Forgot to say, been snowing here now for 1 hour and a half, mostly moderate but was heavy for 20-30 minutes and is now starting to calm down back to moderate / almost light. Not left much extra snow though - only a cm at most.
  2. Its doing that here and settling on the snow cover. Gives a really wierd feeling when you see a area where the snow has been cleared, but yet now its far more dangerous than the areas with snow! Given we have cleared a path outside our back door it makes it a bit difficult to get out the house.
  3. Given I am near you - they may be bizarrly right! Its been snowing here now for an hour - and very large flakes, although now down to 2mm sized ones. The snow storm, looking at radar, literally formed right on top of us, and appears to also be raining / snowing now near Leeds through to Hull.
  4. Currently about 5-6cm's of snow here, but its still snowing (small flakes but very fast falling). The local Primary took the decision to shut just at start of school time.. While the local high school of which most get bus'ed in is staying open - in the shear hope that some of the buses can make it. Really does seem like everythings starting to breakdown now.
  5. Fast falling but 2/3mm sized flakes here for the past 20-30 minutes, looks like its going to be a interesting night. Already looks like close to a cm of new snow going on the car treads outside our farm.
  6. East Yorkshire folks - the radar is indicating that its turned to sleet over you instead of rain? is this true? Temp is 0c / Dew is -2c here so should be snow when it gets here / if this band gets here.
  7. Odd given raintoday has it correctly as rain, I would of thought they used the same met feed / met doing the processing of the feed.
  8. No snow for 2 days, but since last night been snowing on and off. not heavy, but light with big flakes already added about 2 cm's based on foot depth. God I love easterlys - hopefully it stays and gets stronger as is forecast as I need my snow fix.
  9. You sure he didn't just nick a picture from Canada via google Really impressive snow fall for the UK, especially given their height, etc.
  10. Our First proper Blizzard of the year I knew that it was going to be heavy from the radar but this is a true white out here at the moment. Have cancelled my appointment this afternoon, silly to go with the roads the way they are unless I really really need to.
  11. Been snowing now for 30 minutes, and sort of heavy. These bands that are coming down from the North seem like they could dump a fair bit of snow today. Given I was expecting today to be largely snow free this is a bit of a surprise - and a bad one as I need to get out today
  12. Paul Hudson believes its going to start to intensify for us starting tomorrow afternoon/evening and the snow should start to reach the Pennines then. The snow should be back properly though for everyone on Thursday IF that easterly comes like it seems to be. Will probably cover Lancashire pretty well it will be that strong never mind Yorkshire.
  13. They pulled it this morning as many people are accessing the site and it forced them to make the site as minimal as possible to keep it from crashing.
  14. But it looks like these ones are going at an angle and have sufficent intesity to get far inland. Yorks kind of an easy target given the snow could come from the North all the way round to the ESE, while the current wind direction means these could get down to the North parts of West Yorkshire - with a bit of luck
  15. Interesting stuff seems to be happening in the North Sea. That first band thats about to hit Harrogate looks like the start of a streamer, guess some places in land are going to have a fun night as well, and not just the east coast.
  16. Its Bizzare. We have had snow again now for the past half hour, not heavy, although its not light either and its getting heavier not lighter. Gievn it stoped snowing about 2 hours ago here, and there was nothing on the radar to indicate we might have got this coming back on us. Something odd might be happening.
  17. Its starting to go light here, so went outside and measured it via a tape measure (dont have a ruler so can't get an accurate measure) 17 - 18cm deep! The Pennines are great
  18. Same here. Problem seems to be the roads are getting grid locked early so the bus companies cancelled, which has forced all the schools to close. Snow status - weare only a couple of inches off one of the markers I used for the pre Christmas snow. Which means its got to be at or about 15 cm's at a minimum now - and its STILL heavy snowing. Wish I had a water proof camera as would make great photos.
  19. Its still snowing heavy here and its over the 10cm mark already, and the radar kind of indicates we got a few more hours of it at least yet. God I do love living rural on the Pennines <_<
  20. Just checked and on a wall thats not properly exposed to the North and its about 8cm's there. Got to go on the fields in a bit to do the morning routine, so will see how much we truelly have then. This really isn't letting up here so expect it to get a lot higher in the southern areas.
  21. Morning snow watchers According to the radar, it has only been snowing here for past hour, yet on what was a clear car last night we have at least 3 cm's of snow already, can't tell how much on the actual land as no reliable reference point.
  22. Mets Issued a warning for the Pennines Yorkshire Areas - Yorkshire & Humber: S Yorkshire W Yorkshire Heavy Snow & Widespread Icy Roads 2157 Mon 4 1200 Tue 5 Showers of sleet or snow will fall onto sub zero surfaces, leading to widespread ice on untreated surfaces. In addition, snow showers are likely to become heavy at times, with the potential for an additional 3 to 6 cm, and locally 8 to 10 cm, especially over higher ground. The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads. Issued at: 2159 Mon 4 Jan
  23. Looks like it might sort of get your way The center of this band has gone west / south of us and hit colne. If it stays on the track will hit Huddersfield, then if it doesn't die out (which it probably will) then will hit Sheffield.
  24. Got side tracked, but has been snowing here for past 30 minutes. Its not big flakes but seems to be coming down at speed, can't tell how much has accumilated though due to the existing snow.
  25. That's currently on track to hit me right dead center If it keeps some intensity then it could be a great start to the night.
