That's good news then. When does the chance of the showers feeding in start? Straight after the front moves through?
-
Are the uppers even sufficient for snow in the next couple of days. The word marginal comes into my mind, or 'over highest ground' ie Staffs moorlands, peak district etc.
-
Fingers crossed for something wintry, thought I shant be excited until I see it falling out of the sky (not being pessmistic - just that's the way it is here).
Anyone reckon a few showers could make it accross later on tonight and into the early hours of the morning?
-
North or South stoke?
-
Just rain here gents.
-
bit of a non event here. Strong-ish winds and a 5 minutes period of heavy rain. No wintry possibilities now, so we're in for a clear and boring night. Pahh, boring year so far.
-
Hopefull we get some decent winds tommorow to keep the weather interesting, otherwise it looks like we're heading for another boring period.
-
Looks like another 'close but no cigar' job then.
-
Do we think showers could slowly start flirting with us as early as this time tommorow? Whether that be over manchester, north Derbyshire etc or wherever.
-
Exactly Eugene. I do think some are setting themselves up for a bit of a fall here. There's not a great deal of signs promoting proper snow here. Im personally at quite a low height also, so anything that falls here wil most likely be sleet at best - im expecting rain though to be honest.
-
Like i said yesterday, still very skeptical about actually getting any snowfall. I can see precisely whats happened this week re-occuring. Showers with a bit of a westerly element instead of the NW we need for the cheshire gap to truly fire up, thus pushing showers over the north moorlands peaks and north Derbyshire etc. Hope im wrong though.
-
No surprise to see things downgrade in snow terms as we get closer to the event. I'll be surprised if we see falling flakes from the sky. I suppose night time would be the best time for snow.
-
I can see the anvil outside my back window for the shower currently passing through the Stafford area. Its going to just miss here. The shower feeds from the west and nw aren't looking great now so id expect this little batch of showers to be the most significant PPN of the night.
-
Not gonna be much if anything for staffs tonight. Pretty much dead in the gap of the irish sea we should be looking at,
-
Feels very cold now the front has come and gone through. Certainly for a wintry mix.
-
Are the -5 uppers going to make it this far south? If so what time are they making there way down?
-
Precip has got a few sleety bits in now.
-
We'l soon see. Be nice if we can get a couple of heavier showers this far south.
-
Yep im up in rugeley. Reckon we've got a chance of anything notable? Slight covering etc?
-
Haha fair enough. Dont reckon many showers will make it this far south then?
-
You staying up for a radar watch tonight Blizzard?
-
Am i missing something in thinking that im in a good place to get rained on tonight. All forecasts maps, BBC rain radar and tonights radar seem to suggest we're in line for a couple of hours of heavy rain. But other close midlanders aren't so keen on the idea?
-
So as per, the central midlands is too far north for any action. Whether it be snow, rain, wind, hail, thunder, lightning we miss out by a whisker in every single direction available. Its the same with snow, too far inland for streamers with a northerly, too far north, too far south, too far inland from the east. Now its too far north west for bloody rain! How boring. IM moving.
PS - good look to thoose south easteners.
-
Nice little storm just passed over Brownhills heading towards Lichfield way! Few rumbles and the odd bit of lighting. Any more coming??
I think im just on the northern edge of that. Not got any lightning or thunder, but its darker over Lichfield. We're right on the edge of the cloud base. Its probably isn't raining 2 miles north of here.

Any ideas on the timescale we should be looking west for the wintry showers to get going?
