  1. Actually its picking up in intensity again outside - not sure how long its progged to last but its beginning to accumulate
  2. Hi John HNY to you aswel. - didn't think the main Rds would be affected at the moment but Pontlottyn is pretty high up for sure. To be honest I'm quite happy with a bit of a dusting at the moment - don't want it stopping me getting to work but a big attack on Friday would be great if it happens but how many times have we built it up just to see it all snatched away at the 11th hour in the past?
  3. still snowing here (Penpedairheol, Rhymney Valley) a couple of mms perhaps- cars and the roads covered. Its not going to stop anyone going to work but its quite welcome
  4. Am I misreading this - wouldn't that be West and Northern Ireland in the firing line?
  5. One of the latest posts on the model threads - its pretty much what I'm building myself up for - just gotta hold the nerve before publishing to the rest of work and then becoming the local pariah as we sit in drizzle next Monday " I think the SE is going to do best out of this cold snap/spell with the north and west becoming dry and sunny for a while but with severe frosts and widespread ice days, snow showers look isolated apart from down the eastern side of the uk and mainly for east anglia and the southeast BUT by friday the west could be in the battlezone with heavy rain from the atlantic hitting the cold air and turning readily to snow, the angle of the attack will be crucial as to whether it's a swift snow to rain event or if the jet can be more southerly tracking, a slider low/undercut would then bring white out conditions to much of the uk, the like of which we haven't seen for years, potentially it's very exciting by fri/sat, relatively quiet but very cold until then after todays/tonights snow in the south and east apart from east coastal snow showers. 6. The end of the week could be the prize for Wales - model thread still in flux - last night they were talking about a return to mild very quickly after the weekend as the Atlantic surges in- as usual theres not cross model allignement this far out but mid week we should know a little more. Fingers crossed.
  7. Very fine now but the cars and pavements are all covered for the time being. It's not snowmageddon but it's a start, hopefully things will get interesting as we move through to next weekend.
  8. . Let's get work out of the way and we can enjoy it without the stress from Friday, works for me.
  9. Snowing just down the Rd from JK in Pernpedairhol aswel - how good was the forecast that said between 7 and 12 tonight though - 5 minutes past seven and here it comes. The forecasting model thread is so active at the moment aswel - still not sure if its snowmaggeden or just icing next weekend. Even the BBC is showing snow for Wales Friday and some bitingly clear nights mid week.
  10. 4.1C in the Rhymney Valley at the moment - drizzle outside but like Andy I've got my snow shovel aswel - half price in Asda which is still expensive if it sits in the shed doing nothing for 2 years. This really is a roller coaster of a ride. Got a stargazing night out on the top of Blaenavon tonight - whats the chances?
  11. My temperature guage for the whole period Midnight on the 4th Jan to Midnight on the 5th (last night) showed only about a 1 degree difference between 10 and 11 degrees for the whole 24 hour period. Not exactly traditional winter weather.
  12. Well happy Christmas to all - it might not be white but its easy to get around now at least- hopefully the New Year will bring us a change.
  13. Well first snow of the winter for me in the early hours of the morning, unfortunately turned back into driving rain, but it's a start.
  14. -3 degrees when I left for work this morning with a hazy moon in the sky - no snow in my part of the Valleys as yet - I'm pretty optimistic so far though after last years non event.
  15. Thanks Andy appreciate the work you put into this and your enthusiasm Got stuck in a traffic jam coming to work this morning outside Machen - fire engines, ambulances and police everywhere - theres a part of that road that seems constantly covered in water - hope the ice in the dark this morning hasn't hurt any one too badly.
  16. I now know what Andy does when he's not on the web or musically performing :0)
  17. Hi John - no doubt you'll get your snow half an inch thicker and an hour earlier than we will lower down the valley as always. Its just the way on these forums I feel, everyones expectation raised then dashed at the last minute - I'm wondering whether there should be a section for Sinoptics max 72 hours out - takes away a lot of the fun I know lol
  18. Hi all - another winter surfer here - Andy good to see you keeping up all the good work and look forward to the reports from the Graigerhorn as usual. A snow event this early in the winter , though exciting enough on its own as an event, would surely just be a messy interlude at this time of the year as the ground temperatures will have to drop significantly from where they are at the moment for a prolonged period of time to enable any accumulations? Steve
  19. First ice on the roof of the car this Autumn - beautiful clear morning could see Venus and Jupiter in the morning sky - though the temperature at 6am was only 4C.
  20. was on top of the Eppynt in Brecon on Sat Night - snowed lighlty a few times on and off - which was amazing as there were very few clouds- temp on the car said 1.5 degrees but there was a fierce wind God knows what the wind chill was- we weren't there for long I can tell you Both my daughters went to Cardiff Uni =- one is still there for the next two to three years- both love it.
  21. From what I can see of it the only difference between summer and winter in Wales is the rain is warmer in the summer.
  22. Just starting with some light drizzle in Newport
  23. Anyone notice it was -2.5 this morning (when I stepped outside the house at 6am today) but no frost whatsoever on the car Bone dry here in the Rhymney Valley
  24. The way this winter has gone if I was a betting man I'd go with the Meto forecast above- refuse to get excited about this once again (but taking laptop home from work just in case)
