  1. Obligatory reminder that Euro 4 snow depth charts fail to take into account thawing very well, so whilst that amount may fall it will not be anything like actual depth unless there's no thawing.
  2. I must be colour blind; that's showing 40-60cms in certain places? Euro4 tends to overblow precip unfortunately.
  3. Pretty sure the one off Merseyside has only appeared in the last ten minutes.
  4. Been on the forum since 2003 apparently, so definitely over the age of 10. Probably the best chance of decent snow in Ambleside for a while from the upcoming event anyway. As there is for much of our region. Tonight could start the suprises further south, but Cumbria looks in a good position tomorrow.
  5. You're probably looking at trying to get something from showers rather than the main low, but it should be cold enough for it to fall as snow even at your low altitude and give a cm or so maybe.
  6. First shower intensified and fell as snow as it hit IoM according to radar.
  7. Not beyond the realms of possibility for the Russian and Scandi sections to link up and then allow that allow that low to bowl through underneath them into Europe? Or as stated above for that Russian high to move west a few thousand miles (which would help us out). Not at all likely but not beyond the realms of possibility. But we're discussing an overblown FI low here so it's a bit moot.
  8. Damn shame tbh. Still time for an upgrade I feel like tracking this one down to T0 or it's disappearance (the latter more likely).
  9. The icon eventually pushes this in our direction at T180 but weakens it substantially and doesn't quite give it enough room to move.
  10. Can I just confirm we'd expect the next frame in this sequence to be that low displacing the high in the Atlantic and head towards the UK and Western Europe? Significant winter storm/blizzard? I know it's FI but the possibility is fun to consider.
  11. Just for a laugh, imagine this low displacing the high and tracking towards Europe. That could land in Southern France and still give us something to remember....
  12. That could be a pretty intense winter storm heading straight for Europe if the high would just wibble off out the way.
  13. Merely being optimistic. In all seriousness could a mod fix it 04/02/2019 thanks.
  14. You still think that whether they cancel the trains dependent on the weather after living here for three years It's northern you're talking about.....
  15. Your elevation probably helps. Some of those hills in Darwen would give Scottish highlands a run for money. Event I was referring to was over in the North East though, remember it well because I was completely convinced it wouldn't settle, went to bed and woke up a few hours later to a decent snowfall.
  16. Hope dies last. Hope is the last thing to go in these situations.
  17. It's a combination of ground temperature and intensity that governs whether snow will settle after rain (as well as how heavy the preceding rain was). Was an event many years ago I remember from t'other side of pennines where it rained the entire day (to the point of the road being covered in surface water) but the snow still settled as the temperature dropped overnight, think a layer of ice formed for it to settle on. Want to say it was late in 2013 but I don't keep records, so heck knows. We look okay for intensity and ground temperature tomorrow and there doesn't appear to be that sort of amount of preceding rain to worry about. MetO going with some snow showers tonight as well to get us in the mood.
  18. Yes, look at the key chart underneath the picture. Pink = snow and Blue = rain (this isn't the same for all charts so always look for keys in images posted )
  19. If it keeps correcting south we're back in the game for showers though!
  20. It really is a beautiful day. Looks a lot warmer than it is to be fair. If we got a week of cold, sunny days like this I'd be happy. But obviously snow would make it so much better.
  21. It's hard to notice with how often the sky is grey and filled with water up here. Yet as soon as it's snow that might fall, it disappears.
