  1. Time to roll out the old wetbaw calculator, I feel: Wet Bulb Calculator (omnicalculator.com) If you know your air temperature and relative humidity you are good to go. For example if it's snowing with an air temp of 2c and Rel Hum of 80% = Wetbaw of +0.2c. You need it below 0c to see meaningful accumulation. Here in Pittenweem it's currently 4.5c with 70% humidity = wetbaw of +1.8c. That's as low as the temperature will go with evaporative cooling so no prospect of accumulating snow unless the measurements change!
  2. Ross B the warning does stress that accumulations will mainly be across higher ground (>300m). I'm struggling to see anything more than temporary slushy deposits for most at low levels through the central belt. Happy to be corrected by someone more knowledgeable of course! Temperature up to 2c here now after the chilly start.
  3. Great post @Hairy Celt First air frost since January 18th this morning, low was -2.5c. -6c up the road at more sheltered Leuchars. Confident we won’t see any accumulating snow here, not with a strong onshore easterly. The latest Met Office forecast backs this up with the usual ‘away from the immediate coast’ caveat. Normal service maintained
  4. Dry here but we missed out on recording our first air frost since Jan 18th - our low was +0.8c. Better chance tonight, I think. Meanwhile I'll take the blue skies and light winds, 3c.
  5. A brighter day and feeling chillier than of late although we still managed 8c. May get our first air frost since January 18th tonight but possibly not here on the coast unless the wind dies down significantly. Tomorrow and Thursday look decent before it all descends into easterly dreich on Friday.
  6. Last day of the month and it looks like mean monthly temps will come in at average or a touch below. Different for our friends up north who enjoyed that snowy week but not a lot to remember Jan 24 for locally. One ice day (they’re always notable here) and a storm with 80+mph gusts on the 21st. No snowfall, 5 air frosts. Probably the most significant thing was rainfall being near normal after three consecutive very wet months. Be grateful for small mercies!
  7. I’m not normally one to rush and criticise the Met Office but I do wish they would update their text forecasts when the forecast goes wrong. Today is a good example. Rain set up further north than expected and it’s been raining here since 2pm. Forecast is dry all day and the hourly app has 90% chance of rain. Not ideal!
  8. @chemikal Very nice, glad you’ve had decent weather. I’m originally from Glasgow and the difference in rainfall is amazing. Which is what made October to December here so shocking when it was relentlessly wet! How was the new Indian restaurant, I’ve not been yet. Mild here at 10.5c but not as exceptional as further north.
  9. Winds here were more your average winter storm with gusts peaking at 60mph at Leuchars as opposed to the 80mph recorded on Sunday night. Models a bit ‘meh’ much may help explain the quietness. Will be interesting to see how the month comes in overall. Despite the cold spell mean temps may end up near average, especially in the south.
  10. Yes this pattern reset means business as usual in terms of rainfall after 3 months of the east bearing the brunt. 47mm at Glasgow Bishopton in the 48 hours to 6am. 1mm at Leuchars. All eyes on the storm
  11. Congratulations @Northern Strath lovely news. Not so lovely was today’s weather although the rain and dreich wind of morning faded to a mild greyness later. Temp maxed at 8.1c.
  12. Glad I didn’t because it’s remained completely dry of course. Not as cold here this morning. -1.1c
  13. Came home to see the max temp today has been -0.2c so barring something unexpected between now and Midnight we’ve had an ice day. Those are rare here although we did have one last winter (13/12/22). Also unusual to see us being colder than Leuchars where the temp crept up to 1c.
  14. Morning all, -3c when I left home but it may have dropped further. Regardless it's comfortably the coldest night of the winter for me. -5c at Leuchars. Very icy underfoot where last night's rain has frozen. Met Office whispering in my ear: Becoming cloudier across northern and eastern parts overnight with a few snow showers for Angus and Fife. Not buying it of course!
  15. I can reassure everyone it’s raining in Pittenweem. 3.1c. Some things you can rely on! Good to see some snow on the other side of the Tay though!
  16. I do like the Old Bridge. Jealous! Back home, it's raining lightly at the moment, 2.8c/0.5c. Colder dew points just to my north (-0.8c at Leuchars).
  17. Great to see some fellow non-prone coasties get a proper dumping! @mistyqueen hope you've shared the fun. 2.3c here after a low of -0.8c. Overcast.
  18. Quite. Feb 21 was the last measurable snowfall here (> 1cm). We’re about due. Don’t usually go more than 3 winters between snowfalls, even here! Cracking day though, blue skies and sunshine, max 1.0c.
  19. I invested in a snowblower which I feel is in proportion to the amount of snow I see.
  20. No snow here of course but we do have our first air frost of 2024! Low of -1.0 but a penetrating frost because of the wind. Some great photos/videos!
  21. 3.3c, dew point -1c here. The blue skies and frost will be very welcome here too. Last week was horrible.
