  1. I agree with what theyve said about 6pm today however , their weather maps tell a different story to many people and when you switch over and see a weather foreacst with Rob McElwee shwoing the UK covered in white dots....it looks like much snow for many....like I said they have to be careful to not over dramatise things but they also have to over dramatise things otherwise they are made to look stupid...and many people start to point the finger.... Ive been reading on other well known forums this morning and theyre all complaining about the lack of snow in the event today....these people are also weather forecasters ( allbeit amateurs or so ) and they should know better.... Whatever we get Im grateful. If it rains, then fine, it gives those people who dont like the cold a chance to cheer up and if it snows, then the kids are happy...can't please all of the pople all of the time....
  2. 0C here in Cwmbran, snowing more than just 'light' but not moderate although persistent and continous and blowing. Still huge amounts of snow lying about from last week, schools still closed...what next ? light snow forecast for the next 4 days here at Cwmbran SE Wales interesting to see what the weather for the week ahead will be today, talk of getting milder ? mmmm Met Office have to be quite careful on this ne seeing as the Government are now controlling the grit stocks and have a convoy of new grit lorries heading for the South East today. If they go for cold to remain then they could be very wrong and vice versa...they need to pretty precise to say the least... even though it's snowing here, I don't know where its landing, cant see any accumulations or hardly any on top of cars...whers it all going ? perhaps Ive got a 20 foot drift around the side of my house because I cant see it Cwmbran SE Wales 150m asl 5 miles east of Newport ( higher ground )
  3. Snowing here in Cwmbran ( SE Wales ) and has been for the last 2 hours.....looks like aflurry at a galance but the wind is blowing it so fast its hard to see.....its light snow and not moderate....anything will do....looking forward to the next 48 hours !!
  4. I forget that kids have to travel further and all the other things mentioned. I was just generalising society as a whole but you're right, so many things have changed and whether theyre for the better I dont actually know. It just seems a shame that the claim culture seems to dictate our every step. Like I said in my post, if you disagree then say and I fully understand why there are disagreements...I wouldn't want anyones child knocek over because a car is out of control and its a realistic reason why schools should close...perhaps ime old fashioned and I apologise for being so. Im only 42 and grew up during some bad winters. It just seems a shame that we cant seem to get any of it right anymore. My neighbour couldnt get into work the other day and with a 3 mile hike during tuesdays blizzard and deep snow here ( 9 inches ) she decided to stay at home. No taxis would pick her up. no buses running but her employer threatened her with the sack if it happened again as she didnt make enough effort...she has some health issues would could be affected by walking 3 miles in the snow but this wasnt taken into consideation and she was told if it happens again then she'd be up the road.....is that fair... we've got too many cars and too many supermarkets and too much convenience and too much money even though we're all skint...i am...but i still manage to buy fags and cider if i want to, this cant be right. OK i work for a living but i cant go if the kids cant go to school, i have to tell work sorry i aint coming in, They aint happy about it. There must be a better answer than this mess were all getting into
  5. Cwmbran snow was light but blowing a lot - difficult to see how much was actually snowing where I live. If the snow is light during sunday which is apparently forecasted but also continous throughout the day it will soon start to drift and the last weather forecast on the Beeb mentioned that. 12 hours of light snow maybe the equivalent of 3 hours of heavy snow....who knows? Whatever happens, its forecast to snow, who knows how much, but the wind will be throwing it about like nobodys business....small drifts would do me...a 1 cm covering will help.... whatever we get, the councils have not even attempted to clear the local schools here and if they get more snow on top then the schools will undoubtedly be closed yet again for the third day here. health and safety has caused a claim culture whcih prevents the schools from opening because councils to scared in case claims for broken wrists and fractured limbs happen....this wasnt the case when i was younger.... what a weak society we live in.... If you're cold - put a jumper on ! don't turn the heating up or put a log on the fire If you've got lying snow - walk to work, walk to school and walk to the shops.... How are we going to manage in the future ? They'll be closing schools in the summer if the sun is too strong, the tempertaure is too high and they havent got aircon !...ridiculous Torfaen Borough Council has reported that as soon as they fill up the grit bins in the area people turn up within minutes in their vans, with their wheelbarrows and their buckets and empty them more or less straight away ! thats because the side roads are treacherous.... Did the councils grit the roads in 1963 ? If so, how did they keep them open ? or did everyone just go about their lives, adapt and cope with help from others until the weather warmed up...i think so Too much convenience these days, we're not a human race that knows how to adapt properly anymore, technology has taken over and money rules. ive had my say...but most agree...if not then I stand corrected...or sat anyway
  6. Just measured the snow depth here in Cwmbran ( west pontnewydd ) 150m asl and we've got just over 9 inches of snow! Its still emptying down but looks set to stop within the next 40 minutes or looking at the radar....so I reckon 9 half inches depth
  7. Just been outside...must be close to 9 maybe 10 inches and its blizzard like...the snow is sideways, its powery gusts are being blown off roofs and up aganist everything. Not much activity about. people trudging to work. Still snowing ahrd and loking at the radar a few more hours yet ! Cwmbran SE Wales West Pontnewydd 150 m asl 5 miles east of newport

  11. Not far away - swirling back around onto Cwmbran in the next hour
  12. If this carries on at this rate throughout the night, then i can foresee electric cables being brought down, trees brought down and standstill in the morning

Gonna be a winter wonderland tomorrow......there wont be any traffic out to cause any gridlocks tomorrow i can tell you. the weather is going to get a lot worse overnight... welcome to Cwmbran Cwmbran SE Wales 150m asl 5 miles east of newport ( upper Cwmbran ) temp 0.1C Snowing heavy and blowing

  17. I totally agree, that intense band of snow arching around and heading in all our direction looks something to keep an eye on. remember, that the BBC can only forecast what they think is going to happen. I am suggesting this low will be larger than anticipated and much more areas will get a lot more snow from it. I can see 25cm quite widespread. I don't see any downgrade this end. We'll just to keep an eye on the next few hours to see how this pans out. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight..Ill be constantly getting out of bed and having a curtain twitch....annoying though is that they have switched my street lamps off after 130 and i cant see diddly Cwmbran SE Wales 150m asl West Pontnewydd Upper Cwmbran Steve
  18. snowing here in Cwmbran, nice big flakes...no wind
  19. Just starting to see some flurries here in Cwmbran SE Wales. I've heard on radio 2 traffic news that Pwllheli on trhe Lleyn peninsula has got severe snow problems causing traffic issues and that band is moving south later after this first lot...and looking at the radar the whole lot looks like its starting to swirl togther and turn into a beautiful low with widespread siruption overnight....bring it on.... Steve Cwmbran SE Wales 150m asl 5 miles east of Newport Higher ground
