  1. I think some of the flurries will be more of a light to moderate shower in nature as the week goes on especially into wednesday and thursday and beyond. Whatever happens this week, there's certainly going to be a very wintry feel about it all and that'sall I need to get some excitement going through my veins...any showers will be of light snow, possibly blowing about and sometimes heavier than others. there's going to be freezing temperatures during the nights again and a distinct poissible of crisp crunchy mornings are set to happen and then if all goes to plan...some more significant snowfall from either the North or the east from lows pishing westwards towards us off the continent. My money is on the northerlies to dig in and bring some very unstable air down and accross the UK with heavy snow showers for all. I dont care where it comnes from just send it.
  2. The last bit of snow has left the mountain top above Cwmbran. It's been there for weeks and only the remaining was protected in the ravines and deep gulley shaded areas but nevertheless stayed a long time and longer than I've ever known it here since the early 80's....maybe some more soon to start us getting excited....fingers crossed...have to wait a week I reckon before that happens ...showers sooner though
  3. I'm a newcomer and I think something special is about to happen in the next few runs. I've seen these Model output threads gte very busy and I think the time has come for a deluge, of people posting and cold weather that does seem as though it's nailed on. The hesitancy of many these days is due to the models 'flipping' so frequently and letting many down. I can understand why people are so pessimistic this time around ( for the 3rd time now ) but patience is a virtue and remember everyone, it's only the beginning February, a lot can happen between now and April ! I remember heavy snow in April in South Wales about 5 or 6 years ago after a week of sunny warm weather whcih prompted me to put up the garden gazebo. I left it out that night when snow was falling only to find the whole thing had collapsed due to the weight of snow busting every corner pole. It's great reading by the way, keep it up everyone, I'm a newcomer and I'm learning a lot from everyone who is wrong and everyone who is right. steve
  4. I'd rather have poxy snow showers than rain and clear nights ! they can give a nice covvering and excites many people who don't follow the forecasts at all. i can't belive how many people don't watch the weather forecasts. My mother said to me yesterday there's no way we'll get any snow overnight - it's too clear and frosty ) only to be greeted with lying snow this morning, only a dusting but still pretty to many and also something to get the excitement back after all this model watching...it's doing my head in. Any showers of snow ill do me, worth waiting for especially as they can be very intense and great to watch under the lamp post
  5. Has snowed here in the last hour. Got a nice covering . No thaw. Very cold. 0.1C here. Everything white. no depth though. Great winter were having..off to check the models cwmbran 150m asl 5 miles east of newport
  6. I spend a lot of time reading through all these threads and posts as I do with other type forums and find the whole experience great. If it wasn't for people posting on what 'could happen' and 'wow, look at these charts' then it wouldn't be that interesting. I understand that there are some serious weather buffs on here on also some 'more amateur' ones too....ie ME ! I love the forum and love to see what people think. 'two heads are better than one' attitude is the best way to go and seeing others getting excited is a great thing. There's some posts on here by people who are 'real amateurs' notice some things that sometimes do get missed by those who are looking at the 'nailed on' likelies and I'm sure it helps everyone to express their own thoughts. That's whats this forum is for I believe...perhaps I'm wrong. Fantasy island F1 was perhaps named wrongly, perhaps it should have been named 'TMH - ( this may happen ) Anyway, I'm all for everyone who posts on here. I've not yet really seen a numpty who just posts stupid stuff to annoy everyone - you should be grateful because it happens in other forums ). Keep up the good work everyone and thanyou to the moderators who have a tough time trying to keep EVERYONE happy. It can't be easy. You don't have to read everything remember, read the stuff that interests you. Anyway, my thoughts Steve

  11. For those who want a thaw..then lets hope its a good one, but will definitely need to be to shift this lot...flooding !! who knows... I'm going to get the kids to build a 12 foot high snowman tomorrow and 12 foot wide as well, hoipefully will last the duration until spring happens in April !!
  12. Like you haven't had enough tonight already !! lol
  13. just a quick note about driving in the snow when there are warnings 'not to travel' and you are involved in an accident ( lets hope not ) insurance companies will do their utmost to 'deny' the claim if any damage has been done. you have been warned They will try to wriggle out of any insurance claim especially when it comes to 'drining in the snow' even if it's a 4x4 !!
  14. Sent this to my local head master ...( deleted school anems and peoples names for reasons as you can understand ) Good morning, I'm in dismay at the fact a decision has been made to open the school on Monday 11th january 2009 as it has been closed due to snow and ice issues relating to a snow event that happened the previous Tuesday. I have been paying attention to both ********** primary and *********** schools as both my daughters attend and no effort has been made on anyone's part ( the council ) to clear pathways or road access areas. *********** school is closed for today ( Monday 11th Jan ) because of ice and snow risk. Therefore, our thinking for safety reasons that ************ Primary should also do the same. However, the notice on the schools website suggests that the school opening is going ahead even though no effort has been made to alleviate the snow/ice issues ie, no gritting, no pathways cleared. If this has been done then my apologies, but there was no sign of activity in the school area up until late last night when I drove past. ************* school also in the same situation. I understand that the government and councils are urging schools to make every effort to re-open today especially as the media have highlighted the importance of schooling and examinations being cancelled etc but I still think something more could have been done to help. I for one am a parent as you know and would have been quite happy to come to the school on the weekend and helped clear pathways etc to prepare for todays opening but could not as the gates were closed. Maybe a parent action committee in case of similar events in the future. There may well be other parents who would also like to help out in a community old style spirit. I wouldn't want to do it on my own and that's for sure. 'Shovel for Victory' slogan during the winter months....now there's a thought. I'm sure Mr ********* ( caretaker ) would be happy to make cups of teas for everyone rather than running around like a headless chicken trying to clear pathways and grit areas with his tiny 'rolling gritter'. I saw him over a week ago doing this and he looked exhausted practically trying to get the school ready. I hope he get's recognition for his massive efforts. He may seem to many people as a 'grumpy old man' but I can assure you his hearts in the right place and he's a genuinely nice person. I understand that opening the school helps parents return to work. Unfortunatley many parents have children in **************** school too so they're still in the 'same boat' with them being closed today. The weather is definitely going to start warming up from about wednesday 13th but there's still a weather warning of another severe snow event bringing heavy snow and drifting for approx 12 hours to our area. No doubt the school will be closed again. Whatever the decision is that makes ******** Primary open when there's health and safety issues maybe making the overall decsion based on what the local comprehensive schools intend to do may be a better idea. If *************** is closed...then the question 'why' should be asked. I hope this doesn't sound like a gripe and taken more of an observation and a parents point of view. and this was the reply..... Hi Mr ********, Thank you for your email regarding the decision to open the site yesterday. Unfortunately, we were told by the LEA on Thursday that, even though they themselves were unable to grit the surrounding roads, if we could clear a walk way into the school then we were obligated to open, hence the fact that a number of schools did reopen on Friday. However, after consultation with my Governors and my caretaker, I didnt deem it safe to open on Friday and felt it best to wait until yesterday. Mr ********, spent Sunday clearing and gritting the path ways to and from the buildings to ensure that there was a walk way and, while I have my own personal views on whether schools should open or not in such weather, I have a legal duty, if the walk ways into the buildings are clear and adequette staff can get to school, to open the school. Thank you for your kind offer to assist with clearing the site in future, it was very considerate of you to offer, but unfortunately, ridiculous as it may sound, we are unable to allow it because of Health and Safety considerations. Best regards ******* ** ****** health and safety stops us from helping to clear the snow....wat a larffe
  15. Have never had a pasting thankfully, too ugly and too big....aaah...you meant the snow...lol yes its bl@@dy brill cant wait to get the kids out in the morning sledging up and down the main road !! 16. It's just piling up here in Upper Cwmbran (np44 ), I reckon a measurement in the morning will give us about 10 inches especially if it carries on the way it is.....everywhere is white....on top of the white we already had !!! going to trawl the mod outputs now for more info,.....sounds like it may be a thaw this weekend but so far so good, next week looks seriously cold.....again.... 17. Just been outside and measured todays now depth....we're at 5 inches now on top of the 5 inches left from last Tuesday. Its snowing very fine but very heavy and theres not a lot of wind about here in my street, quite sheltered I suppose but nevertheless going to be drifting in other locations close to here.... looked at a few radars and there's still plenty more to come for here anyway...will fizzle out during the early morning but not really sure when. i reckon 1000am snow ploughs have been up and down maendy way ( west pontnewydd earlier to keep the roads clear but some local loonies have recently built a mega giant snowball and placed it in the centre of the main road. lol ( wasnt me - honest ) The trees are picturesque and heavily covered in snow as its still falling straight down with o sign of wind here...god help us if it starts to drift later if the winds pick up ! my kids wont be going to school tomorrow I even had trouble getting my 44x4 out of the estate earlier because fresh snow on hard packed icy snow isnt a good mix for traction, had to drive over the curbs and onto the grass to get out...,..not good if a 44x4 starts struggling Just had a text from a girl i work with, she left cwmbran office at 1710hrs and got home to hafodyrynys at 2220pm !! 5 hrs to travel 10 miles !!! traffic gridlocked and breakdowns and accidents.....don't travel....it aint worth it interesting to see what amount of depth will be in the morning, have to ferry 3 people to cwmbran town centre at 0800hrs to their work... they could be walking !! tempertaure here -0.2C Cwmbran SEWales 150m asl ( west pontnewydd ) 5 miles east of newport np44
  18. Heavy snow here in Cwmbran, everything totally blanketed. there was still of lot of snow lying around from last week, I'd as about 5 inches. 19. 0.9C here in Cwmbran SE Wales. Wind now picking up...cold....snowing moderately now here in Upper Cwmbran. This is going to be some event..... I bet Wales doesn't get much of a mention on the news tomorrow morning even though all the schools will be closed and abandoned cars will be everywhere. I can see about a foot of snow here tonight and tomorrow morning ( if I keep my fingers tightly crossed ) Bullworker Cwmbran np44 postcode upper ground 150m asl
  20. Hope you all get some snow. I can't see now ! Someone has turned out the street lamps at 1230 and I aint standing outside the front door with a torch counting snow flakes...bed for me If it snows overnight then ill see it in the morning...pesky radar showing it passing me right by....no doubt that will change....Abergavenny isn't far away but far enough...it may be snowing there but it may stay dry all night here... Good luck all Cwmbran SEWales

  24. 0.5C here in Cwmbran SE Wales. Radar showing snow not far away. Not a flake in the sky outside yet...will keep you posted as soon as I see one !! Bullworker Cwmbran 150m asl Upper Cwmbran - 5 miles east of Newport
  25. We've had on and off light snow all day here in Cwmbran and it really pepped up while we were sat down at the dinner table and we all cheered and got excited but it only lasted about 1 minute and then carried on as slight snow....flurries and the like... i can't believe our local schools are closed yet again tomorrow Croesyceiliog Comp and Pontnewydd primary and there's been no sign of any council attempting to clear the access roads and the playgrounds and parking areas for staff....poor show. My missus and the kids are all downbeat today because the weather warnings for lots of snow seem to have been downplayed and I tried to tell tem " Look you lot, there's still ice/snow packed roads outside, many people can't get out of their streets, 7 inches of snow still in back yard....seems to have shrunk..sure it was about 9 inches....and some really pretty scenery.." The missus said it's not the same...." we want the chaos and the mayhem " ...ah, so that's what its all about then....we don't want the snow really, we just wanty the madness.....hmmmm unusual human thinking.... I agree though, i don't think it's the snow i want, i just want the deep totals and the drifting and the severe cold.. maybe its because the temperate climate we live in. perhaps we wouldn't be wishing for such chaos if we lived in countries hat got down to -40C when your skin freezes and frostbite takes a few toes off you every year !! Anyway, Wednesday morning looks interesting, unfortunately, the Met Office have issued a warning and for some reason now I've lost a bit of faith.....I don't envy the job they do, but I do envy the amount of salary some of them get paid...and the annual bonusses.... don't get me going now... Why has Gordon brown called the army in to help in the South East ? Why have they taken control of rock salt supplies ? Are they relying on the Met Office as well ? I wonder if the government know of how the future weather will play out and they know the winter is going to be a long one.....maybe they've captured an alien spacecraft and were able to decipher our future weather forecasts using alien technology.... I think I'd better stop eating too much cheese, getting strange thoughts in the daytime lol Bullworker Cwmbran 150m asl Upper Cwmbran - 5 miles east of Newport
