  1. Showers showing signs of moving south from Hull now. It looks like the showers will become more extensive as the day goes on and turn increasingly wintry. So all to play for
  2. The weather forecasters this morning are pretty adamant that it will only be rain (and possibly sleet) today. Potential to turn to snow tonight though with a possible covering in places. Thursday night again has potential.
  3. So glad I had a night off radar watching and got a good night's sleep....Good Morning Britain are really hyping up the cold weather because of this met office weather warning. So over the top. They have reporters dotted over the country...the one in Beverley where they have 3cm of snow said it's the "beast from the East" that's causing all the problems. How misinformed can they all be lol. And one of the lady reporters from Lancaster said "I'll show you how cold it is today" held up the thermometer "it showed 1c" laughable!
  4. Ok, I appreciate and accept your apology. Let's get back to the weather
  5. Very silly??? Do you normally talk to people like that? Don't appreciate it buddy.....
  6. Anyone else see the BBC weather following the news? Matt Taylor paints a very gloomy picture for South East tonight. The main threat is ice. No mention whatsover of precipitation. All showers appear to be up north. And even tomorrow, only isolated, and mostly rain or sleet. Tomorrow night might be better though, through to Thursday, but nothing out of the ordinary. Friday he mentioned it getting even colder as an Easterly sets in, but once again no mention of precipitation. I think I'll have a night off radar watch.
  7. It's rather easy to get engrossed in the forum on a cold winters day/night. Not exactly outdoor weather is it? No harm done
  8. Isolated wintry showers....there was a warning for heavy snow only yesterday for tomorrow with accumulations!
  9. Doesn't sound that promising. The local weather text is even worse. This Evening and Tonight: Remaining cold overnight, especially where any localised snow accumulations persist. Further sleet and snow showers are likely, mainly across eastern England and Scotland, leading to icy patches. Elsewhere, generally dry with a widespread frost, locally severe. Wednesday:Cold with further isolated wintry showers in the east, snow across hills. Mainly dry elsewhere, with some sunny spells. Further rain, sleet and hill snow arrives in the northwest later. Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:Brisk northeasterly winds with further wintry showers across some eastern parts Thursday. Otherwise dry and cold. Sunny periods Friday before turning less cold and rather cloudy from the north Saturday
  10. Yeah, Kate Kinsella used to read the local news years ago.
  11. It might be better for the South East this time as the showers are unlikely to push as far west, as the wind will be N/E. But then again that was the thinking last night lol...
  12. Yes definitely very poor. The presenters don't seem very knowledgeable either. You end up being more confused than ever about what the weather will be. But surely they are using the same data as the main BBC weather presenters? I've always like Radio 5 live weather during the morning just before the half hour. It's always a BBC weather presenter, but they use up to date information regarding where the showers are at the moment etc. Much more informative
  13. ITV local weather says dry and sunny today. Surely that can't be right? Can't believe the difference in weather forecasts.
  14. I don't know tbh.But realistically most normal people don't like snow much due to the inconvenience of it. So the forecasters are presenting to them, as if snow is the enemy....I think an impartial view is better, and let people make up their own minds whether it's good or bad for them, instead of being patronising...the youtube clip of Ian Mcaskill during the extreme snow of 1991 played it just right, even though as he said it the weather was "grim", as it was really. ITV weather is not too bad. More impartial than BBC.
  15. Croydon and other parts of SW London are doing really well out of this train of showers. One after the other hitting the same spot. As I mentioned last night that Oxford were in a sweet spot. 7cm according to Carol K. The BBC said yesterday lunchtime that there would be nothing disruptive. Got it wrong again
  16. Sorry to be a party pooper, but tomorrow's snow has been downgraded now to rain and sleet by Carol Kirkwood. So the heavy showers forecasted don't look like happening. Temperatures look too high at 6c. But who knows?
  17. It looks like the group of showers near Lowestoft has intensified and got larger. Looks like it cold be heading for SE London/NW Kent? Snowing moderately in Dartford
  18. Is a streamer starting to be set up along the thames estuary? Precipitation has expanded quite markedly in the last 30mins and intensifying
  19. Oxford in a sweet spot. Another couple of hours of snow to go at least! I'm off to bed. Goodnight
  20. Yes, makes sense when you look at these...maybe we should all have thought of looking at these wind vectors (including the forecasters) instead of just going by the wind direction...
  21. Do the BBC look at these ppn predictions as well? If so, they must have gone for the NMM, who as you say were well wide of the mark. Euro4 very accurate.
  22. The main band is weakening now anyway. Nothing much coming off the North Sea now either. Maybe a wintry mix to look forward to tomorrow lol
  23. No good if you live in East London eastwards though. Very poor forecast from the Met Office/BBC. How can they get things so wrong with regards to the direction of the prep?
  24. What is it about the M4 corridor. Rain always to the south of it from a channel low
  25. But none of them arrows are pointing SW, which is the direction the precip is moving. So can't rely on these wind directions I wouldn't have thought
