  1. Talking about a bad way to talk to staff.....i recall last winter one of the senior members in the dept taking a telephone call from a member of staff having trouble getting in as she lived 15 miles away in the snow covered valleys. I overheard the call clearly and was astonished to hear the senoir memeber of staff tell the caller that the snow had stopped outside our office and to make her way in ASAP, little did the caller know it was snowing heavy outside and I looked at the senior memeber with amazememnt and she looked back at me and placed her finger over her mouth as if to say ' shhh' ........now that's bad. it's amazing what some people will say to make sure staff get in because the numbers needed making up because of business needs ! the Governement sucks If only I could 'whistleblow' everything I know. I'd get locked up though because there'd be uproar
  2. i think this time they may be on about the potential storm on Sunday into Monday. i thought at first it was issued mainly toawrds people who live in the North of the Uk but apparently this issue warning was for our region of South Wales. So the strongs winds I suppose may well could cause disruption to travel with fallen trees and flooding with heavy rainfall. Anyway, all in all, still intersting that a Government dept has already been told of forthcoming weather problems so early into the winter.
  3. This 'bad weather reminder' has been sent out to all DWP staff accross the UK. This normally happens when the weather starts to turn more wintry. It seems very early this year and all the staff are wondering why......normally this weather reminder gets sent out when wintry conditions are imminant.....what do they know ? this is what was sent out For cascade to All Staff Bad Weather Reminder When bad weather has caused disruption you are expected to make every effort to report for duty at your normal place of work, this includes considering alternative transport options. This means using public transport where possible or even linking up with other staff who live near you. Colleagues who pass on a main transport route may also be able to support your journey to work. Every effort should be made prior to the disruption to limit the impact on your normal travel arrangements. This could mean parking your car more appropriately or allowing extra time for your journey. If no other transport is available people who live within 1 hour walking distance of their normal place of work or their nearest office (which could be any DWP office i.e. Pension Centre, JCP, DCS etc.), will have to report for duty as normal.
  4. I think I'll print that out and stick it on the back of my car.....ty
  5. I've put in a coal fire and I'm anjoying every bit of smoke and spitting wood you can imagine. I've decided to warm up the living room more this year than warming up the whole house. A cold upstairs is a healthy one. If you wake up with a warm nose then it's not healthy. Cold noses and ice inside the windows is a must. Coal is £60 for a 1/4 tonne here and I've been using logs as well and my stock is going down too. Need to get stocked up with more fuel for the winter. Not prepared to pay £28 a week like last winter. Cost me a fortune. I'd rather pay that amount and a little more if need be and have a roaring fire in the room. You just can't beat it. ( tis crackiling away as we speak ) and, the ground floor of the house is still warm in the morning and no need for the heating to go on to take the chill off. The 2 cats and 2 dogs love it and the kids and other 'alf are getting used to it slowly, they;ve never had an open fireplace or even seen fire before in a house ! Cold weather bring it on, gales and power cuts, deep snow and blocked roads, fire blazing.....I will stay warm even if I have to burn my collection of books.
  6. I didn't find it offensive. Mad me laugh. It was something said 'off the cuff' - isn't anyone free these days for a little humour ? A relative of mine was once sectioned under the mental health act and escaped during the time only to be found 'scuttling' down the road a mile away in a pair of fluffy slippers and a pink dressing gown..... Using 'flogging' as a phrase in a sentence isn't really appropriate and to wish that upon someone then perhaps it's yourself who should consider the choice of words more wisely also. This is a nice place - let's keep it that way. please. I didn't find it offensive. Mad me laugh. It was something said 'off the cuff' - isn't anyone free these days for a little humour ? 7. The word 'Mild' may distract viewers...I have heard we've got snow on Sunday and into next week....so where's the 'welsh cold spell discussion'? It's going to 'bwrw' 'hen wragedd a ffin' for some days then 'eira' galore...not sure of your translation in the thread title lol and for those of you who don't know...'hen wragedd a ffin' means 'old women and sticks' a welsh term for raining cats and dogs and 'eira' is snow I'm keeping optimistic about the ( welsh ) weather turning cold again, it was even mentioned in tonights 1030pm forecast on BBC1 when the cold moves south again.... will sit here and wait for my snowstorm, only had 11 inches of lying snow at any one time this winter...not enough for me ! Cwmbran 150m asl
  8. Everything white here in Upper Cwmbran currently 0.4C and snowing heavy. Looks like stopping within the hour as front moves on Cwmbran 150 m asl #
  9. This frontal system seems a little later than forecast because it won't hit Cwmbran until about 1130 ish.... It's also going to come up against very cold air, we're currently at 1.2C here in upper Cwmbran and had quite a few snow flurries this morning. I know that the front is going to head north as the day progresses but it has to get passed south wales first.. Interesting different forecasts about. Radio Wales saying some real significant snow where it snows lasting into the afternoon.... I'm now on 'dark shady area 'watch because the lamp posts are no good in the daylight Good luck all...even if it is only a brief snowspell...lots of rain to come for the reats of the week but things looking complicated on Sunday...worth watching Cwmbran 150m asl West Pontnewydd 5 miles east of newport
  10. Snowing here in Cwmbran - only light though, in fact it's been snowing lightly practically since I went to bed at 1am The snow is blowing about a lot and I guess we'e had about a centimetre overall but still looks pretty. Looking at the radar, we've been just on the edge of nothingness most of the night so it's not amounted to anything nevertheless eerything is white including the pavements. Interesting few days coming up....snow tomorrow afternoon possbily for here to ? Cwmbran 150m asl currently 0.1C light snow and windy
  11. temps in Cwmbran not as cold as last night, they were at -0.3C this time last night with a white frost over cars and pavements. All paths and roads and cars are wet outside..no frost in sight.....there's still time for cold to dig in that will help if the front comes our way.....fingers crossed. Cwmbran 150m asl
  12. Flurrying here in Cwmbran, started to cover sme left over snow ( from the shadey areas ) but hasnt amounted to anything. Watching the MetOff rainfall radar, another weak band imminant soon but the main does look like it's tracking further east but I have seen it turn north east in these type scenarios before now....difficult for anyone to predict... cwmbran 150m asl ( west pontnewydd upper cwmbran )
  13. I can confirm...its snowing in Cwmbran temp 2.9C..not exactly as cold as last night, was below freezing this time last night with a good white frost outside. I'm 150m asl Upper Cwmbran 5 miles east of newport
  14. Looking forward to night time snow events because the sun doesn't help daytime...too much thawing going on... Not sure if cwmbran will see much tonight, maybe just a dusting but will certainly be keeping a close eye on all the radars alter....Monday is looking odd for us here seeing as theres a weather warning out for newport, torfaen and monmouthshire giving 7cms of fresh snow...unusual amount...why not say 5 - 10 cm of snow possible - sounds a little suspect to me especially after last nights promises failed to give snow accross Wales. I don't know what to make of the downgrades, the upgrades the donwgrades.....just look at the window and keep watching the radars each night, should give us all a good idea whats on the way. Currently 0.4C here in Upper Cwmbran, clear no wind stars out. 150m asl ( West Pontnewydd up the mountainside )
  15. I think I best enjoy it here then before it turns to rain...starting to snow more now so its definitely arrived here.... ( only going to post again if it starts settling...if not then im going back to bed ) Upper Cwmbran 150m asl 5 miles east of Newport
  16. just started to snow here in Cwmbran, small flakes anyway but at least its snow Upper Cwmbran 150m asl 5 miles e of newport
  17. Temp 1.4C outside...cold and damp outside, no frost just raw... Interesting day ahead...expecting a decent duming of the white stuff lasting 10 hrs at least later.... Cwmbran 150m asl ( west pontnewydd ) 5 miles east of newport
  18. I'm expecting heavy snowfall tomorrow and according to everything I've looked at could last for a good 12 hours....giving us anything between 4 inches to 8 inches....and temps of 1C maximum Upper Cwmbran 150m asl 5 miles SE of Newport
  19. It's snowing here in Cwmbran ( SE Wales ) and everything has a covering. It's 0.8C also and no wind. Cwmbran 150m asl 5 miles east of newport. Interesting weather warning out for here tomorrow...up to 15cm of snow from some hefty showers,,,bring it on
  20. This winter should named 'wait till next week' co's thats all I have been doing for a month !!! I think someone has access to all of the charts and is having a laugh at the expense of the forecasters. Maybe someone has bet a pound they could do it for a laugh....
  21. It's been snizzly light tiny snow grains for hours here now in Cwmbran. It's only 2.5C outside and there's more potent ( but still only light ) showers heading this way for later. May have a covering/dusting just to look at under the lamposts later. Bullworker Cwmbran 150m asl 5 Miles East of Newport Borough.
