First report from my new location and it’s not a happy one. Wet, cold and miserable about sums it up. I don’t have my weather station set up yet so no figures to go with that but it was 3c when I left for work and 7c when I got home. West Lomond had snow and East Lomond didn’t so locally the snow level was just above 400m.

Morning all, Ive not been online in a couple of weeks because I have been busy moving house! After 15 years of coastal living in the East Neuk and another 4 in Broughty Ferry I’m a coastie no longer. Now in Glenrothes. So a little wetter, colder in winter and warmer in summer. Less haar. And of course better snow prospects. While I wouldn’t consider Glenrothes a mecca for snow, it is compared to Pittenweem and I should be posting snow pics more regularly (my last were Feb 21!). I also have the Lomonds on my doorstep!

Well that’s a wrap on meteorological winter. My brief local wintry summary: 11 air frosts (4 Dec, 5 Jan, 2 Feb) 1 ice day No lying snow Nothing too surprising for my mild location. What’s been more notable is that on the back of a very wet October and November, it’s been a dreary 5 months of wind and rain. Certainly the most protracted spell of poor weather since I moved here in 2005.

Dull, drizzly and dreich, 5.5c I’m ready to raise the white flag and accept another snowless winter. I think the fact that October-December was so unusually and relentlessly wet over here has made it feel like a long, unpleasant slog with no pay off. Spring, anyone? There’s been a real north-south divide. I think if I lived somewhere like Orkney I’d be saying this winter has delivered in style. But central belt southwards, a real disappointment (thus far).
