  1. There may be something for NE areas Monday night as a LP centre passes down the North Sea. The FAX charts show a front passing so Aberdeen would be favoured for this, but perhaps some areas further south could benefit.
  2. LSS, the forecast is very good as ever. Hopefully things will develop as predicted and there will be many snowy days spent on this thread exchanging imfo again as the past 2 winters have been. Hope everyone here is keeping well. I shall now vanish back into the shaddows till the real cold is developing!!
  3. Amazing........Scotland has been in freeze since December. Wonder of we will see any more flakes before the summer starts to kick in. I would think there will be skiing at Cairngorm into June now. Unfortunatley, unless things have changed, Glenshee has to close down shortly after Easter due to conservation. They will be sick as will probaly still have most runs complete. A huge amount of snow this year will survive the summer, as some of the gullies must have rediculous amounts of snow in them. Anyone have any idea of these depths. Some must 50ft deep perhaps more. Also this site, although quieter now has been heaps of fun. Lets hope it all kicks off again earl December............only 9 months of fun in the sun to go.
  4. Yeh, luckily I am outside Monifieth as you head North. This moves me few miles from the direct coast and gives me a little hieght. Amazing the differance as between the beach and here at times. Still I wish my house was nearer Gairngorm!! I saw pictures yesterday from Aviemore mid week. Our friends were waist deep in snow. That was level snow not drifrts. Will try and get the picts.
  5. Still something blowing in the wind, but light now. I agree its going south. Slight clearance north of Dundee. Even the low hills are white. Will update if more sleet/wet snow follows. Later in the week has potential, but may well be that the HP spoils the fun for us in the north ???
  6. Wet snow here. A little on the grass and my car. Better than nothing. Anyone with some hieght will be whaite again !!
  7. Great photo. Was that all from last night? We got nout
  8. One last blast perhaps before summer........still fairly far out though. Not herd that word for a few years......"stoater"
  9. I know exectly what this will be like on the coast..........wet and very cold again But this wont be cold and wet.........
  10. Agree with this analysis, LS. Shift the jetstream and you change everything: low pressure systems meandering about all over the British Isles (wandering the "wrong" way east to west, etc) in a continuing pool of of very cold air thanks to blocking, instead of the usual default of mild SWerlies, gales and constant rain. Slack flow from said lows giving the sort of settled weather that you've normally associate with high pressure over these islands. Brilliant stuff. What has been truly notable about this winter has been the total dearth of any gales since the original blocking kicked in back in December and also any truly mild temps (i.e. above 10°C - we've had one day that managed this since mid-December). Personally, I've loved it. I really thought a winter like this one was beyond us and I'm so glad that it isn't. A blip or a trend? BFTP (and others) has posted on this frequently in the TOORP thread and the technical TOORP thread and is convinced that the jet going south is a long term pattern change. It's early days, but I tend to agree with this - this type of winter (though not perhaps its severity) could become the norm. Unfortunately, it is likely also to mean a greater number of rubbish summers (i.e. cool and unsettled) so it's a bit of a curate's egg. It looks like more of a 1960s/1980s long term pattern has kicked in and on previous form this could last for a couple of decades - just as the M****n W****r did... (wonder how Ian Brown's book is going?). As ever though, time will tell and the weather will do what it wants.
  11. Morning all. Been up in Aberdeen all week and never had a chance to look through the forum. Did anyone get any of the really deep snow, or did we all sufer from from wet slushy stuff. Aberdeen was was under a few inches of slush. Hidious. But some of my work friends from outside town were talking of 12 - 15". They are only 45 mins outside town. Had a brief look at the charts and looks to stay quite cold. Perhaps another fall before we start to warm up ???? Enjoy the snow in Fife today.
  12. Yeh these are very clever weather systems that can lines themselfes up exactly on the border and not cross them. If you stood there, you could be in heavy snow, take a step to the left and be out of it. Amazing !!
  13. Overcooked is the understatement of the winter. We are forecast to have 60 hours of snow from late Wednesday to Friday. If that fell at 1" an hour, we would have 10ft of level snow and I guess with the Easterly winds of 38 - 70 mph, drifts will be around 40 - 50ft deep . Not really that likely, or am I being pesasimistic (where is spell check when needed)
  14. Morning chaps...........correct-a-moondo.......its baltic this morning. Everything frozen solid for the last 2 days really. Charts look very good this morning for mega snow event later in the week, but couple of boring days to start with. We may be lucky later today and get a few showers onto the coast as a little wind develops from the east.
  15. The Atlantic is well and truely broken this year. We have not had anything significant for months off the Atlantic. Thats very unusual. Basically the whole of winter and no Atlantic. Wonder how the summer would be if it never returned ??
  16. Anyone want to place a bet on how long before this chart vanishes to never never land ??
  17. Looks like a dry and cold few days coming up?? I thought there was maybe something for Sunday, but that all looks to be going further south
  18. In practice for our snow chasing in the States next year, you should travel to Aberdeen. Twice this week there has been onions loads of snow up there or at least while on route!!
  19. YEh still snowing a little. Is there a feature heading for us on Sunday? Beeb seems to be toying with this idea
  20. Yeh we have some heavy snow now. But WOW.........Just back from Aberdeen..........4" fell in about 2-3 hours over lunch today. Town turned to gridlock, which is annoying but the snow was very impresive!!! Are we in for an evening of NE winds ???
  21. Just back from Aberdeen. Very heavy snow between Laurencekirk and Stonehaven this morning. Single track with lorries unable to get up the hills. Did not expext that. Only a few cms when I left my house. Is there not some hope of a little more snow late Friday, going into Saturday. Not been looking at many charts latley as was getting bit boring, but that was some snow this morning Interest reinstalled!
  22. Yeh and looking at the radar, you are not even in the main band, just a small fragment........gonna get intresting up there tomorrow. My journey home from Dyce may be fun!!
