But it’s not consistent to be frank. Most gust charts are max gust in 3hrs period. It has to be called out. I’m not taking away from the seriousness of the damage and mayhem this is likely to cause, but I’ve noticed folk seem to be taking gust charts as sustained wind forecast. It’s the world we live in I know.

Agree however we have a sustained wind speed of 34 mph over a four hour period with gusts upwards of 70+ mph.

Timing could be a major factor. To the west t will be rush hour when the worst of the winds hit whereas in the east it will be late morning. Less people on the road

Thats utterly ridiculous sorry. A lot of schools are not on half term in the east and southeast. 60-70mph winds is not nice at anytime. Especially in Central London. Me in Welling still qt 74 my on xc weather and 71 on met office app

    Then you are lucky.

What shall we do? Rebuild our houses because they ‘haven’t been built very well’? Maybe a wall collapsing onto a child, roofs being ripped off completely and deposited into the street. Maybe people being without power for 10 days?

It’s all happened locally to me since the end of November. Some of the damage still hasn’t been repaired. This was from wind gusting between 60-70mph.

Just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened elsewhere!

Yup wall blew down near me in about 45mph winds 2 years ago.

I think some people are exaggerating the severity a little bit. Yes 90mph + would be quite damaging but it's much more likely that gusts will peak around 70 - 80mph inland if that. It might be unusual for some places but you're not going to suffer severe damage from winds in that range, well not unless a tree hits your property...

Erm try the burns day storm... try it being in the daytime and numerous other factors. Central London hit by 75mph gusts even 70mph gusts will be dangerous. The track and the depth have hardly changed in last 24 hours. As was said above we are t72 hours. On the scale of warnings. I don't remember one that has fallen into the yellow category that one movement will be into Amber. Over doing it I don't think so. My mum lives on a hill 750 ft up so I am watching it closely
