My weather app has just informed me im to expect 13cm of snaw tonight and into tomorrow morning.. .. im not buying that.
Happy Christmas to everybody in here, stay safe, enjoy special times with family and friends. See you all in the new year.
And to you!
Not sure about 13cm but I’d be surprised if you didn’t see a decent covering by tomorrow. Shame Sunday is to be mild.
ECM quite chilly from Christmas Day onwards. GFS not so much at the moment.

Fair temperature spread across Scotland this morning from +11c in the southwest to -2c in Shetland. The Northern Isles are the only part of Scotland with the mean monthly temperature anomaly still below average. The recent mild spell has brought everywhere else above average after the cold start to the month.

Quite bright here, we've dodged the rain so far and feeling mild at 11c with light winds.
The Christmas day charts have been comedy gold: as soon as ECM goes cold, GFS shows mild and vice versa. At present it's GFS showing a cold day with ECM relatively mild. All in all I'd categorise the coming week as classic Scottish winter fayre, never particularly cold or mild but windy and unsettled with snow on the hills at times and a smaller risk of something wintry at lower levels, especially in the north. Could be a lot worse!- 7

For 23rd to 25th I currently have Yr.no (0z ECM) saying barely getting above freezing here with wintry showers, yet XC Weather (12z GFS) saying mild, windy and wet for the same days. Spread on GFS ensemblies is all over the place though beyond the 22nd. I don't think any of the models currently have clue what will happen after Friday.
Yes with the cold air just to the north the slightest deviations on each run give us very different conditions for the 23-26th. However things seem to be gradually edging north (in terms of the progress of the cold air) rather than south. Hopefully that trend will reverse!

Morning all,
Another mild one, 10.3c here but 12.4c up on the Moray coast. Mean wind speed of 89mph at the summit of Cairngorm, gusting 110mph!
Real mix of options on offer for the big day, hopefully things will settle into the cold scenario as we get into a more reliable time frame.

A mild start across the board. 11c here, 12.5c on the Moray coast.
Mild until Tuesday then turning cooler. Next weekend is not without interest at this stage!

Miserable again. Wet, 7c and a brisk (22 mph) SEly wind. Looking forward to the westerlies at the weekend, we need to dry out!

The ‘wet in the east’ theme of Autumn has continued into December. Aberdeen already sitting on 135% of average December rainfall (106mm) while Tulloch Bridge is on just 7% (16mm). The wettest few months I can remember since moving to the area in 2005.
It’s raining outside, 7c.

A less than easy commute home in awful weather just now. Windy, 5C, pitch black, heavy rain, lots of surface water, including the A944 fully submerged in a couple of the usual places. At least the ice has gone from the driveway, which is about the only positive I can think of.
Similar down here. Horrible day with heavy rain on and off and strong SEly winds. Bring back the cold!

Lovely day in NE Fife, plenty of sunshine. Cold start at -1c in Pittenweem, -4c Leuchars. Warmed up to just above freezing this afternoon but the temperature has risen in the last couple of hours, now 5c in a strengthening SEly wind.

Back home after my adventures yesterday. Just some frozen remnants of graupel here in Pittenweem so drove over to Hill of Tarvit. Central Fife from Glenrothes through Muchty and up to Cupar looking great after yesterdays fall.
Here on the coast temperature is higher than last couple of days at 2.2c. Light flurries at the moment but rising dew points will turn them to rain later. Still the last few days have delivered much more than I expected to NE Fife. Nice start to winter. The lack of strong onshore winds really helped!

@Kirkcaldy Weather in a blatant show of oneupmanship I headed to Ben Lawers to trump your photos. Things looked different above 800m
@Norrance Interesting drive up. Nothing much east of Aberfeldy but Kenmore was a winter wonderland. As you headed west the snow tapered so virtually nothing in Killin. And on the south side of the loch the hills were pretty bare. Glad to see Dundee got some snow!

Overnight low of -2.1c for the first day of winter. That’s sometimes the lowest value we have for the whole winter!
A bit of a graupel top-up overnight so ungritted streets and pavements are an ice rink. A cm of snow a couple of miles inland at 100m.

A few more showers around today, a mix of rain, snow but mostly graupel. We still have a light slushy graupely covering. 3 miles from the coast and 100m in altitude inland there’s a covering of snow. Max was 2.9c which is chilly for my location.

Morning all,
1.1c currently with an overnight low of 0.7c. We obviously caught some beefy graupel showers as there’s a partially slushy partially frozen covering.

Before we get any ‘ground is too wet’ comments your annual reminder about wetbaws and how to calculate tool:
Wet Bulb Calculator
WWW.OMNICALCULATOR.COM
With humidity and temperature you can find out the value of the wet-bulb temperature, and if it's any different from the normal air temperature.- 9

Just rain here at sea level in St Andrews: 3c/0c
A few flakes mixed in now that the intensity has picked up but a horrible mess. I suspect here the impact will be ice later rather than any snow at the coast.

just need these uppers to drop a couple of degrees more than forecast and it could be on.
Agreed. There's a 10c liquid electric blanket just to our east.
@Kirkcaldy Weather you're not expecting accumulating snow at the coast? My hunch is inland and with a bit of elevation (~100m or so) would be realistic?- 7

First air frost of the season last night, just (-0.1c) but they all count! A couple of weeks earlier than last year but last week in November is probably around average for my location.

Morning all, overnight low +1.1c so still waiting on our first air frost (which came on Dec 8th last year).
