2-3m on all surfaces here.
Up to 9ft 9inches of snow already?
-
Looking at the radar, I just can't see where the snow showers will be coming from for london eastwards. Everything is coming out of the Wash in a SSW direction. Unless the wind changes or showers develop further south in the North Sea, just can't see there being anything for this area at all?
Edit: on the latest 20:30 radar the Wash streamer seems to have ended and the showers are now entering at Norfolk on a more Southerly track, unless my eyes are decieving me?

WRF 12z. Has its thoughts. Differs from EURO4
Is the dark green in the far south east corner deeper snowfall please?

Local London weather says warning for snow on Wednesday with 2-5 cm possible. Matt Taylor on national weather says just rain and sleet. Who do you believe, and why the discrepancy in the two forecasts?
-
Just seen Matt Taylor on BBC news 24. Not looking that promising for Wed/Thurs. He said it won't be quite as cold on Wed so mainly rain, sleet and possibly a little snow here and there but no accumulations. Thursday the wind will be strengthening veering to the n/e making it feel very raw (but still 6c lol) but very few showers by then. So it looks like the threat on Thurs has now receded. Make the most of tonight I think.
So we get the n/e wind and it's dry lol. Never mind, just not meant to be this winter
-
Philip Avery on BBC News 24 seemed quite bullish that the snow showers would come well inland and cover all of East Anglia and South East. Nothing disruptive, but could be 1cm in places. Also continuing risk Tuesday and Wednesday as has already been stated on here
-
BUT South East local weather was a little more optimistic and used the term "snow flurries" for tonight. And the "possibility" of snow showers on Wednesday. They were "keeping a close eye on it"
-
Clear skies to start here, -3C
Euro 4 suggesting that it will be a mainly dry day away from north and east Norfolk. Showers will push south into the region tonight.
Lets hope for a little luck over the coming few days.
The weather by Carol Kirkwood didn't look to optimistic. The term "wintry showers" was back on the agenda and she said "rain" clearing South East tomorrow morning....also no mention whatsover of any precipitation on Wednesday. In fact no sign of the winds veering to the North East, it looked liked they would be more North West around South East.

I suppose there's still time for change again. But I never find Carol Kirkwood's weather forecasts very easy to understand tbh. Always quite vague. Maybe it's because it's so early and they haven't gathered all the information they need from the models?

The Countryfile weather was quite interesting. Nick Miller mentioned chances of snow from Monday evening onwards for SE England. More especially Tuesday night into Wed as the wind veers round to the N/E. He even mentioned the chance of heavy snow showers and disruptive snow for the SE England including London. No mention of a wintry mix. But the temps are 6c for most of the week, so surely marginal, or do you think these temps will be lower closer to the time?
-
If they call 6c very cold and feeling bitter, what will happen when and if we do get a proper Easterly with daytime temperatures of -2c. Will they add another "very" to the "very"?

You are of course quite correct in what you say. After all it is only 1st of February and it is only midday therefore you might
even max out at 6c which you would be hard pressed to call even rather cold even if the wind is a tad nippy.
Talk such as not living in Siberia etc is a tad unfair as we all know given the right synoptics from the north, or east etc it can be
very much colder than this.
The Met have been using terms such as deep cold etc which does not even gell with their definitions of what is rather cold,
cold, very cold etc and is typical of the way they over hype these type of events when we are having a generally mild winter.
Of course this is much better than anything we saw last winter but it still does not make it a decent cold spell or even close to
being one.
Another thing that gripes me is the weather summary at the start of the forecast. For the previous four days it's been "snow showers". If you were in a hurry and didn't both listening to the rest of the forecast, the average person who is not interested in meteorology and just wants to know what the weather will do for the day will go away thinking we are all going to get snow showers. But when you listen on, and the weather person gets to the nitty gritty of the forecast, it transpires that the "real" snow showers will be in Scotland the rest of the country will have a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow. Far too generalised.

Some showers are beginning to pep up a bit further West around Cambridge now. Could affect some parts of South East London/North West Kent perhaps? Whether they're snow or not is a different matter?
-
Just watched latest BBC news 24 weather. There was no mention by Stav whatsoever of snow showers (anywhere) Tuesday and Wednesday. Also temps of 6c. Doesn't correlate with the updated warnings, unless the forecast was pre-recorded from earlier?
-
Had enough or waiting around for nothing. Gonna give myself a rest and not come on the forum for a few days and just look at the BBC forecast a couple of times. More to life than snow.

The weather forecast not looking that encouraging for Monday and Tuesday. Despite suggestions that it would get colder next week, alas Darren Bett had temperatures of 6c both days and dry. He even said that it wouldn't feel as cold because of the lack of wind. Thaat feature on Tuesday looks like exiting into the North Sea before it reaches the South East, and only rain and sleet anyway according to Mr Bett.
-
Nick Miller earlier today mentioned a separate system that would would bring snow to central parts and the south overnight. But it hasn't been mentioned by any of the other weathermen since...this must be it. The way it's intensified over the last hour is very encouraging. This, then the other feature for 7am tomorrow. All to play for

The showers atm in Wales and West Midland are nearly all snow according the the radar? Also that band of snow in Edinburgh has expanded and intensified. That's what should reach us later tonight I suspect. But will it still be snow?

6c over the weekend and beginning of next week. Just not cold enough for meaningful snow.
-
What about the big blob coming out of Liverpool. Looks quite intense and heading for the London area by the looks of things? Tne same track as the current showers

I see a lot of METO and BBC bashing in the previous pages!
It's very easy to be a keyboard warrior and dislike any information given to you free of charge. Don't forget, the METO do this for YOU for FREE, and if you can do better on your PC or iphone than a supercomputer then you might have a reason to complain!
Personally for me the weather will do what it will do, no point in getting all frustrated over a forecast made on such a dynamic and rapidly evolving subject.

The meto data isn't free. It's paid for by taxpayers. And I pay my TV license too, so the BBC service isn't free either. And everyone is at liberty to express their opinion.

Always be wary of SE Moving Systems in a Polar Flow, expect the unexpected as sometimes things go better than planned.
This little system on the 4th March 1970 was supposed to deliver a dusting to London and the SE, What actually happened was 30cm of Snow!

Very interesting. Noticed it was 1c the following day according to the weather forecast at the bottom of the page. And it was March, not January, so the air was a lot colder, and later in the year.

Re the next batch of showers. Are they mainly snow does anyone know please?
-
Beeb really playing down the snow chance.
Yeah Tomasz Schafernacker on the local weather just said at best it will only be 1 cm, "so for all you people that like snow out there, don't get too excited". Sums it up really. Then rain showers tomorrow followed by primarily rain showers Saturday (with the odd flake of snow) and dry Sunday. Temps throughout 5-6c. What a fantastic cold spell

I agree. Are they in denial or something? The graphics they use these days are so abysmal. Splodges of white here and there, all in the wrong places lol
