  1. Honestly we are going to get something out of this weekend, and I think I now know why the Mets website is now saying Heavy snow for my location from Saturday evening yet its not on any of the models. Think the convection is going to start about then. The positioning of the low will mean moderate easterly winds will start about then, and as soon as they do the North Sea train will begin. If the easterly's start by then would have some serious snow fall from the showers that get created.
  2. Ok, this is odd. Just checked latest Met office local forecast and they are now saying heavy snow for all of Saturday afternoon and Evening, as well as Heavy snow for Sunday. This has changed since this morning. It cant be from the current band as that would be well out the way by then, so I wonder what data / run its coming from as I haven't seen any run suggesting snow around those times, never mind heavy.
  3. Its moved 10 miles since 8 am, and given the models got its current progress very wrong, the odds of it starting to move our way do not look good. Still all could change as after all its snow and nobody knows what its going to do, but the current observations don't look good for us.
  4. Nothing on the last NAE for Sunday Morning. But it does show that South Yorkshire could be in for a lot of snow in the next 24 hours. The accumulations (don't believe the amounts, but its a guide) say 15 cm's for South Yorkshire by Midday tomorrow. Although given they have it wrong even at T3 hours, with it saying snow should be over most of Yorkshire when its not even reached here yet, never mind 2 and half hours ago.
  5. haha paul kept the snow on my location at all times, and was heavy most of the time. Only drops back from the coast to pennines then comes back, seems like hes edging towards the models and not the met.
  6. NMM 12z is rolling out and seems to have the snow further Eastwards, although still keeping it as snow in the far south as well.
  7. Its Expanding West wards mostly but its expanding everywhere, as the main front from the West is approaching its causing the band that is over Sheffield to increase in intensity, just watch the radar for the past few hours for the North of the UK, and you will get the jist of it, and why the Met has just put South and West Yorkshire on Heavy Snow for tonight.
  8. Yeah same here. Watch the track on the Met office Rainfall radar and you can see why (use that one as its the most clear on the pattern that is forming). Seems like 2 fronts are colliding and its gaining in intensity where its happening. Seems like a line from Blackburn / Burnley down to Leicester is where its going to be the heaviest with anywhere 50-100 miles around it hit, and maybe hard as its already throwing up already moderate falls as both fronts expand due to the collision.
  9. The UKMO at 96 is interesting to say the least! Is this possible? It seems odd they way it stretches the low in such a short time frame from T60.
  10. Yeh it seems to have created 2 fronts, one which is stalling over the SW and Irish sea the other is over Yorkshire / Linconshire south down to Essex. This is completely bizarre, and differs massively from the Met predictions. edit: I imagine the met are going to be annoyed with that run as the area that they put in Amber warning in the south, has hardly any precipitation and on the coast is only rain.
  11. If i remember right the biggest band of snow in dec 2010 was very much like this, red area was west of London, ended up being South of there by a considerable amount, and a lot of areas got more or less than predicted only 12 hours before. Snow really is a now cast event.
  12. Can trump you on that the Met is current saying for my location Snow from 1800 Thursday through to the end of Monday when it ends forecasting. It will be VERY interesting if that pays off even with it being light snow.
  13. How odd. I am not that far from you relatively (15-20 miles) yet we are onto our 3rd ice day, and temps now at -1c. Just shows what effect the height and being just that bit more away from the coast does.
  14. If that came off here we would be having about a foot of snow just from Friday, as that angle of attack is about the worst for this area due to the 2 main valleys running along that line. Every time it comes from that angle we always get big snowfall, even from streamers never mind this deep front.
  15. Low temp of -8.6c here last night, and its been hovering around -4c all morning. Wonder if will manage to get to the high heights of -2c at all today.
  16. Its -6.6c here already, makes me worry what the temp is going to drop to tonight, especially given tomorrow night could be even lower.
  17. Its already a problem for us. Having to use crampons to get round the fields as a lot of the snow has already turned to ice. We are kind of used to it here though, hence the reason why we even have crampons
  18. Still going heavy here, expecting based on the radar track we have another hour and half / 2 hours of it. Between 4-5 cm's in depth here at the moment, so its unlikely to get to the 10 cm's but wont be that far off it.
  19. Trust me, here it will be close to 10 cm's by the time it finishes; but it wont be everywhere under the orange warning area that will be seeing this intensity. The radar track seems to indicate anything from Skipton down to maybe Sheffield will be getting the hardest hit, North of there and it seems the band has thinned a bit out.
  20. Its only meant to deliver 2-5 cm's at low levels and 10cm's at high levels. Based on rate its falling here (about 350m asl) I would say those estimates seem to be spot on.
  21. Heavy stuff has started here, so this band can deliver as its falling (at a guess) about 2-3 cm's an hour, real white out.
  22. Still snowing here, now over 2 hours of it. Its still light falls, but its all adding up and is about half a cm, maybe more. Guess this little band could well give us a few cm's before the nights over, given its going to go on till about midnight looking at the radar. Its become a nice starter to the main course of tomorrow
  23. Its been snowing here now for about past 30 minutes, so its not far away for you Bradford / Leeds lot, its just slow moving. Its that intense but already a covering on the fields.
  24. This first main band seems to be coming here faster than predicted, and looks to be hitting here about 2 pm ish (if it keeps coming at this rate). Wasn't expecting the snow fall till after dark so this will make a pleasant surprise, but means have to get all my jobs on the land done in the next 3 hours.
  25. SNOW finally - but its here with a revengance already 3 cm's in less than 20 minutes. Thanks to the Freezing rain we had since about 1:30 / 2pm it has instantly settled Amazing really as the temp has only droped from 0.1 to be -0.1 and straight switch to snow instead of rain Location btw: Is south of Skipton, is really amazing what just a few miles north means in terms of it snowing since afternoon.
