Greater Manchester and North Cheshire / modest heights and SE’ly wind = DRY.
Even if it’s cold enough just watch the precipitation disappear once we get within the high-res.
If it’s cold enough, west of the region is best plus high ground elsewhere.
IMBY - not that interested in this one. Would delighted to be wrong.

I’m gonna give this spell 7/10. A rare snowfall for central Manchester and it was so special seeing the city turn into a winter wonderland. Would have scored it higher if the snow had lasted a bit longer, that pesky mild sector!
Nice to wake up to another dusting this morning and to see the frozen Manchester Bolton & Bury canal covered in snow, pic below. Can’t wait for the area to be developed and for that area to turn into a little park.
I also think I might get this photo framed: the skyscrapers disappearing into a snowy mist.

Light dusting of snow in town. The frozen canals all lightly covered again.

Looking at the latest radar I can’t see Manchester getting any snow this evening.

Doesn't look like anything is building in behind the line of showers at the minute.Looks like just one shower for the lucky ones.
Agreed, looks like slim pickings, MetO are picking up on another batch later in the evening though.

Latest MetO map looks pretty good. Assume it’s the UKV? But one that updates more frequently? Some big showers.

Any chance for Manc??
Definitely a chance! Can see big clouds developing to the west. Just keep an eye on the radar.

I reckon 45 mins or so before those showers reach the NW coast? Assuming they stay intact of course

The current heavy shower east of IOM has our region’s name on it , maybe Wirral?

I want a bit more snow, I hope to be home before it starts though. Lots of waiting round today and various tests prior to radiotherapy treatment, looks like I'll be a little while yet. The radar is my window.
Hope it goes well.

Yes please
these showers look slow moving a few cm quite possible very similar to Tuesday morning also rolling through the timeline a possible streamer setting up be a nice way to end this cold spell, still maintain that February is looking very interesting, looking at the models at the moment you would think I am mad suggesting such a thing I look at it at the atmosphere resetting itself.Give it seven days or so and I am sure the models will look more interesting.
Looks promising for Cheshire gap area , especially SW Cheshire. Fingers crossed

A lovely end to the cold spell if we get a covering of snow tonight.
Showers looking fairly organised now so you never know.

Heavier showers now making it into the North Channel

Signal for precipitation has weakened on the 06z GFS, it’s still there but very light. West of the region most favoured.

Cheers for these Joe! Really handy when in a rush and haven't got time to go through them all.
Very welcome mate.
I recommend the Meteociel app to get a good easy snapshot.

BBC Weather with Carol zooming in on the NW and suggesting snow showers later, on the latest forecast.
Can only assume that means ECM shows a bit of snow.

00z GFS and WRF looking quite promising for later @Chris.R is it the 2km model you look at and rate? That one shows quite a heavy batch of snow showers moving through the NW.
Arome, Arpege and Harmonie all have the showers too but perhaps more isolated/lighter.
UKV shows nothing except for the Wirral coast.
Again a good test of the high-res models. The MetO aren’t interested as their model isn’t going for it.
Not expecting much if anything here but if WRF is correct you never know! I was reading about the WRF model and it is allegedly very good at predicting convective events/precip.

Quick summary of tomorrow night from the high-res models.
18z GFS - light snow showers moving through the region 5-10pm . No accumulations.
18z WRF - a band of heavy snow showers move through the region tomorrow evening, clearing my midnight. A cm or two in places.
18z Arome - downgrade from 12z , a few snow showers in the west of the region tomorrow evening, Also a few snow showers clipping the Merseyside coast tonight too.
18z Arpege - snow mainly confined to western parts of the region however becoming more widespread Friday morning, possibly very light covering in places
18z HARMONIE - heavy snow showers tomorrow evening weakening as they move SE across the region, heaviest across Cumbria
18z ICON - similar to HarmonieWRF is by far the keenest for snow. A case of west is best I think

You got the screenshots Joe?
Can we broke the -9.4c temps of Dec last year here in Glossop tonight.. will see, looking promising
The 12z runs have backed off a bit to be honest, although haven’t checked them all. West of the region looks to have more potential for a few showers.

Just checked a number of the high-res models. Harmonie , Arpege and Arome all showing a bit of activity here tomorrow evening.
