  1. So glad I had a night off radar watching and got a good night's sleep....Good Morning Britain are really hyping up the cold weather because of this met office weather warning. So over the top. They have reporters dotted over the country...the one in Beverley where they have 3cm of snow said it's the "beast from the East" that's causing all the problems. How misinformed can they all be lol. And one of the lady reporters from Lancaster said "I'll show you how cold it is today" held up the thermometer "it showed 1c" laughable!

  2. Anyone else see the BBC weather following the news?  Matt Taylor paints a very gloomy picture for South East tonight. The main threat is ice.  No mention whatsover of precipitation. All showers appear to be up north. And even tomorrow, only isolated, and mostly rain or sleet. Tomorrow night might be better though, through to Thursday, but nothing out of the ordinary. Friday he mentioned it getting even colder as an Easterly sets in, but once again no mention of precipitation.

I think I'll have a night off radar watch.

  3. As much as I like snow, I can't help wondering why some folk are so obsessed with it, to the point where they spend hours on end watching the models/faxes/radar etc and post every time there is so much as a slight change in the offing ?

It's a genuine question. Given this is a weather forum, where do you folk disappear to when the seasons change ? Are you not interested in any other types of weather ?  It's like tumbleweed city in here for most of the year.

It's rather easy to get engrossed in the forum on a cold winters day/night. Not exactly outdoor weather is it?  No harm done

  4. Doesn't sound that promising. The local weather text is even worse.     This Evening and Tonight:

Remaining cold overnight, especially where any localised snow accumulations persist. Further sleet and snow showers are likely, mainly across eastern England and Scotland, leading to icy patches. Elsewhere, generally dry with a widespread frost, locally severe.

    Wednesday:

Cold with further isolated wintry showers in the east, snow across hills. Mainly dry elsewhere, with some sunny spells. Further rain, sleet and hill snow arrives in the northwest later.

    Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Brisk northeasterly winds with further wintry showers across some eastern parts Thursday. Otherwise dry and cold. Sunny periods Friday before turning less cold and rather cloudy from the north Saturday

Isolated wintry showers....there was a warning for heavy snow only yesterday for tomorrow with accumulations!

  6. The BBC 2240 local London forecast must go down as the worst short range TV forecast I have ever seen. Having seen the presenter say the odd place might see a "sleety mix", I gave in and went to bed. Imagine my surprise when I awoke this morning to 2cm and everything white – the Forest was Narnian this morning. So they didn't forecast the snow in this part of east London whatsoever, at just a few hours range.

Yes definitely very poor. The presenters don't seem very knowledgeable either. You end up being more confused than ever about what the weather will be. But surely they are using the same data as the main BBC weather presenters?  I've always like Radio 5 live weather during the morning just before the half hour. It's always a BBC weather presenter, but they use up to date information regarding where the showers are at the moment etc. Much more informative

  7. why are all the bbc forecasters snow haters, bring back rob mcalwee, him and alex deakin should cover all the winter weather

I don't know tbh.But realistically most normal people don't like snow much due to the inconvenience of it. So the forecasters are presenting to them, as if snow is the enemy....I think an impartial view is better, and let people make up their own minds whether it's good or bad for them, instead of being patronising...the youtube clip of Ian Mcaskill during the extreme snow of 1991 played it just right, even though as he said it the weather was "grim", as it was really.  ITV weather is not too bad. More impartial than BBC.
