  1. 2.5c here and bone dry - not often we're a shade cooler than you. Temp has fallen by 2c since 6pm. The patient wait for the first snowflakes of winter goes on!
  2. Not sure I'm keen on the prospect of an easterly to be honest. This is only my seventh winter on the Fife coast but easterlies (especially SElies) tend to be pretty dire, weatherwise, unless accompanied by very cold uppers (<-10c). Dank, drizzly and cold. I realise this is a very IMBY post though - the outlook more generally is very interesting for those seeking snow!
  3. Just rain here in St Andrews - very light precip though - still patiently waiting on my first snowflakes of the winter!
  4. A low of -1.3c last night which equalled my coldest reading of the winter thus far (for local reference Leuchars recorded -6c). High today of just +1.7c, coldest maximum of the winter thus far.
  5. Morning all and a belated happy new year. Sunny out this morning - not much chance of any showers making it over to the East Neuk. +4c in a fresh to strong WSWly breeze.
  6. Interesting. Across the Tay it's rain and sleet here in Crail. Like you we've had no snow here this winter as yet. +3.4c. I see Leuchars is reporting rain and snow at 2c/1c.
  7. Still no snow here as yet this winter (not unusual) but today is glorious: clear blue skies and crisp sunshine, +0.7c.
  8. Good to see the snow reports ! We missed out here as the band of precipitation slipped just to the south. So we remain snow-free so far this winter (not remarkable for my location - 2 of the 6 winters I've lived here have featured no lying snow). Fair skies, currently +1.5c after an overnight low of -0.9c.
  9. Good to see the reports today - enjoy! Nothing over here in the East Neuk of Fife but a very wintry feel to things with frost lingering all day in the shade and a maximum of just 2c.
  10. No snow this morning but a lovely winter's day. 2c/-2c wind westerly 10mph. Sunny skies. Apparently there was a very light covering inland (around Cupar).
  11. Good to see the snow reports rolling in! Should be an interesting 24/36 hours. No real prospect of any snow here on the Fife Riviera of course but it's a lovely winter's day out there at 3c under clear blue skies. Hopeful of my first air frost of the season tonight!
  12. Using the Leuchars readings I believe we had our warmest day in almost 5 years yesterday, maxing out at 26.3c which marginally topped the 26.2c from last May. Hottest day since August 2006! Today: 11c, overcast, wind ENEly 15mph.
  13. 25.5c at 2pm, making it our warmest day since May 2010. Glorious out there!
  14. Didn't realise this thread ran all year round! Sunny spells this morning and a chilly breeze - though at least it has died down from yesterday afternoon's near gale. 12c, wind westerly 17mph.
  15. Just rain here on the coast, I'm afraid. 2.8c.
  16. A rain/snow mix here in St Andrews with temperature at 2c dew point 1c. The surrounding hills (above 150m ish) look nice and white.
  17. We had a quick burst of snow here half an hour ago which whitened the ground but it has since turned to light rain here in Crail. 1c/0c.
  18. My weather station is reporting +5.5c...and I see that Leuchars is the warmest place in the UK according to the weatheronline.co.uk 12 Noon reports. Quite a contrast to yesterday and my snow is vanishing fast but I agree it's been a great spell here. Meanwhile the deep freeze continues up north: Altnaharra reporting -16.4c at Noon!
  19. Morning all, Very different start to the day here in coastal Fife, with a major thaw underway. Currently +5.1c in Crail (+4c Leuchars) and overnight our lying snow has gone from 6cm to 2cm. If this continues we will be snow free by the end of today. The strong easterly wind seems to be 'eating' then snow although dewpoints remain below freezing. Good to hear the cold is continuing away from SE coastal areas, and I won't be complaining - we have had lying snow here for far longer than I ever thought likely!
  20. Smashing day here with great cloudscapes and flurries on and off all day. Temperatures generally just above freezing with -1c dewpoint. Caught a heavy shower at 3pm which dropped half an inch in 20 minutes. Total accumulation today an inch.
  21. Morning everyone, About a cm of new snow has fallen in Crail overnight - and judging by the radar perhaps more to come? Been above freezing since midnight, current temp +0.5/-0.3 but snow is light and fluffy. With 850s forecast to dip to -12 later today I would be hoping any precip we get will stay as snow!
  22. Thanks for the welcomes:) Really is a beautiful crisp morning here in St Andrews with the fresh cover of snow. Looking ahead, and reading the posts above, will be interesting to see what happens in the next 48 hours. Like others I wonder if we might see some snow, especially as the cold upper level air crosses the North Sea, although with pressure remaining high to the north I would have thought any accumulations would be light?
  23. Hello everyone, I'm a regular poster over on TWO but I really like the fact there is a dedicated Scottish thread on here to keep up to date with local conditions so thought I would pitch in. Displaced Glaswegian living in Fife (good to see lots of Fife posters on here!) I have lived in (normally snow-free) Crail for the last 4 years but this winter has been special even there. Not for the low temperatures (lowest I've recorded is -4.5c) or the snow depth (5cm max) but rather the number of days with snow lying - talking to locals who have lived here for decades this has been truly exceptional. Anyway we had a dusting of fresh snow over night and it was -3.5c when I left for work in St Andrews. Here it is -6c and there has been a cm of fresh snow. Graeme
