have to say this Norwester is stronger than most things we have felt through the winter period

Today wad probably one of the most surreal days in a while. Temp in car on way to whitstable comfortable 19 degrees all the way. Arrived in whitstable to be met by gale force winds wild horses across the sea and a but of crabbing fun lol. Earliest one of the season but a lot of fun. I tell you Kathleen is packing a punch next to the bridge. Very impressive feature this.

Have only checked gfs so far and Met Office app, neither super reliable!
Read the thread on Isha that looks horrible. And we will be the last to get it. A few knowledgeable posters posting in there. Wind speed could be a real concern by Sunday evening.

Morning all, again.
Shall I really jinx our Snow chances next Week, by attempting the foolhardy Synoptic "pattern matching".
The Synoptic chart on the left, is from Tues. 8th December, 1981.
As I'm an old f--t, I remember the December 18981 event, vividly.
I lived in Camberwell S.E. London. at the time. Heavy Rain transitioned to heavy Snow, during the early Morning Rush Hour, and even though Camberwell is an Inner London location and the ground was very wet from the heavy Rain that had been falling for a couple of hours, surprisingly the Snow settled quickly once the intensity kicked in.
It still remains the "best" Rain > Snow event, I've witnessed. This surge of bitter Arctic air that Morning was the catalyst for ushering in the very Wintry December, of 1981.
On the right, is the European [ECMWF] Model as it sees the Synoptic situation in the late Morning, next Tuesday [16th]:
There you go, I've really jinxed our Region's Snow chances, now!!
Regards,
Tom Q.
Mate do you remember the snow depth cup. That was always such fun

Latest in MAD thread: UKMO - stunning (lots of tongues hanging from mouths, smiling heart shaped eyes emojis) - GFS - 'bin it' 'what's it doing' (just the other day posters salivating over it). You couldn't make it up...could be GEM's turn tomorrow for much love as UKMO is given the boot!
It's nuts. I always dip out after morning wake up. Return after work and gauge how much .... has been spoken. Today it was 23 pages between 7am and now. It is such a fun game to play

Some are setting themselves up for a HUGE fall if this cold spell doesn't come off in the MAD thread...reading through a few posts - 'northern blocking galore' 'ensembles are amazing' etc. etc. and we're talking near 10 days away from the majority of charts being shown for anything significant, still to pin point where HP settles at the weekend.
I'm getting some giant Pat Jennings size gloves to catch the toys so I can pass them onto my grandkids next Xmas
Don't forget the all important prozac

Well its teasing here near the Bridge... guess a little bit too close to the estuary. Nice to see anyway and I really do believe that this winter has all the hallmarks of being something absolutely epic. We need all the players to be in our favour but to see a vortex not where it should be and all that figid air locked up in the Scandi lets see Fingers crossed.
intensity increasing now
